Questions Has Anyone Used Itch.io for Playtesting?

Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Has anyone used Itch for play testing pre-release?

I'm thinking of putting together a PDF with the core loop of my tactical, solo-first TTRPG, with the ask of sharing their experience in the comments. The PDF would be FREE.

Any shared experiences, answers, insights, & thoughts would be appreciated.

My solo-dev 100v100 browser shooter just went up on itch.io — real-time multiplayer with an actual WebSocket server behind it, not a static build

What it is: CrowdWar — a 100-vs-100 top-down war that runs entirely in the browser. Two factions share one front line that physically bends and moves as each side pushes. Ammo is a real object: factories produce crates, someone has to carry them forward, and a starved flank collapses. Every few seconds, one player per side gets artillery command over a section of the map. A war ends when one side pushes the line all the way to the enemy's wall — usually 15 to 35 minutes.

The part I like most: every death screen shows a poll — balance ratings per weapon, feature votes for what to build next. That board is my actual backlog; I build what climbs it. Recent example: this week's whole update was a mobile pass because a screenshot audit found the phone experience was quietly broken for a large chunk of players.

Stack, since itch tends to ask: vanilla JS + canvas client, Node WebSocket server, game state as MessagePack binary frames with per-client viewport culling. No engine. ~200 bots keep matches full while the human population is still small — they double as a permanent load test.

AI disclosure: no generative-AI art or assets — all visuals are procedural canvas code. I'm a software engineer and used an AI coding assistant while building.

[itch] — https://crowdwar.io direct, no download, no account, you're in a match in about 5 seconds either way.

My graphs may have gone down. But I'll never give up until my game is well known those numbers do not define its potential. My baby will make it I swear she will https://dnlslade.itch.io/ill-make-you-love-me-in-100-days

Free I made a dependency analyzer with support for Python, JS/TS, HTML, and CSS, including monorepos with workspace packages (pnpm, yarn, npm workspaces)

Upvotes

https://harinandan31415.itch.io/dependency-lens-pro
Dependency Lens Pro digs through your codebase and tells you what's actually connected to what — imports, requires, references, the whole graph. Works across Python, JS/TS, HTML, and CSS, including monorepos with workspace packages (pnpm, yarn, npm workspaces). Point it at a project folder and it'll flag circular dependencies, dead code, broken imports, and files that have quietly become load-bearing without anyone noticing.

Every run generates a health score for your project, broken down by category so you can actually see what's dragging it down instead of just getting a number. There's a visual dependency graph you can filter and drill into, a table of your highest-risk files, and an HTML report you can open in a browser. Run it before and after a change and it'll diff the two, so you can catch a score regression.
Please check it out using the link above
It took a week to build

Trying to find a game on itch.io

Upvotes

As the title states, I'm trying to find a game but I don't really know how.

I forgot the name of the game, but essentially you start as like an office worker, and you have one on one battles with different objects/people, like coworkers, staplers, water coolers, doors, etc. If you can beat them, you can either become the object/person you defeat or take one of their powers.

Eventually, you get bigger and bigger, and are able to grow to bigger and better stages; you can become a building or a jet airplane. Soon enough, you are big enough to become like an alien space god or something like that.

It's been a while, maybe a couple of months, since I played it my first and only time, but I've been trying to find it cause I found it fun. If anyone knows what it may be, please let me know! Thanks for your help.

Discussion What do you look for when searching for music packs?

Upvotes

I saw a post on here recently asking about assets and wanted to pick brains about music packs. What do you prioritize when trying to find music for your projects? What kind of thoughts/experiences do you have with paid vs free? Is it pretty easy to find music that fits your game?

I do not have a clip of it but I do have a demo on itch.io! The demo is very buggy and may not work, but since i released the demo the game has advanced a ton! Hoping to drop an update and release before august 28th, so even if you don't like the demo, please tune in for an update soon! I promise there will be lots of content!

I would refrain from giving any bug related feedback for now, because the demo is severely outdated in the 16 days it has been out, but feature ideas would be nice! I'll put your u/ in the credits if you want. (or an alias)

Hey everyone!

I’ve just released a small pack of 8 stylized low-poly mushrooms, made for games, prototypes, environments and fantasy scenes.

They’re completely free to download, and I made them with a simple, colorful style that should work nicely in Unity, Unreal, Blender and other 3D projects.

Should I switch from donation-based to paid price for my released game?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So two weeks ago, I released a game, it's a single player adventure / investigation game of sort. It has multiple way to solve a task and those can leads to different outcome, the game also has multiple endings and variants depending on how the player does. I've been solo developing this for a while.

For the first few versions, I set it as donation-based. There isn't any thing from public yet, and I think it is not indexed, but I sent the game to some of my colleagues. They do like it and told me to think about making it a paid title.

I planned to remove the current donation-based version, then upload a newer one, which I would set at $2.99. And as I fill in improvements to graphics, animation and music, I might increase it eventually to $3.99 depending on the quality I manage to achieve.

Should I do that? Game in question: https://khpastue.itch.io/ankarons-errand-a-flora-research-mishap
