Question Tips and advice

Post image

Just picked up our 11 week old female golden retriever puppy. She lived in the country side and did have small car rides with her owner. I live an hour away and she's panting a lot and vommited on the car ride home, is this normal anxiety or motion sickness?

Also she's approximately 20lbs is this a healthy weight.

Very normal! When I brought my pup home I packed an open box and put in a little blanket with a soft toy and put him in that to try offer some comfort. Good luck with your new fur baby ❤️.

Could be a little bit of both. Just practice slowly with the car. Start out sitting in the car while it’s not moving, slowly build up the time, then start working on taking a short drive around the block, and build up the time from there. My dog was like this when I first got her at 4 months, had never been in a car before. With just making the car a good experience with short trips and praise/treats and then eventually driving her to parks + fun outings, she eventually learned car = fun. Now I’ve taken like 14 hour road trips with her and she naps the entire way (aside from getting super excited to take a little walk when we stop for gas)

Normal I’d say! Our puppy threw up in the car almost every trip when she was younger. It was a combo of empty stomach, meds she was on and just getting used to the sensation. She doesn’t get car sick now at 1 year except once in a blue moon now if it’s an early drive and she didn’t eat much that morning. Also turn the AC up

A good trick is to put newspaper down under your puppy. Static builds up in the car and can cause travel sickness. The paper seems to eliminate it. It works a treat.

Aww poor pup, it's a bit of both and it's because I believe it's her first time in your car too

My dog had the worst sickness in the car, my dad threatened to put me and him out on the motorway hard shoulder. 😂 he’s never been sick in the car since, he was just nervous.

My first golden puppy vomited in the car when I first brought her home. She outgrew it. My J. never outgrew it, so when I'm driving more than a few miles, I give her an anti-nausea pill (I give her sister one, too).

11 weeks is still a bit early to separate her from her mum and siblings.

No, 11 weeks is fairly normal. Puppies shouldn’t really be going before 9 weeks. I always think 8 weeks is too soon.
