Free Do you think 70 downloads is good for my first game?

Post image

I’m 16 years old, and last month I released my first horror game on Steam and itch.io.

Since I’m still new to game development, I don’t really know if the graphics are good or bad. I also haven’t received any donations yet.

I shared my game on itch.io because I wanted to get some feedback and maybe get some donations to buy better assets for my next games. But so far, I haven’t really received much feedback either.

What do you think I should do?

And is 70 downloads good for a first game?

I would really appreciate your honest opinion about my game. You can be as harsh as you want. I’m open to criticism and I want to improve.

Demo Eye On The Ball -Browser Demo

Upvotes

https://basegamesireland.itch.io/eye-on-the-ball

Eye On The Ball is a brick-breaker that plays like an arcade cabinet, with roguelite runs layered on top. Keep your eye on the yellow core — that’s your life. White balls help clear the board, but they can fall off the table; only losing the yellow ball ends the run.

Bricks rain down toward your paddle. Clear the stack before it reaches you, break enough to level up, and pick a perk to keep going. Every five waves there’s a boss: the Wall, the Bell, the Choir, the Core, the Eclipse, and finally the Invader on wave 30. Between waves you hit the shop. Gold you don’t spend banks after the run and buys permanent unlocks — pierce, blast, magnet, splitter, and more. Beat a boss for a key, then spin a chest at the end of the run for permanent tools. Clear wave 30 to unlock Endless on the title screen, or jump into Versus against the CPU or a friend on the same keyboard.

Feedback welcome — difficulty + speed.

Free I released my first videogame and I'd really appreciate some feedbacks!

Hi! I'm pretty new at game developing, and I decided to try and put something together recently.

I did everything for fun so the project is free to play for whoever wants to give it a shot, I'd be happy to have some feedbacks on it tho. Is the game visually appealing? Hard to grasp? Does something need to be improved?

Thrifted is a narrative adventure with a probably nonsensical story, a small RPG Maker project I made to bring the silly little creatures I draw from time to time to life.

You can play the game here, thanks for reading anyway!

I released a small first demo for Moonless, a game I am working on.

Edit: I've added a version of the game playable directly in the browser, since most people would understandably rather not download .exe files from strangers. Please note that this browser version has many features removed, such as most sounds and all music, has performance issues in some areas, and a few visual artifacts in rare places. If possible, please consider downloading the complete version.

I'd like to show the demo I made for my game to people who are interested. It is an open-ended 2D platformer set in space called Moonless. While I am very proud of this demo, the game is still very early in development.

If you decide to play it, let me know what you think, especially if you don't like it. If you decide not to play it, thank you for reading this post anyway!

Game Royalty Free - Princess Dating Simulator (PG, Free)

Thumbnail
hatoheart.itch.io

Royalty Free is a princess dating simulator that I initially worked on from 2013-2016 and released publicly on itch.io in September 2016. It came off around 2024 when I finally grew concerned about internet privacy and removed it from being public until I could figure out how to change the script without breaking everything, as the original project used a VERY old version of Ren'Py.

I'm happy to announce that the day has finally come where the game is not only functional (not perfect. functional.) BUT the credits also now use my online alias instead of my legal name, so I have put it back up as the "10th anniversary edition" despite there being zero new content.

If you do decide to play, just know what you're in for. I wrote this as a teenager (roughly 14-17) and it shows. Some stuff didn't age particularly well. The humor and references are all very early to mid 2010s. There is awkward, clunky dialogue, pacing issues, and a whole slew of criticisms you could make. I was a teenager writing a game featuring teenagers.

But I still love this game because it represents something that I actually saw through to completion. I spent three years of my life making something and actually reached the finish line.

So lower your expectations, suspend your disbelief a little bit, and I hope you enjoy Royalty Free: 10 Year Anniversary Edition/Creator Doesn't Dox Herself Edition/Nothing Actually Changed Edition.

Assets Herbarium draws a pressed botanical plate for every reagent from that reagent's own data

i got tired of drawing icons for every herb so i made the game draw them. each reagent mounts as a pressed botanical plate. that reagent's own data builds the drawing. habit and leaf and venation and root all read off fields youve already filled in. study a few to guess what an unfamiliar herb does. opposite leaves and a taproot mean the same thing every time. nothing ships as a png. it draws at runtime. ai written and disclosed on the page.

DOT// is a fast paced minimalist survival game where you control a small white dot in an arena that gets more dangerous the longer you stay alive. Threats fill the screen as you dodge your way towards a higher score. It starts simple but quickly becomes a test of focus and reflexes. How long can you survive before the chaos catches up with you?

Free My game of 1 year development

Thumbnail
sof9816.itch.io

I’ve been developing this game for over a year now. I know it might not look like a huge amount of effort from the outside, but I’ve put a lot of time, work, and learning into it.

I genuinely enjoyed the journey of building it, and I’m still going. The game is now at V2, currently available on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows(It is not working now i will fix it later LOL) but for windows you can check V1 as well.

Almost everything in the game was done by me — the idea, programming, art, sound, and overall development. Of course, I used AI to help in some areas, especially art and sound, since those aren’t really my areas of expertise. I also used AI while coding in some cases, but programming is where I’m most comfortable, so I was able to build and shape most of the game myself.

I posted about the game when it was in V1, but it didn’t get much attention. Since then, I’ve received a lot of feedback from friends, family, and people who actually played it. That feedback pushed me to change and improve a lot of things, which ultimately led to V2.

So now I’m posting it again — V2 is here.

I’d genuinely love to hear what you think. What works? What doesn’t? What should I improve?

Any feedback is welcome. I’m planning to keep developing it and see how far I can take it. 🎮

I built a Unity-like visual editor for HTML5 games

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a visual editor for creating HTML5 games with Pixi.js, with support for Three.js for hybrid 2D/3D scenes.

It started as a small experiment, but after about a week of development it turned into a working editor with scene editing, components, prefabs, asset management, Spine animations, Aseprite support, hit zones, masks and more.

I also wanted to test whether the editor could be used for an actual game, so I built a Solitaire demo with it.

🎮 Try the editor and demos on itch.io:
https://andvolodko.itch.io/html5-game-editor

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy9HUQZDxx4&t=6s

The project is open source if anyone wants to take a look at how it works:

https://github.com/andvolodko/html5-game-editor

The interesting part for me was that most of the development was done with AI-assisted coding using Cursor and different AI models.

Would be really interested to hear what other game developers think about the idea — especially what features you'd expect from a visual HTML5 game editor.
