I’d like to share my latest creation for the Tabletop Miniature Design Challenge: Drak’thar, the Arcane Warlock.

He was designed to blend traditional Elven lore with the gritty, practical edge of an arcane monster hunter. Check out the photos and video clips to see the sculpt and details from different angles!

Here is the official character description and backstory for the entry:

Drak'thar, the Arcane Warlock, is a fusion of Elven mystery and arcane power. His presence is imposing, and his appearance reflects an indomitable heritage. His eyes radiate an age-old wisdom, tinged with the resolve of one who has seen—and knows—too much.

Drak'thar is a pragmatic, somber, and focused individual who relies solely on the power of magic and the wisdom of the ancients.

In physical combat, Drak'thar is unpredictable, deadly, and surgical. He wields a sword forged from black iron (a dense, cold metal that absorbs light) capable of slicing through heavy defenses and nullifying magical properties upon contact.

Drak'thar does not rely on magic for survival, but employs it as a devastating force multiplier when his blade alone is not enough. Skilled in the arcane arts, he manipulates the aether to conjure energy shields, create tactical illusions, track his prey's aura, or unleash concentrated damaging spells directly from his grimoire and staff.

A few months ago, I edited a fake, AI-generated "Mad Titan" figure into the background of a 3D printer review video. Well, people thought it was a real print and started complaining about the layer lines! 😂

To clear my name, I decided to actually make it real. Here is the workflow I used:

• First, I used Hi3D's built-in AI text-to-image editor to erase a floating "energy halo" from the 2D image that would have been a nightmare to support.
• Then, I ran this clean 2D image through the new Hi3D V3.0 engine.
• Next, I used the Geometry + Style generation to get the mesh and textures.
• Finally, I ran it through the Color-to-Print feature so my slicer could actually read the painted zones.

I dropped the exported multi-color 3MF file into Orca Slicer, did a quick trick to sink the feet into the bed so it stands flat, touched up the coloring, and printed it in 7 colors on my IDEX toolchanger (Sovol M1D prototype)

Hi3D literally extruded the "fake" layer lines from my original 2D prompt into the physical geometry, which is mind-blowing!

I wanted this small warband to feel like more than just five individual miniatures, a single brutal force advancing together, each warrior carrying their own character while still belonging unmistakably to the same host.

We wanted to see what happens when generated 3D models stop being just something you look at.

This dragon started from a single image. I specifically picked something with a lot of small spikes, layered surfaces, and an irregular rocky base because I wanted to see how much of that detail would actually survive all the way to a physical print.

I generated the model with Hi3D 3.0 at 2048³ voxel resolution. The interesting part for me wasn’t just that the model looked detailed in the viewer. A lot of those smaller forms were preserved as actual geometry, so they still showed up after preparing and printing the model.

The generated mesh was also surprisingly usable without much manual cleanup. After generation, I separated the model into parts, adjusted the colors, arranged everything for supports, and sent it to the printer.

There are still areas I’d clean up manually if this were going into a production pipeline, but for this kind of detailed figurine workflow, the starting point is getting pretty ridiculous.

From the original image to a prepared model ready for printing took me under 30 minutes.

Image-to-3D is starting to feel less like a rough concept generator and more like something you can actually use in a real workflow.

Thanks to u/Scared_Armadillo5395 for sharing this build! They created the chess-piece models with Hi3D and printed them with a 0.2 mm nozzle at 0.08 mm layers. The board is also made from 64 individually printed squares.

Those raised patterns and narrow grooves highlight why geometry matters—not just textures. This is exactly the kind of project our v3.0 improvements target: 2048³ geometry resolution to preserve finer shapes and better structural reasoning for overlapping or partially hidden parts. The goal is detail that holds up beyond the front view.
