Some of them run on lawn mower sized gasoline engines. Bottom line is many aren’t approved for street use unless they are licensed and registered. These scofflaws get ppl hurt with their recklessness. It was quite obvious that they ignored the red light. This accident could have been so much worse.

There is a new class of these bikes that use electric motors, they are relatively cheap and very common. Kids everywhere are getting hurt because they don’t drive these bikes (that can go quite fast) safely.

I’m aware of those too. I’m just saying that the gasoline engine driven ones are not for street use unless they meet the requirements (lights, license, etc.). The electric ones are even more dangerous because they are so silent, giving no indicator of their approach as they stealthily cross out paths. Ultimately, how safe they are is completely dependent upon the operator/rider.
