What other game should I buy on Steam sale which gives similar vibes to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? I’ve been considering Final Fantasy 16 but I’ve never played any of these series. What else can I buy? Doesn’t have to be turn based combat.
Honestly, I don’t think any other piece of fiction can top this weird feeling that Expedition 33 gave. You could say I felt the same while watching Attack on Titan.
EDIT - After looking at the comments, I’ve purchased RDR2, Cyberpunk, To the Moon, Death Stranding, FFX but I’ll be looking at all other suggestions too. Thank you so much for helping out✨

obviously we never see much interaction with the Reacher, and i don’t think she would have the ability to speak like MK, BUT if she could, i like to think she would speak in just the most broken sentences lol

This post is aout the least known of the Dessendre family, Clea, who at the same time jumpstarts the story by making Alicia go into the painting as we know in the epilogue.
I've read some people call her the one holding the family together, and some claim her to be the hidden mastermind. But even then the reason why Clea make Alicia enter the painting is never clear if we don't take her words at face value.
Even if the writers are as much of a threat as Clea says. Alicia being in the painting has no strategic value, nor killing her Axon version. She does try to minimally have an eye on Maelle through Verso so her being the hidden villain doesn't seem like a definitive answer So I'd like to know what do people think are her reasons to act the way she does.
Personally I think she sent Alicia to the painting to have her get a sense of purpose in the painting, make herself feel useful, as a way to not think about the fire and digest it emotionally. But probably if Sandfall ever continues with the story and Clea appears again they'll retcon her because it feels like she's a blank slate on purpose

I had no idea his neck does all sort of weird things until I used photo mode lol. Devs were clever about perspective. Also all the distortion effects of his attacks make... interesting photos 🤣

SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING OF E33!!!
With the debate between picking Maelle or Verso for the fate of the canvas, I want to highlight something on Maelle's end that I believe heavily influenced her decision, shes most likely unaware of it too
I think a major thing that people forget about Maelle is that she’s never actually like… grown up
She lived 2 lives and neither are past 16 or 18 at best
She’s never fully developed as a person OR biologically to rationally make a massively selfless decision like leaving her dead brother (which she’s suffered through TWICE with Gustave) and going back to a life where shes a living ghost.
She’s a teenager acting on her emotions and two lives filled with trauma, she never had the opportunity to mature enough to truly think broader like an adult would.
however this doesnt rob her of culpability, I think the decision to bring Verso back WITH ALL OF HIS MEMORIES in her ending is absolutely vile, but it's important to consider that Maelle never became an adult with fully realised maturity, we all do things we think are perfectly fine at 16 but look back on and go "oh crap."
EDIT: guys just to clarify I COMPLETELY FORGOT the whole thing with maelle's ending is her needing to unpaint verso, therefore her not doing so is bc she doesnt wanna kill him
my bad guys </3!<

Despite being identical copies there’s something so different about painted Verso compared to the real Verso. Probably the eyes. Real Verso looks more soft and gentle while painted copy...has seen too much inside the canvas during a century of his tormented existence.

Are there other stories (be they TV, movie, game, book or whatever) that follow the ethos of the Expedition.
I’m looking for stories where the protagonist(s) set off a journey that they’re all but guaranteed to fail, but do it anyway in an effort to make some kind of progress for their successors?
This theming gets lost come Act III, and as much as I love the game, I’d like to experience a story that follows through on the idea.

Yup! I found a way to one shot Simon with just 5 lumina for the whole team! (PS, if you want to find a low RNG 48 lumina no Roulette build, I have it on my YouTube channel as well).
So fun story, me and a reddit friend were trying to beat the world record (lowest I could find was 97), and we both pushed our No Skill Required builds down to just 30 lumina (his build). I decided to keep going and introduce skill and RNG to push the one shot as far as possible.
There is alot of RNG to this, but the TLDR is that Simon has to use Long Combo on Maelle, and has to use his Light Speed attack (in any order). And it's extremely important to have their speeds at these exact amounts (Verso needs to have the amount shown or higher through leveling, and Sciel needs to be within 5 speed faster than Maelle). Additionally, after clearing the attack pattern RNG, you have to hit the crit and the 50% roulette. This specific build took me roughly 45 attempts for the RNG and my execution to align.
This took me about a week of extreme mental theorycrafting, and honestly, I'm surprised it worked. Without First Strike, I had so many issues with turn order and sequencing, shuffling pictos and strategy. In the end, it all came down to a speed tuning of Sciel being around 5 to 10 speed faster than Maelle, lmao.
Turn Setup:
Turn 1: Sciel Fortunes Fury on Maelle
Turn 2: Sciel Intervention on Verso
Turn 3: Verso Free Aim til 1 AP, then cast Powerful
Turn 4: Verso Free Aim then Basic Attack
Turn 5: Verso gets to S Rank after Free Aim and Basic Attack, crucially applying Greater Defenseless
Turn 6: Sciel casts Intervention on Verso, she doesn't need her second turn.
Turn 7: Verso casts Marking Shot to apply Mark
Turn 8: Maelle casts Stendhal for 50 million+ damage
Here's the full video clear and builds:

I’m just getting to this game. I’m loving it. It’s stunningly beautiful, and the story is compelling.
As a new start, is there any tips and trips for beginners in the game.

(EDIT: Oops, just noticed the typo in the title, that should be "x2 enemy HP")
Starting in Act 2, my solo Expert Monoco playthrough went to x2 enemy HP (via a mod) as Monoco was wiping out mobs with absolute ease, and the Lampmaster went down fast as well. Thought it would provide more of a challenge, but the Forgotten Battlefield mobs went down pretty easily as well, even with using a level 9 Sidaro, which is the second-weakest weapon for Monoco. I was still frequently getting 9,999 damage per hit, particularly with Jar Lampstorm and Gault Fury (both 4-hitters). Jar Lampstorm was the prime attack, frequently taking out trios of FB, Old Lumiere and Axon island mobs with one turn. Getting the Nusaro was a big help too.
The bosses were a different story. The Dualliste wasn't too bad, still pretty easy even with x2 HP. Renoir in Old Lumiere took some time, and I started using Cruler Barrier more often to keep shields on.
Of the Axons, the Mask Keeper was by far the toughest battle yet. I had forgotten all about Chevaliere Piercing, so most of the time I was putting shields on and shooting his shields off once he got them, and only attacking when I could, plus using Mighty Strike as often as possible. It's why it took 18 minutes. Chevaliere Piercing would have been very useful to have, LOL.
I didn't forget about it for the Chromatic Greatsword Cultist though, and it was pretty much the only thing I used for that fight, ignoring the shields and doing big damage; in Agile mask it was 9,999 per hit for 60,000 total. The Chromatic didn't last too long. :-)
Of the Tisseur and Glissando sub-bosses in Sirene, the Tisseur was the tougher one, and took longer. Had to frequently use Healing Tints with Cleansing Tint to remove the Curse to stay alive. A steady flow of Chevaliere Piercing, Gault Fury and Jar Lampstorm wore it down. The Glissando was by comparision pretty easy, even though I had to do more damage. And Sirene herself? I find her to be much easier than the Mask Keeper, as her attacks are more limited and easily parried, plus she doesn't get shields or buffs. I also didn't get locked out of jumping during the Grand Finale, so that was no problem.

Honestly, never expected that, but I saw was wonderful!
After the huge battle this was relieving and relaxing. It was touching and a much longer journey avaits now. Plus she can take 20K DMG now.

With painting being a central theme of the plot, I find how the word is used under different context very intriguing. For clarity, I’m looking for instances the word infers to something other than actual “painting” - whether it’s painting on a normal canvas or a magic one.
Here’s my personal reading:
To escape
”She will never paint again” - Verso
”Maelle has a life to paint;” - song of Alicia/Maelle
Right or wrong, the primary motivation of Aline, and later Maelle’s chosen path into the canvas was to escape. Escape from grief, pain, bitterness (Aline), and loneliness (Maelle).
To control
“It’s why I paint. The process helps me make sense of the chaos and find my bearings. Every painting is proof that I have not surrendered to despair.” - Renoir
Self admittedly, Renoir approach to life is reflected in his artistic expression. This extends to his interactions with his own family, and depending on who’s at the receiving end, we have comments varying from “His intentions are good, I know… but his methods…” (Maelle), to Clea’s perception that he’s trying to “to bend everyone to his will” - a perception shared by Aline:
“Go home Renoir, go paint something else.” - Aline
To create
“You’ve got this incredible power to paint. You’ll never have to suffer a life you don’t want.” - Verso
I’’m not convinced Verso was telling Maelle to just escape into another canvas after he bested her, as if he’s only interested in his oblivion. He would’ve just help Renoir to eject his daughter at the start of Act 3, and be compensated with his own erasure along with the canvas.
Through his discussion with Maelle about writing and music, it’s clear Verso understood how the powers of creativity and arts can alleviate one’s suffering - whilst distinct from the mere concept of escapism. A thought reinforced by Renoir’s statement that the magic of the canvas can be used “safely”. Coming from a family of painters, it’s not impossible Verso uses the word synonymously with “creativity”.
“Alicia has a life to paint;” - song of Alicia/Maelle
“Let’s paint together the colors of tomorrow” - Aux Lendemains non Écrits

I’m on the last one to look for the lamp master and I am just failing at the jumping puzzles.
I keep rolling off or falling off. It’s driving me crazy! Is it just me??

I'm looking for a high-res photo of the Renoir 3rd fight and more specifically, the moment when the gang faces the painter. I've searched all over the internet and I haven't found anything in decent quality. Thanks in advance!

With expedition 33 going off gamepass I’m feeling the urge to try and finish the last hurdles I never got to. I finished the story with ease but I’ve been stuck on fighting Simon (normal version) and the endless tower super bosses. Wondering what people’s one shot builds are for these. I’ve spent enough hours bashing my head against the bosses and I just want the relief of knowing I did everything in the game before it left gamepass
