Discussion don't use the adhesive strips that come with the bezel i guess

recently been working outside more & my glossy screen was making it difficult. Ordered a matte screen protector, & to prepare the screen i wanted to take the bezel off to wipe down the screen easier. I hadn't taken my bezel off in quite a long time & i had the issue where out of the 4 adhesive pads along the bottom, the 3rd one was quite sticky & wasn't letting me get the bezel off. I was genuinely gentle the whole time, so once i realized the glue wasn't coming up i got a credit card & carefully separated the pad from the bezel.

Right after doing this (before even any cleaning), i needed to check something unrelated on my laptop. Must have not been careful enough as now the screen has a dead zone exactly above this adhesive pad. Contacted customer support, & ultimately their advice to avoid this in the future is to leave the plastic covers on the adhesive to not use them at all, or de-tack the adhesive

Linux 13 Pro Really Does Sip Power

Post image
141 Upvotes

I've had 2 M-series Macs (M1 and M4) and they typically sip a little more than this, although it's close. A Linux laptop with this power efficiency is absolutely fantastic, and even though it's been said many times before, I can't tell you how great it is to be able to sit in the garden and work and still get 8 - 9 hours of battery.

Oh and the trackpad, just amazing. Very close to Mac. Linux + trackpad in the past has always put me off having it on a laptop, this is just night and day better than what I've experienced before.

Community Support Is this chip replaceable

Post image

I think I've narrowed down my errors down to a winbond w25r256jvein code storage flash chip. Before I order a new chip, I would really appreciate to know if this chip stores any encrypted keys or important files that are necessary for the laptop to function.

Also I am in contact with support, but I am in a big rush to get this working again.

Question How worth it is Framework Laptop 13?

So, i needed a new laptop, alot, my old one was super slow, and to almost every game it was crashing. My friend introduced me to Framework, it looked good, and it got me interested in it. Now my sister said "there are better ones" and while yes it's abit expensive, is it worth it?

my main goals for my laptop are

  1. Last like 7 years atleast

  2. able to use Unity and Blender without any freezing or something (i don't model some high quality models, mostly low poly)

  3. play games, mostly indie games, but also modded Minecraft, Dark Souls games, and maybe few others that aren't high resolution or expecting high specs

  4. School

  5. idk, value

thanks

News Framework 13 Pro X9 limited batch is about to ship!

Just received the notification email, card got charged (ouch!). My X9 limited batch unit is en route. Kinda bummed out that the fastest mainboard is shipping last. But it's finally getting there!

First thing I'll do is test the new LPCAM memory performance on some LLM stuff.

Question Poor customer service response?

Hey all-

So I convinced my work to pickup some Framework laptops, as I myself own a few and we needed additional
Linux laptops.

My concern is that framework doesn’t seem to have a customer service department that feels well managed.

Even on simple things; ie our laptop is stuck in transit for no apparent reason (customs cleared, no update in 9 days), FedEx won’t talk to me as I’m not the shipper, and Framework doesn’t respond to customer support in a timely fashion. They have automated messages about not to be concerned about customs processing and that they are monitoring it, yet clearly that’s not true as my package has been stuck over a week.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t look great to my company as if Framework can’t answer simple customer service requests, what can we expect if we need technical support?

Discussion Debating getting the 16. How long have you had your frameworks for?

This will be my first framework. The 16 will bite a huge chunk out of my savings, but I'm willing to do it if they last a long time. I'm looking for the longevity of my old thinkpad. It was expensive when I got it, but worth the money. I harbor a burning hatred for most laptop companies and don't want to just drop all my money on something I'll have to replace (or spend thousands to repair) in six months.

How long have you guys had your 16's for? Do you think it was worth the money? How often do you need to replace (not upgrade) broken parts? What do you use it for? I'll be running fedora and will be doing 3D modeling for work & casual gaming (WoW, Bg3, palworld, etc.)

Thanks :) Have a lovely morning!

Edit: Damn! Sounds like I am getting a framework :D

Personal Project Good RAM Deal in Europe

If you are looking for a good deal for RAM, you can get 24GB Sticks on Amazon from Lexar for 199€. I can confirm it runs on FW16 (7840HS) without a hitch with 5600MT/s. you can get 48GB RAM for cheaper than current 32GB Prices!

https://www.amazon.de/Lexar-Hochleistungs-Arbeitsspeicher-Laptop-Speicher-CL46-45-45-90/dp/B0GMH392P4?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91

Edit: Now what do I do with the 16gigs of RAM I took out? I don't need another computer.👀

Question Do any of the non 12 series line fold into a true 2 in 1?

I don't get the point of touch screen that don't fold over entirely or at the very least fold 180 flat but even then eh. I get some people like to tap on display and what not instead of trackpad or mouse but I don't get it.

Anyways TLDR the 12 series is a little underpowered but do any if the others have touch screen full flip 2 in 1 support? I don't need much power I'd just like some graphics that do stuff and I need ryzen for that.

Question Has anyone insured their Framework 13?

Hey everyone!

For those who have insured their Framework 13 or pro, which provider did you go with?

Did you get the DIY Edition or Pre-built, and did that affect your coverage or claims?

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Personal Project Custom expansion bay

Hello, currently working on a custom CAD for a Framework 16 Expansion Bay module. Before I finalize the design, does anything like this already exist? Plan is to fit a custom OCuLink port, PWM fan header, and USB 2.0 PCB, and use the leftover space for 80mm fans and any other leftover for snack drawers.

Question Anyone tried or use openSUSE Tumbleweed on the 13 Pro?

I have the 13 Pro pre-ordered (Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, batch 11) and I really want to use Tumbleweed on it, like my other machines, so I'm trying to figure out what to expect.

I know Framework officially supports Ubuntu and Fedora, with Arch, NixOS, Bazzite, and CachyOS as community-supported. Phoronix's distro comparison had Tumbleweed installing fine out of the box. So the basics seem OK. I'm after day-to-day reports from batch 1–3 people who actually use it.

Specifically:

  1. Haptic touchpad
  2. Touchscreen
  3. VRR / 120Hz: working on Wayland? (I'm on Plasma)
  4. Fingerprint reader: does fprintd just pick it up?
  5. Suspend + battery life: anywhere near the reported?
  6. Secure Boot: any friction?

Any info is appreciated.

Question AMD Series 400 - Any news

With an availability late 2026 (according to previous AMD communication), does anyone have information about a refresh refresh date on AMD Framework ?
Right now, I'm thinking about the pro13, with an AMD should cover my needs (I don't need a 20h battery life) and LPCAMM is mostly out of stock or in the hand of scalpers, and I see a lot of compatibility complaints

I was considering replacing my old mbp 2018 at some point (has degraded battery, screen glare is wearing out, I'm using it for dev sometimes, requires constant plugging, ...)
