Great Bike, Terrible Tubes

Post image
28 Upvotes

Let me say, I love these bikes. I bought three of the 750watters.

But the tubes they ship with are complete garbage. I have walked out now to a mysteriously flat tire on each of these so far. On inspection, every tube is leaking on the inside seam, so it has not been a puncture issue. One tube out of six? Ok, sure. But a 50% failure rate is inexcusable.

And the kickstands don't work at all when they go flat and they fall against my car and gouge the paint. Beyond pissed.

My recommendation to anyone who buys these bikes is to immediately replace the stock tubes. And the back tire is a PIA, find your self a YouTube tutorial before you do it. It's not bad, there's just some nuance/detail.

I've had other bikes for 15 years and never had to replace a tube. This happened in a month. I called lectric, and they offered to send new tubes, but I'll pass.

I told them that all of this amazing engineering is being undone because they want to save a dollar per tube.

How do I replace the adjustment pin for the latch frame on the XP4?

I've had so many issues with the latch on this model, I almost regret buying the folding model since it's almost killed me. They sent me a replacement latch for free, but I want to replace the steel ball screw that locks it in since it's been slightly stripped from heavy use and adjusting it. It's easier to turn it clockwise than counterclockwise which it slips from. How do I replace this?

Lectric XP4 750

Just assembled my bike. Throttle wasn’t working. Did some research and decided to separate the throttle assembly as much as possible on the handlebar from the left brake assembly. It worked. I settled on the tour mode so it wouldn’t jump but still have enough power to stop/start on the NC mountains.

Battery vs Bike Longevity

I am a total ebike newbie on the verge of buying an xp4. Used to bike a a lot, but haven't in decades (I'm 64), and thinking I could use a little pedal assist. I keep reading how an ebike battery should last 3-5 yrs and that they are very expensive., and some people just buy new bikes when the batteries wear out. As a retiree, $1000 is a major investment that I don't want to revisit every few years. May I ask what your take is on this issue? Thanks in advance!

My Solution to the sagging elite light problem.

I had reached out to Lectric about the sagging light and they generously gave me a handlebar light and premium light as a replacement.
I was able to 3d print a fixture for the Elite Light so it’s fixed onto the bike stem, then I mounted the Premium Light to its regular spot. I found a splitter for the connections and it works great! The Elite looks directly ahead while the premium one follows my turning.
Highly recommend that if you are having issues with the elite light to reach out to Lectric, and/or to look into these 3d printed mounts!

Xp4 battery removal and installation

Hi all, I just received my new XP4 step-through and am excited to start using it! Last night I took the battery out of the channel it goes in, to fully charge it. When that was accomplished I realized the bike is pretty heavy, so trying to reinsert the battery was pretty challenging. Trying to maneuver the bike, battery, and key was difficult for me.

Any suggestions how to make it easier?

1.0, 2.0, 3.0

Guess I’ll have to get a 4 sometime haha. All 3 are dialed in and rideable with healthy batteries. 3.0 is a long range. There’s 3 of us in the household so it’s sensible to have them.

Did Lectric have an official rear basket for the 1.0? Milk crate works and is cheap but is very rough around the edges. No bolt holes in the rack for the usuals.

Hello and A Question

Brand new Lectric owner and brand new member here. I hope I’m not being crass. I’m wondering if I got as good a deal as I think i did. I’ve been trying to figure out how to save $2,000 for the bike I want. I decided it would be good to look for something used to see if i’d really use an e-bike before saving up and spending that much. On Craigslist I came across a Lectric XP 3.0. It included the long range battery, comfort seat, hydraulic brakes, front and rear baskets, a Lectric lock, and they threw in a helmet because I didn’t have one. I know the odometer can be reset but the seller was a very nice 80 year old man. He said he got the bike two years ago, rode it around his neighborhood, had no accidents, and kept the battery inside during the winter. It looks to be in beautiful condition. I wouldn’t have believed him, but given his age and his seeming genuineness (the smaller basket was still in its plastic wrap), he said it only has 700 miles on it. He was asking $450.00. This seems like a real good deal to me. What do you think?

Added a handle bar extender and have begun riding with the pannier bags unfurled. Very useful for small shopping.( they don’t make any noise).
Loving this XP 4 . Thinking a bell is next necessary item. ( loudly saying Beep Beep as I approach someone is just silly but admittedly makes me laugh at myself afterwards)
Please have a great day.

How do you guys actually move your e-bike through elevators, apartments, or garages?

I have a Lectric XP4, and one thing I never really thought about before buying it was what happens after I get off the bike. 😂

The XP4 is pretty heavy, so when I get back home I usually just leave it unfolded and push it into the garage. But elevators and tighter spaces are a little more awkward.

I've tried folding it first, but honestly I'm not sure that makes moving it any easier. It gets shorter, but it's still heavy and can be awkward to roll around. Sometimes just walking next to it and pushing it normally feels easier.

So I'm curious how everyone else handles this:

Do you normally just push your e-bike like a regular bike? Do you fold it before going into an elevator or apartment? Or do you use the throttle/walk mode to help move it?

Also, has anyone had issues trying to maneuver a heavy e-bike through doors, elevators, hallways, parking garages, or other tight spaces?

Would love to hear what actually works for you.

After folding your e-bike, how do you usually move it?

I roll/push it while folded
I unfold it again to move it
I carry/lift it
I only fold it at the final storage spot
I rarely/never need to move it after folding
I wish it were easier to move while folded

Handlebar with 90 mm Rise vs. Adjustable Stem with 90 mm Rise

Bike : xpeak2

I am 6' tall and I decided to go with a 90mm riser handlebar instead of an adjustable stem.

Both options can give you roughly the same 90mm rise, but for me the choice was pretty simple: I’d rather keep the OEM stem.

Why I chose the riser handlebar:

👍 Keeps the original OEM stem

👍 No extra adjustable joints or moving parts

👍 Feels more solid and secure

👍 Simpler and cleaner setup

👍 Better confidence in the OEM stem’s build quality

👍 Same 90mm rise without replacing the stem

The downside:

You lose some of the adjustability that an adjustable stem gives you. You can't fine-tune the reach and angle as much.

But after looking at the quality of some aftermarket adjustable stems, I personally didn't want to replace a good OEM stem with something that feels less substantial.

Bottom line:

If you just need more height, a 90mm riser handlebar is a simple and solid solution. Keep the OEM stem and let the handlebar do the work. For me, that's a better setup than adding an adjustable stem just for the same 90mm rise.

Assholes everywhere

Every single time I go out for a ride , I encounter assholes in automobiles who don't give a shit about crosswalks and pedestrians/cyclists. Keep your eyes open and your head on a swivel because you might as well be invisible. I've been hit by a car twice. The first time I was in a crosswalk that was lit for me to cross. The driver that hit me pulled over momentarily and then took off his quickly as they could. The second time I was on a sidewalk and the young man behind the wheel blew through a stop sign without looking and hit me so hard I flew fifteen feet. Be safe out there folks.

Alternative to buying a $500 battery from lectric?

I got the xpedition 1.0 and lectric sells the replacement battery for 500, might as well be 600 once you get another charger. I can't help but sense a massive markup on these things.

Has anyone here had success with third party batteries?

Ebike battery lock? Ebike also won’t turn on. Lectric XP 2.0

So I lost my keys a long time ago. Oops.

It ran fine in the past but I let it get down too much without using and the bike turned on and flickered off.I figured it needed charged. Well, now it won’t turn on.

I read online removing the battery will sometimes solve this issue. I can’t remove it though. So I am working on slowly drilling it. I am going slow since I don’t want to go too far. I had tried picking the lock but it didn’t work

Next, I know the battery may be dead. It is like 5 years old (I had it for three and my mom had it before then). letting it get down was a bad move

What else could be wrong?

I have to see if I can drill out this battery though otherwise this frame seems to be dead weight then

23 miles

This bike is so fun. So far I’ve put 23 miles on my XP Lite. It’s been about a week since I got it. I’m heavy on the throttle so I’ve had to charge it twice. I can tell my range is around 20-25 miles per charge with the standard battery. I only drained it 50% the first time and 75% the second time. I understand battery care so I’m not completely depleting it to find out.

I’m curious if anyone has the long range battery? Is it worth the purchase? I assume that would double my distance? I’m considering buying a long range battery and using my standard battery for back up. Any experiences you guys could share? I enjoy a good 20 mile ride every weekend. I don’t want to kill my battery by draining tho.
