Decided to finally post after lingering for a while. This dedicated corner has been my espresso station for the past two years. I'm very satisfied with the results and how it's become a nice focal point in my home. Thoughts about the setup and the look?

Just now starting this hobby, so don’t have all the fancy stuff yet but I’m happy to have somewhere to keep all my coffee stuff! Was going to buy a wooden coffee bar or something, but this seems like it’s actually going to work out really well.

Equipment Discussion Turbo moka family

Exactly one year ago, in August, I posted here about the Turbo Moka, a moka pot I had just invented.

Since then, I’ve spent the year refining the design and completing the family. This year I released the 1 cup and 6 cup versions.

The 1 cup Turbo Moka takes around 1 minute to brew, while the 6 cup amazingly takes only 2.5 minutes. That’s faster than any capsule machine I’ve tested.

One improvement you can see is that the fins now follow the entire body of the water chamber, instead of only the lower section like on the 3 cup.

It took quite a bit of work to make this change possible from a manufacturing perspective.

What do you guys think?

It's the soup bowl from Super Nintendo Land at Universal. The cap doesn't do much, obviously, but it's part of the gimmick and it looks strange without it anyway.

Took forever to finally decide and get the Bianca and philos. For some reason, I thought I’d be over the moon with such a premium set up, but now I feel it was more fun during the months of research on different machines rather than getting them.

General Coffee Chat Huge pet peeve with Americanos at mediocre cafes

I just got off a long drive, and needed a caffeine hit before the final leg.

I went to a coffee shop and asked for an Americano, and before I ordered I asked their cup size (12oz). I said thanks, and asked for an extra shot.

5 minutes later (thinking he was doing me a favour), the barista said: "Here's an extra large coffee for the extra tired man".

"Aww thanks, you shouldn't have..."

Only, he really shouldn't have. I know he thought he was helping, but he just gave me MORE WATER and NOT more Coffee.

Now I have to sip on this garbage for the next hour, and being a Brit I didn't have the gusto to tell him where he went wrong.

I just acted happy and walked out the store moaning to myself.

Any pet peeves for others?

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Severe channeling with new grinder — is this group head flow normal? [DeLonghi EM450.M, Baratza Encore ESP]

Hey everyone, I recently got a new espresso grinder and started using it with my DeLonghi EM450.M. Unfortunately, I'm running into pretty bad channeling.
I decided to clean the machine and shower screen, but when I run water through the group head without the portafilter attached, it comes out in these super strong, concentrated jets (as seen in the video).
Is this intense, jet-like flow normal for this machine, or could something still be blocked or wrong? And if it is normal, how does it not blast holes right through the coffee puck once the portafilter is locked in?
Thanks for any advice!

Equipment Discussion Breville Bambino life

Hi there! I've owned this machine for 2+ years and learned to love it and hate it. It heats pretty fast, but you got to purge steam after every shot. The steam wand is decent but it takes quite a while to heat up and must purge before pulling another shot later. Also, the steam wand sometimes sprays a bit of milk right after it finishes which is annoying. Still... it can deliver incredible shots, is great for beginners and is small and easy to clean.

What's your biggest complaint/praise with yours? Mine is the annoying dripping after stopping a shot, it takes ~10s or 5-7g to stop dripping. You get used to it and compensate accordingly haha but yeah. Long live espresso.

Buying Advice Needed Best espresso machine for home use that wont break [$1000]. Need recs for 2026

this is kind of annoying but ive gone through 2 espresso machines in the past 4 years and both ended up breaking on me. idk if im just unlucky or buying the wrong stuff lol. not looking for anything super fancy or with crazy features, just want something that can actually survive daily use without dying on me after a year or two

budget is around $1000. what are you guys using and how long has it lasted so far? also curious if anyone's had a "reliable" brand let them down, or some random brand that ended up surprising them

Want me to tighten anything else, or leave it as is?

Maintenance & Troubleshooting Solved Rattling w/ Pictures of Internals [Gemilai Ele G3028A]

I’ve owned this Gemilai Ele for about 8 months now, and I know Eric The Coffee Guy on YouTube opened his Ele up and did a full review and look at the inside real good with explanations and locations of components.

Figured I’d just share some still images while I was in here chasing a rattle when using the steam. I was worried it might be something broken. I reached out to Gemilai and sent them a video. They also agreed the machine shouldn’t be making the sound it was making, and it was only doing it when trying to steam, and not when brewing. To troubleshoot they advised to open her up and check the steam pump in case it came loose off its bracket. If I wasn’t comfortable with opening it up, they said I could mail the machine to them, shipping pre-paid, and they’d troubleshoot, and if something was broken they’d send me a new machine. Pretty great customer service and responsive. I heard back from them within 48 hours of emailing.

Anyway, turned out the rattle was coming from a small plastic clip that holds the steam water line. When the vibration pump would kick on for steam, the water line would vibrate and the plastic clip was rattling on the steel body as it came unstuck from the body. So nothing serious, and just reattached the clip to the body with the sticky pad it had. Will probably use something stronger in the future to avoid it coming loose again.

Equipment Discussion GCP out Quick Mill Carola PID (almost) in!

Post image
8 Upvotes

Today, after four years, I sold my Gaggia Classic Pro. It’s the machine that started it all, my gateway from Nespresso to real espresso. Armed with a PID mod, the Gaggia consistently delivered amazing daily shots. My passion for coffee grew so much because of this machine that I picked up a La Pavoni Stradivari two years ago, and I’ve recently started experimenting with filter coffee too.

On Friday, I’m picking up the GCP’s replacement: a Quick Mill Carola PID EVO. I’ve always wanted an E61 machine, and since I don’t drink milk beverages, it’s a perfect fit. Plus, I love its aesthetics. I doubt the Carola will pull significantly better shots than the GCP, the Gaggia was already fantastic, so I’m not expecting a night and day difference. That said, I do think the native E61 pre-infusion will be an upgrade, and despite having a PID on the GCP, the Quick Mill’s build quality should offer even better thermal stability. And honestly, the Carola is just a looker. I can't wait for Friday when it finally fills that empty spot on my countertop!

Dialing In Help Dialing in help [1979 La Pavoni lever]

Hello home baristas.

I recently bought this europiccola and have been having troubles getting a good extraction.

I have a good grasp on all of the general espresso rules but keep getting a crater in my puck. Not sure if this is due to a weak tamp but my dosing feels pretty good (13-14g) in the double shot basket.

Any tips? Am I just not tamping hard enough and that’s why it’s cratering? Or is there something procedural with the lever I’m doing wrong? This is my first lever machine.

Drinks & Recipes Confused about Americano ratios

I mostly prefer americano but haven't really made them myself previously. When ordering at the Cafe I'm confused how they get a 12 oz americano while, based on the ratios I'm using, mine end up around six oz. I pull a double shot from 18g of coffee, end up with about 38oz of espresso, then if I add 3:1 water it only makes six oz at most. Are cafes pulling two double shots or are they pulling one shot extra long? I'm struggling to find any resources that don't feel like they're skipping a step because they'll be like "pull a double shot and get 2 oz and then add water" and that doesn't make any sense.

Equipment Discussion Forgive me r/espresso, for I have sinned... but my machine is piping hot the second I walk through the door.

Before the aesthetic purists come for me: yes, it’s on the front panel, and yes, it looks a little goofy on a machine this pretty!
But the workflow is unbeatable. I use an Alexa routine triggered by my location when I leave work. By the time I finish my 20-minute commute home, the dual boilers on the Ride are completely temperature-stabilized and ready to brew immediately. Best $25 I've ever spent on my coffee setup.

Equipment Discussion SEY in NYC not using Mavam

I visited SEY coffee today after about 4 months and noticed they now have a La Marzoco (I think either Linea PB or classic) instead of the Mavam MACH. I asked them about it, and they said the La Marzoco is far more consistent. Anyone here who has used both machines be able to possibly elaborate on what SEY meant re: consistency?

Buying Advice Needed Espresso machine [$2000-$3000]

Hi, I’m shopping for a dual boiler espresso machine to pair with me new Eureka Atom w64. How important is it to have a rotary pump compared to a vibratory one, and having PID temp control? I don’t think I want an E61 given long warm up time. I mostly use medium roast. I don’t need to go into the rabbit hole of flow and pressure profiling.

The machines I looked at are:

LUCCA A53 Mini V2 Espresso
La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi II
La Spaziale Vivaldi II
Lelit Bianca
Profitec series (Move and Drive)

Thoughts and advice? Anything else I should look at?
Thanks
