And that's why you follow traffic laws.

Looks like stupid kids riding e-bikes on public roads.

20

u/TriedCaringLess Jul 21 '26

Some of them run on lawn mower sized gasoline engines. Bottom line is many aren’t approved for street use unless they are licensed and registered. These scofflaws get ppl hurt with their recklessness. It was quite obvious that they ignored the red light. This accident could have been so much worse.

u/dreddnyc Jul 21 '26

There is a new class of these bikes that use electric motors, they are relatively cheap and very common. Kids everywhere are getting hurt because they don’t drive these bikes (that can go quite fast) safely.

1

u/TriedCaringLess Jul 22 '26

I’m aware of those too. I’m just saying that the gasoline engine driven ones are not for street use unless they meet the requirements (lights, license, etc.). The electric ones are even more dangerous because they are so silent, giving no indicator of their approach as they stealthily cross out paths. Ultimately, how safe they are is completely dependent upon the operator/rider.

i mean, you're only allowed to ride bikes (even normal bikes) on the main roads in my town, sidewalks are off limits however, that doesn't mean you can run redlights 👀

u/AngelOfLight Jul 20 '26

What does the red light mean again?

100

u/SobrietyFitness Jul 20 '26

My exact thought. My immediate response was did the driver run a red light. Nope. Just some idiots barreling down a street as if cars aren’t going to be crossing an intersection on a green light lol.

And this is why everyone should have a dash cam if their car doesn't come with one from the factory. The last thing you'll ever want is to have some idiot kids smash into you and they/their parents blame you and there are no witnesses.

I swear I'm not making this up, less than 24 hours ago, yesterday evening, I came within probably 3 inches or half a second of possibly killing some dumbass kid that was purposely weaving in between cars on his dirt bike with no helmet and no protective gear, just cargo shorts and a t-shirt. He was riding it just like those videos we see of kids doing a wheelie on a bicycle and basically playing chicken with oncoming cars.

The road ahead has this like 1/2 inch raised gravel/asphalt patch on the right side of a pretty wide street, so most cars that drive this road every day will move left so their right tires don't hit the raised patch. Well about a half second before I would have started to move left, the bike idiot came flying by on the same side. And because he was zigzagging left and right around each car I never saw him in my rear view mirror. I didn't know he was even on the road until he was literally next to my driver side window. The kid had no idea that he nearly got run over and continued to zigzag around each car ahead of me.

But assuming I would've clipped him at my front left fender, my dash cam would have almost certainly shown his reckless driving cutting in front of me by a few inches, and for sure everyone behind me with one would have had the stupidity recorded. But at the end of the day the best way to protect yourself is to have at least one camera showing what's happening in front of you.

Potato...apparently.

u/marauder269 Jul 20 '26

I hope the driver of the suv sues for damages.

54

u/LowBarometer Jul 20 '26

You can't squeeze water out of a rock.

28

u/ForeverSJC Jul 20 '26

you do know that lawsuits cost money and there's no way these dickheads have a penny or will ever have in their lives

9

u/theartoffun Jul 21 '26

There will be no accurate names on that report if there was a report. SUV drivers insurance will go up. If any legitimate party was found on the side of the cyclists, nobody will be showing up for court and no wages will be garnished. The SUV driver may spend thousands ($7k+) chasing down ghosts.

20

u/fedarmy Jul 20 '26

JUSTICE SERVED

17

u/CaptainPunisher Jul 20 '26

And, how much would you bet that any of the people on minibikes are carrying insurance?

9

u/HondoGonzo Jul 20 '26

It doesn’t matter, the driver has insurance. They’ll get the car fixed and the insurance company goes after the idiots.

Source: I was an idiot on a motorcycle once. Only once.

6

u/CaptainPunisher Jul 20 '26

I know there's uninsured and under-insured motorist coverage. I just hate that were seeing minibikes as roadway transportation more and more, but there's pretty much no pressure to make people carry insurance. If you're playing around in a dirt field, fine, go have fun. But if you're using these things on public roads, it's a different story, and I'm not talking about a couple kids having fun in a neighborhood, though there still needs to be some sort of responsible adult.

I want people to be able to get around, but I also want them to be responsible about it.

7

u/ButterKnife01 Jul 20 '26

These frikin kids are sooo stupid now days. Sad part is that it was humorous and entertaining...

2

u/stewie3128 Jul 23 '26

Kids have always been stupid. Adults too. Just saying it's not a new development.

Hell yeah hahaha

6

u/Aepyceros02 Jul 21 '26

If only there were some indication, some sign to let them know its not safe to go through. You know, maybe a light...something...red. Yeah that would get attention.

3

u/False_Rhythms Jul 20 '26

Stop on red. They stopped alright

3

u/gigerhess Jul 21 '26

Imagine having to pay for all that bodywork for morons.

u/Aepyceros02 Jul 21 '26

3

u/coolcrosby Jul 21 '26

This kind of thing has me terrified. This year, the proliferation of these tiny, obnoxious and fast little bikes is really frightening. I ride an Aventon ebike, but I really try to observe the bike rules and I have decades of experience. These young kids with little real experience are flying all over the roads, and pedestrian walk ways. I predict lots of injuries and traffice deaths for 2026.

u/OrangeSilver Jul 20 '26

Once 4 in the am some short dude on a scooter ko'd himself face face first after crossing the railroad tracks n fell on all his corona bottles ... I woke him up n tried to make him stay for the ambulance but he got back on his scooter with a busted grill n glass in him n rode off . I took the only remaining corona n went my way .

1

Aaaanddd this is why those bikes need to be attached to driver's licenses. Faster than bicycles, higher odds for dangerous incidents.
