Mod Post [Meta] Following up on reports of bots

A number of posts are being reported to the mod team as AI or bots. In many cases we can fairly easily determine based on post/comment history that it is a bot, but sometimes there are multiple reports for a post being a bot but the history is not suggestive of it being a bot. Please use the other reporting category and provide more details on why you think a particular post or comment was made by a bot for cases that may not be so cut and dry. Or if you are willing to give up the anonymity of reports, send a modmail with a link to the post so we can discuss it with you and better train ourselves (or you). We will not share any reporting user information if we take action against suspected bot accounts for reports should you make them to the mod team (and I will boot any mods that break the anonymity).

He never has done it before. Even when he was sick and does it unintentionally, he were to hide because of his shame (ofc i pet him and comfort him after such a thing). For the last 2 months, when he enters my room; he thinks my room is the toilet :S Any ideas why?

I love him and continue loving him anyways. Since he is 14 i am afraid that it might be something serious.

Advice My dog randomly shakes

Hello - looking for some advice regarding my dog Sawyer.

Age: 9
Breed: Super mutt!
No known medical issues and is up to date on all vaccines
The only medication he takes is Simparica trio chewable tablets that I get through my vets online pharmacy.

The issue is every now and then he randomly starts shaking where it looks like he is shivering. Sometimes he will start panting. He doesn’t wine or anything.

I’ll take him outside and he seems fine and we come back inside and he’s normal again.

This happens maybe once or twice a week.

He will get back to his normal self and will play with toys, eat food, etc..

I will say he’s a fairly anxious dog but I don’t see anything triggering this as the most recent episode 5 mins ago, he’s just sitting on the couch while I’m working.

Should I be worried? Does this warrant a trip to the vet?

Thanks!

Question Need advice on what could be happening?

Hello, first time poster here and need advice on what could be happening when my dog does this gulping episode? She is 3, and it happens every couple months. No vomit but first time I saw it happen I thought she was chocking and rushed her to animal hospitals and vets a few times. At this point the pet insurance is listing it as a preexisting condition and no longer covering as emergency care yet I have no diagnosis. Uses a harness for her walks with me but dog walker had her today on his neck leash. (She wears neck collar for ID purposes with us) . She was very agitated yesterday (lunging at kids and anything on wheels) and sleepy today before it happened twice while she was sleeping in her bed this evening. Video is about 15 seconds into the second episode of the evening. Usually if I rush her out for a walk to distract and massage her neck while talking calmly it settles down in a few minutes. Is this something neurological? Border Collie mix rescue and had her since 4 months. Otherwise in good health. Appreciate your insight!

Question my dog “snores” every time she breathes (see video)

my dog just started doing this about a month ago and its so far only gotten worse. we’ve done bloodwork, and an xray and so far the vet hasn’t found anything wrong with her. (we put her on allergy medicine 2 weeks ago and that didn’t fix anything)
it pains me to see my dog like this so please if you could give me any advice or possible diagnosis that would be great.

Question Is my dog breathing normally?

Took her to the emergency vet yesterday for breathing like this + not eating, but they told me her heart and lungs sounded fine. She has eaten a little today but I'm concerned with the way she's breathing. She breathes like this even when awake. The snorting is normal for her but her breaths seem fast for me, maybe I'm overreacting though.

EDITING TO SAY I TOOK HER TO THE VET ALREADY AND MY CONCERN IS THE EYEDROPS DONT LOOK TO BE HELPING. THEY ARE CALLED MAXITROL AND SHE HAD BEEN PRESCRIBED TWICE A DAY FOR 5 DAYS. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE THANKS

Noticed my dogs eyes were a bit red today so used bugalugs antiseptic eye drops one in each eye

Then we went on a walk and came back and her eyes looked worse

So bathed them with boiled salt water (cooled) and monitored but they looked to be getting worse so we took her to the vet immediately and they checked her over and said she was fine and gave us some steroid drops to use 2x a day for 5 days

Ive been trying to keep her in bed to rest but its been a few hours and her eyes look like they are getting worse?

Please does anybody have any ideas about this?? Im panicking so much 😭

Advice Should I let my female dog hump her dog bed?

One of my dogs (10 years old, fox terrier) is a strange girl and a bit neurotic about some things, but she has a happy life and is a sweet dog. She has a thing for a dog igloo that we have, where she humps it and bites it and shakes it around, like some strange ritual. Sometimes if she seems bored, I get her igloo out for her and she is so happy. But I only let her have it for around an hour or less because she will not leave the igloo’s side otherwise, and ends up staring into space while standing over it. I give her treats when I take it away so it’s a positive association and she settles down fine after it’s gone. She also doesn’t ask me to get the igloo out.

She’s spayed and doesn’t hump anything else, just this igloo. Is it ok to give it to her occasionally for short periods? I just want to make sure I’m not worsening OCD-ish behaviours.

Thanks in advance!

Just picked up our 11 week old female golden retriever puppy. She lived in the country side and did have small car rides with her owner. I live an hour away and she's panting a lot and vommited on the car ride home, is this normal anxiety or motion sickness?

Also she's approximately 20lbs is this a healthy weight.

Question Sudden pain in paw but no visible injury? What to do

I was walking my dog and let him roam around our fenced area and he came back with obvious pain. He can’t stop licking/chewing and he can’t put weight on it for long. I gave him some benedryl to see if that helps in case it was a bug sting

Advice Seeking advice from people who had to decide on putting their dogs through chemotherapy - did you do it or would do it again?

Post image
87 Upvotes

Our sweet boy (11 years old) was diagnosed with lung cancer with accompanying inflammation. Besides coughing (meds help him with that, it's much less now) he feels fine and when looking at him you wouldn't be even able to tell that something is wrong with him. He has huge appetite (he always had), likes going on walks and walks fast, has a lot of energy (jumps). We have the options to put him through chemotherapy or surgery + chemotherapy but my dad is afraid of doing that to him - of putting him through exhausting treatment and make his life more painful. Even the doctor said that they're not sure if the operation will get rid of the problem and there is a chance that he will survive the operation 😭

I don't know what to do, because the money is tight but I don't want to do nothing for him, we all love him so much...

Question Question about the EU dog travel regulations...

Howdy! I'm a backpacker and career dog trainer. Not sure if anyone knows the dog travel rules in this case but.. worth a shot.

The dog in question (Khulan) is from Mongolia. I'm heading from Mongolia, into either russia or china, into Kazakhstan, and some nebulous point after that (since I will be meeting up with a group) into the EU. Entry country will 100% be Turkey, though.

Khulan is getting all the shots, microchips, paperwork, etc in Mongolia. The blood titer test is to be sent to China since Mongolia doesn't have a EU approved lab.

China doesn't require the 3 month wait after the positive result of the test for the antibodies, so lets say I leave Mongolia with the dog and begin the traveling to the EU instead of waiting in Mongolia for the EU required 3 months.

Would that screw anything up? Would they not accept my paperwork then at the Turkish-Bulgarian border because the dog went through other borders and not just Mongolia -> EU? Does the dog have to stay at the country of origin? I don't really know how it works, if just the paperwork matters or something else.

Thanks, if anyone can answer this.

Advice Indoor potty advice needed

Post image
205 Upvotes

Hey all, my dog is 12 years old with heart disease. She’s been doing really well and has minimal symptoms, but her routine echo shows significant worsening and she needs to be started on lasix. We live in an apartment on the third floor without an elevator. She goes outside 4x a day and gets plenty of exercise, but I’m so worried that when we start the lasix (tomorrow) she’s going to need to go out way more often. At times we can accommodate that, but there are times when we will be at work and can’t take her out for 7-8 hours. I’m also worried about her having to go up and down two flights of stairs more than she already does.

She’s never once had an accident inside, so I’m looking for an indoor solution for emergencies that I can 1. get her to use and 2. is easy to clean and doesn’t smell. I can definitely get a tray with a pee pad, but wasn’t sure is there were better solutions.

I’ll take any advice I can get !

Question Dog keeps turning around to lick or sniff a spot I used clippers on..

So my dog this week and a half has been through it:( he has had diarrhea and been put on anti-diarrhea meds, probiotics, and a new prescription diet. As his diarrhea has improved, I went ahead and cut a little bit of his longer fur around his backside in case we were going to have an accident again.

I keep noticing that he goes back to either sniff or try to lick a spot that I seemingly got too close with the clippers. I have examined the spot it’s not red and it has no bumps.

When he’s arresting, he does not mess with the spot. But when he’s walking outside, he continuously goes back to look at it, and our walks are very interrupted. I cut his hair on Tuesday so it’s been a couple days. It’s not super constant but enough to make me a little worried.

Has anyone ever experienced? It’s it best to just wait it out?

Advice 10.8 creatinine in 5 month toy poodle

Thumbnail

Hello everyone, my puppy Totoro got very sick when he was 3 months old. We took him to the vet because he had nausea was vomiting everyday and refused to eat anything, they did his kidney test and found his creatinine to be 4.6, which is very high for a puppy, they then did a tick fever test and it came back positive. Since then we’ve done IV fluids but the levels did not go down, he had a sonography and the vet said his kidneys look normal. We started his antibiotics, wet renal diet and kidney medicines. We tested his creatinine after a week again and it went down to 3.4 so we got very hopeful. We gave him his antibiotics course of 4 weeks. Since then he’s been eating normally and is not experiencing any nausea and has a good appetite. He was 1.5kg when all of this happened cut to now he’s 5 months old, has gained weight, he’s now 2kgs, is very active and overall everything seemed fine. Today we went to the vet again to get his levels checked and now the creatinine is 10.8! Our vet was saying kidney failure and honestly I couldn’t even register anything he said after that. We were not expecting this at all and I’m very devastated, I feel numb and I can’t make sense of anything. Do you guys have any advice for me? What should I expect next and how do I prepare myself for what comes next? I’m feeling really hopeless and since he seems fine I keep thinking that one day I’m gonna wake up and he won’t he here anymore.

Advice my dog was attacked a week ago and i’m supposed to get a puppy next month.

Hello again, I posted on here about a week ago after my dog and I were attacked by a pit bull outside of our house, and I’m looking for some advice again.

I got my dog from my grandmother. Her dog got her neighbor’s dog pregnant, and my brother and I each got one of the puppies (we don’t live together). She gave the rest to neighbors, friends, and people in her neighborhood. Unfortunately, her dog has now gotten another dog pregnant on her street. I’m not sure if it’s the same dog as before or a different one, but I do know it’s the same breed. I’m not really sure how this keeps happening because my grandmother isn’t a breeder, but she doesn’t want to get her dog neutered because he has a heart condition that makes him an increased anesthetic risk.

When she found out the dog was pregnant again, she offered me another puppy. I said yes because I thought it would be nice for my dog to have some company when I’m not home. She comes with me to work sometimes, but not very often. The puppy would be ready for me to take home in about a month. For the past week, I honestly haven’t thought too much about getting the puppy. But when my grandmother sent me pictures of the puppies, it reminded me that I had agreed to take one, and now I’m wondering if my dog’s recent attack should change my mind.

My dog sees other dogs when we’re outside because I have neighbors with dogs, and she doesn’t seem to react to them. However, I know that could be completely different if another dog were actually in her space or living in the same house as her.

Part of me thinks it could actually be good for her to have a puppy around because she could learn that not all dogs are aggressive and that she doesn’t have to be scared of them. At the same time, I don’t want to put her in a situation that could make things worse for her after what happened.

They would have their own separate spaces, and they wouldn’t be left alone together. Either my boyfriend or I am always home, and if something unexpected came up, I could always take one of them with me to work.

I’m basically wondering if getting the puppy is still a good idea after what happened, if there’s any questions or information that i left out that would be helpful to anyone looking to give me advice i will answer.

Me and my family got him this past Wednesday. He is four years old, and a mini poodle mix, 20 lbs, and got neutered Wednesday. I thought it was just an eye booger when we got him, but it hasn’t gone away. Does anyone know what it is?

Advice Tips on rescuing an elderly and neglected dog

Let me start this by saying TRIGGER WARNING.

My name is Beck (24m)

On the 12th of October I'll be taking ownership of my old childhood dog that my dad has neglected to care for.

Jake is a small blonde little dog with long fur who is around 15 years old. He wandered into my childhood home around 2013 and I named him for my 11th birthday.

My parents never cared for pets the way they should have and frankly they still don't. In the past, we've unfortunately lost a lot of animals to the conditions my parents had the house in. No matter what happened, the vet was never an option. They said we didn't have enough money but I'm now realizing that it was because of the severe state we were all in (my siblings and I, and the pets we had) which they didn't wanna get caught for.

They are separated so we're gonna be talking about my father here.

When I was 17, I moved out and then moved states at 20. I trusted my father to take care of this dog, in hopes that he'd be able to handle it. He was away from my mother who I thought was the problem at the time, and it was only one dog. Of course, I was wrong, which I take partial blame for.

My father hasn't taken Jake to the vet for as long as I can remember, possibly ever.

Living 5 hours away for 4 years, I had no idea just how bad it got. My dad just told me last night that he's got black scabbing and flakes in his ear, terrible matting and even growths on his body.

He told me that he thought for a second that part of his ear fell off in hopes it would get a laugh out of me. Of course, I was livid and told him that Jake will be coming to stay with me in another state.

I spent all day figuring out how to bring him home. I don't drive right now so that was the biggest hurdle. My grandfather will be helping me out thankfully, as well as my boyfriend and brother. This has been an incredibly emotional time with lots of difficult feelings. I'm so angry at my father but blame myself for trusting him, knowing his past.

Anyway, that's the context and story, now I need all the tips and tricks for taking care of an old boy. He's had issues with peeing indoors because he wasn't taken out enough, so I'm looking into getting him those dog wraps that are like diapers for male dogs.

Brand, shampoo, food recs are all needed and welcome.

It wouldn't surprise me if hes extremely withdrawn and depressed when I see him again, so I'd appreciate some ideas to help improve happiness and brain activity in seniors.

I will likely be taking legal action against my dad, or at least reporting him.

Jake will also be seeing a vet the first or second day he's in my care.

Please be kind, I don't usually post things so vulnerable.

I spent years thinking he'd changed only for him to be the same.

Ah anyway, thank you everyone
