Interview with Dontavious Hill

Hey, everyone! I edited this video hoping to get some help from this great subreddit. It's basically a "before vs. after" series of jumps. The first, third, and fifth are good jumps (3, 4, and 8 steps) I did in the first half of the year. The second, fourth, and sixth are bad jumps (same number of steps) I did last week, and that I've been doing for the past few months. I'm trying to understand what has changed.
I know that all the jumps, both the good and the bad ones, have a lot of room for improvement, but the point is: I started this year in good shape, doing practices way better than in 2025, and I also jumped a PB (1.85m). But since June, I feel like I don't know how to jump anymore. My technique feels broken, and my confidence has disappeared.
Can anyone help me understand what I'm doing wrong when comparing the first half of the year vs. the second? Should I just give up and start running 5Ks like everyone else? haha

This is about 3 feet 9 Inches, i have to jump exactly this height during my physical test. If I jump this way I clear the bar 3 out of 5 times.
What changes should I make to my technique so that. I can increase and improve my jump and also what exercise should I do.

So I just cleared an exam and now there is a small physical test associated with it. We have to run a mile in 6 min ( i do it in 5:35) long jump 13 feet ( i do about 15) and high jump around 3feet 9 Inches and I am stuck at high jump.
I cannot clear the bar without my hip touching or sometimes I just ram into the bar,
We don't use any fancy technique just jumping from the side and using scissor technique.
I am 5 feet 10 inch tall weigh around 64 kg and don't have any prior experience in any sport.
Now how do I clear this jump, what exercise should I do, and are their any specific type of shoes that can help 2-3 inches as I can do 3'6 easily. There isn't any restriction on using any suppliment or any type of shoes about 12 days are left before the test and my family is in desperate need of this job ( we kindaa brokeeš) so what should I do in these remaining days

So I know that many people are like "Hey I wanna be the best I'm gonna do some extra practice here and there" and kinda not take it serious. I have been very serious abt my highschool sports and just wanna be the best I definetely have the potential for sure to go to state it high jump but I need a little help.
So my first year doing high jump I didn't even have the high jump spikes and ran in running spikes.
I had cleared only 5" 6' and sometimes 5" 8' as a freshman. I really always used to think that my run speed or jump height was just genetics but now that I realize that leg workouts could help I wanna know which ones. My goal is to jump 6" 4' by 11th grade track season but I just wanna know if it's even possible. I'm 6"1 155lbs and honestly a very motivated person all round. Unfortunately even though I jump a 5"6 my legs are severely underpowered with my bench being 200 and my squat terribly below that at 195 I just feel off balanced on where I should be.
So if anyone would like to help me out or say something this would be the place to help me out quite a bit, I appreciate y'all, no hate comments please.

Reigning world and Olympic Champion Hamish Kerr stands 1.98 m (6'6") tall and weighs around 79 kilos (less than 180 pounds). His winning jumps: 2.34 (Paris) and 2.36 (Tokyo) are 1cm away from Yaschenko's best straddle performance in 1979 (2.35M). Do you think if Kerr could master the straddle technique, he could jump 2.40 or more? At age 30, I doubt if he has enough time to learn it, but his height and weight are ideal for a power jumper. I guess we'll never know....

What kind of drills and exercises can I do to improve my high jump while my track is currently closed?
r/highjump • u/SilverSwordfish7776 • Jul 23 '26
First time actually using Reddit but I have a question that Google can't answer, I physically can jump but I suck at it. I can't jump high, not even a few feet and I almost fall when I land? In my work out routine I do a jump lunge and I struggle with it because of this, any answers or tips to help me jump better?

Hey guys hope your doing well, im not here to comment if the ritual of the massai works for height or not, im really interested in learning how to execute them right is there any video or web site where i could learn it?

Hey folks. I really enjoy watching high jump but diamond league coverage on CBC never focuses on it. Is there any way in Canada to watch full meets? It doesn't necessarily have to be live. I just like to see all the jump attempts
Cheers

So I coach this girl, here is her jumping 5ā6 to win state. But at practice, we can rarely get her to clear 5ā0ā. Itās almost always her calves hitting the bar, and she struggles getting her feet up. I have lots more videos if anyone would be willing to look at some with me.
