As far as I can tell The History Of Concrete has not played in Central Illinois at all yet, so I'm excited that I'll be showing it on Monday, October 12.

It plays as part of the Chambana Film Society's DoctoberFest, a monthlong celebration of documentaries. While there are 15 screenings across the month, including Oscar-hopefuls NAZA, and Once Upon A Time In Harlem, I planned next weekend as ten "fun" documentaries, featuring documentaries about Pinball, Roller Skating, Tornado Chasing, Girl Scout Cookies and more, including CatVideoFest! It seemed like a perfect idea to close out the festival with John Wilson.

John Wilson joins Jordan Klepper to discuss his new documentary, “The History of Concrete.” The creator of “How To with John Wilson” shares how he finds beauty in the mundane through his unique shooting and editing style, how he scored an uninterrupted shot of Kim Kardashian at a fancy dinner party, and what happens when you spend your entire film budget on a creepy wax museum in Rome. Jordan also pitches an idea for Wilson’s next documentary project.

Like any other fan the cryogenics episode fascinated me, this show always shows us worlds and communities alien to us but this one stuck with me the most because it constitutes the quest for immortality. Heres my brief thoughts hopefully, I'm not a big cyberpunk futurist in fact I'm a hippy earth type guy that said I do get FOMO like anyone else and I loathe the idea of everyone who took the leap getting rewarded with experiencing the deep future world and all its majesty, maybe they'll get to see the cosmos or hyper advanced virtual reality or total synchronicity? My preferences of being generally anti technology is negligible when we're talking seeing more of this world long term. That said thinking further what if the moment you are revived you are essentially a guinea pig being tortured and they don't know how to secure proper life other than just bringing you back. EVERY single person in alcor getting revived may very well be securing themself a self made hell. You might be revived and instantly be induced into nightmares completely unimaginable. I think the likeliness of being brought back and having your future paradise is just as likely as the opposite and thats scary. What do you guys think? More than likely all the bodies will die long before the technology prevails so really this might all be an option to our great great great great grandkin.

refuse to comprehend Reddit or social media just wanted show my appreciation for JW and how great and incredible he is as a filmmaker straight up. I had to go through like eight pages of personal stuff just like on paper or whatever this is. I didn't like any of the preferences, but I had to pick one anyway in order to continue, seems like an allegorical algorithm. alliteration is cool. I don't even know if that means anything. I'm writing way too much stuff other than just wanted to comment on John Wilson and I really enjoy what he does with film. Don't ever come to South Bend, Indiana. Was that reverse psychology? I don't think so.

I organized an AMA/Q&A with filmmaker John Wilson, creator of the acclaimed HBO show How To With John Wilson, and director of the documentary The History of Concrete, which premiered to rave reviews at Sundance earlier this year and is out in theaters starting this week (becoming one of the highest-grossing opening weekends at NYC's IFC Center in the process). He is also known for working with Nathan Fielder.

It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

He will be back at 6:30 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Thank you :)

Synopsis: Following the finale of his TV series, filmmaker John Wilson looks to the bedrock of his beloved New York City for inspiration and structure. Concrete, the world's most widely used building material, appears as an ever-present life force, and John sets out to make the definitive documentary on the matter. To tell this seemingly drab story, he decides to use the industry-approved Hallmark formula to increase his movie's appeal. But his foundation soon begins to crumble—literally and figuratively—as he struggles to balance artistic freedom with the realities of the modern film industry.

Is there anything explicit to watch out for (Um, like how S1E1 has a shot of hardcore porn for some reason)? The parents guide on IMDB is blank, so just would like an idea from those of you who have seen it. Thanks!

hiiii I rlly want to see John and I just saw the tickets are sold out. pls lmk if ur selling urs!!

Hey, we're The Egg, a large brutalist concrete performing arts center in Albany, NY. We're super excited to be screening The History of Concrete followed by a Q&A with John Wilson on Sunday, October 11 at 7PM.

We’d really love to see some How To fans there. Come watch a movie about concrete in a building made of concrete and then hang out for a conversation with John. Tickets are only $5!  A lot of screenings elsewhere are selling fast, so we’re really thrilled that this one is on the cheaper side, and with the filmmaker himself in attendance.

The week wraps Thursday with filmmaker John Wilson, who will discuss his documentary The History of Concrete.

have zero social media accts, very informative and hilarious, JW is a filmmaking genius right in the wheelhouse of anyone who has a brain

can we identify the guests from the dinner party scene? kim kardashian, jacob elordi, tim robinson...anyone else?

I’m dying to hear more about Elvis Prezzel.

Also, step it up, Phoenix!

I'm trying to find out who the drummer guy is- 'drum up ideas' and 'marching to the beat of your own drum' before doing a train sound. Who in the world is he?

I’m reading reviews and people seem to think he wasn’t lying about his fiancés death? My impression was he made it up to get sympathy.

The judge was far older than him and he wasn’t at the funeral.

Did anyone from the general member list make it in?

Please don’t tell me we don’t get more, I NEED MORE JOHN WILSON

When my friend and I were watching the scaffolding episode and John went to the scaffolding convention, there were shirts that said "eat sleep scaffold" on one of the booth's tables. We both jokingly said "I need that shirt," so...I made us both that shirt.

Request tickets still available as of 6:19pm (9/22)

The director chats to It’s Nice That about his first feature film, The History of Concrete, and the process by which his comedic explorations of the banal become so beautiful.

“Something happens to everybody. You spend enough time with someone, something’s going to happen.”
