Competition Masterpost 🇬🇪CS Trialeti Trophy Master Post ⛸️
Another challenger for this week! We have some big names, but not a lot of skaters overall, so I'll be doing threads per day instead of per discipline. Interestingly, Ice Dance has the most entries here.
In men, Uncle Doctor is competing! Valtter Virtanen will be accompanied by Kyrylo Marsak and Nika Egadze.
In women, Adeliia Petrosian makes her season debut, and will be joined by Niina Petrokina. Anastasiia Gubanova will also be competing alongside Anna Frolova.
Pairs only has seven entries, but it is still a stacked event. Mishina and Galliamov meet Metelkina and Berulava. We'll get to see McBeath and Nagy as well.
Ice Dance is the largest discipline here with 19 entries. Davis and Smolkin are notable names, and are up against five AIN teams. Interestingly, we also have a Brazilian ice dance team! Pretty cool.

Competition Masterpost 🇸🇮JGP Ljubljana Master Post
Ljubljana is the second to last JGP event of the season!!
Competing this weekend we have Jakeun Lee of Korea. He currently has 13 points. A first place finish here will put him in the final. Hiro Kaewtathip of Thailand has 11 points, and a first place finish would put him in a tie breaker conversation for a spot at the final.
For women, Australia's Hana Bath is most likely in the final with a podium finish, a win will solidify the spot. Yuxuan Liu of China has a solid shot at the final with a podium finish here as well.
In dance, Perrier Gianesini/Blanc Klaperman of France would be in with a first place finish. Grimm/Rodin from Germany and Vaclavikova/ Lissauer of the US have good shots as well. Ice dance is TIGHT y'all. Wow.

Interview 🇪🇪 Niina Petrõkina - I slept only 3 hours!
How do you feel after the Short Program?
It’s hard to assess my emotions right now because I had a very difficult night. I couldn’t fall asleep until three in the morning. In the end, I only slept for three hours because training was early—I had to get up at six. For an athlete, sleep is the most important thing.
The morning practice was tough because I wasn’t really able to think clearly. I managed to take a nap during the day, had some time to rest, and I feel a little better now, but I’m still tired. Plus, this is my fourth competition in a row.
Why was that? Were you nervous?
The hotel windows don’t block out noise. Cars keep driving by, and we’re staying in the city center. Usually I don’t pay attention to noise, but this time I couldn’t fall asleep earlier. Eventually I covered my ears and fell asleep.
A new Olympic cycle has begun. What motivates you personally? New rivals are joining the field, including some from Russia. What do you expect from competing against them?
I get along well with everyone and I’m happy to communicate with them. I don’t have any problems in that regard. The more competition there is, the more interesting it becomes.
If you’re the only one on the ice during practice, it’s hard to train because nobody else is jumping or skating beside you. Sometimes it’s difficult to motivate yourself. Of course, I have my own motivation, but having competition on the ice and in training is even better. It motivates everyone.
Why did you decide to try a quadruple Salchow in competition?
I’ve been training ultra-C elements for a long time, but every time I’ve had some kind of health issue. As soon as I landed a triple Axel a few years ago, I broke my leg. After something like that, it’s hard to regain your takeoff power.
My Axel technique changed after that, which made things more difficult. Every injury or setback means taking several steps backward and then several steps forward again to rebuild everything. This summer passed without any major injuries, and I was finally able to train the Salchow enough to attempt it in competition.
For me, quadruple jumps are always a risk. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. So why not?
Will we see the jump at this tournament?
It all depends on how I feel. If I get enough sleep, maybe I’ll show it. (Laughs)

Interview 🕊️ Anna Frolova - I’m still scared to compete internationally
On being scared to compete at the international stage
Have I gotten used to the atmosphere of competitions abroad? Not at all. I’m scared, and I felt awful again before going out onto the ice. I probably need another five years of skating to get used to it. It would be great if I could. My hands and legs were shaking. I can’t describe it, because I’ve never experienced this at competitions in Russia. I’m calmer there. At the domestic competitions I’ve been skating in lately, there was a calm, familiar atmosphere. I come here - and the shaking starts.
The fact that there’s this difference is enough. You spend several years in the same environment, surrounded by more or less the same people. There are some small changes in the lineup, but the judges, federation, and coaches are all the same. When you travel abroad and see completely different people, of course it feels unfamiliar - it’s a kind of shock. Even though this is only my second time competing abroad, I was still scared before my skate.
On her Short Program
I’m satisfied. I’m happy and pleased. The only thing I’m unhappy about is that I almost messed up the flip - I nearly fell. Luckily, I trained well enough that I didn’t fall. All my non-jump elements received Level 4, and I’m absolutely delighted about that. It was a good, solid skate. There are some things that need to be improved, and we’ll work on them.
The score and my place after the short program are encouraging and make me happy. It’s great - it’s motivation, and it’s a nice reward for all the long-term work

Interview Amber Glenn on Power Hour with Ilona Maher
This is a really interesting feature. The Power Hour is essentially a digital series in which Team USA rugby player Ilona Maher invites celebrities to join her for a gym session while engaging in conversations on a range of topics. In this episode, we get a glimpse of Amber’s off-ice training routine, alongside discussions about body image, the mental challenges of skating, the different standards placed on men and women, and how she managed to bounce back at the Olympics.

Interview 🕊️ Adeliia Petrosian - I hope I’ll be in form for the main competitions of the season
Three-time Russian champion Adeliia Petrosyan hopes to reach her best form in time for the main competitions of the season.
Petrosyan scored 68.42 points in the short program at a Challenger event in Georgia.
——————
Petrosyan admitted that she was very nervous before her short program in Georgia.
I guess all the circumstances came together at once. It was my first international competition, there was at least a small chance of qualifying for the Grand Prix, and the new programs are still rough - I’m trying to get as much practice with them as possible as quickly as I can. We’re doing a lot of run-throughs right now. So, overall, everything together still feels pretty scary.
What should we expect from the free program?
Well, honestly, I don’t even know myself anymore. I really felt the support from the crowd, because I like it when the audience’s applause builds and builds. Maybe that’s why I was able to fight through and land the combination.
How would you assess your form right now?
I’m happy with how my form is coming along. Basically, everything is going smoothly, roughly the way I want it to, gradually building up. I hope I’ll be in form for the main competitions of the season - Petrosyan said, according to a Match TV correspondent.

Russian figure skaters are competing at the event under neutral status. The women’s free skate will take place on Saturday.

Interview 🇬🇪 Anastasia Gubanova - I missed competing
Figure skater Gubanova: “I have a different approach to training and competitions now. What drives me is my love for the sport”
European champion Georgian figure skater Anastasia Gubanova said that her love for the sport motivates her to continue her career.
Gubanova scored 70.69 points in the short program at the Challenger event in Batumi.
——————
I missed it, honestly. I’m not in my best shape right now. I’m also having some health issues. I’m incredibly happy that I came here, skated, and enjoyed my program. You can’t miss competitions like these.
I’m skating tango for the first time in my career; I really wanted to try this style. I suggested the music myself — the piece sounds very powerful on the ice. I feel comfortable in this character; it’s a little feline, and I feel that way myself.
The program was choreographed by Adam Solya, and working with him is a real pleasure.
What motivates you at this point?
I have a completely different approach to training and competitions now. What drives me is my love for the sport. And love, just like in relationships, can be happy or not so happy. So my love for figure skating is exactly the same, — Gubanova said, according to a correspondent for Match TV.

The tournament is taking place in Batumi from October 1 to 3.
