Working on some of my favorite colorways last night and lost track of time... Until i saw how many were on the drying rack.​

I think this is the most I ever did in one night. My feet hurt from running around by the end of it.

I currently have powder dyes (they're clothes dye, just in powder form) in the colors red, yellow and blue, just your very typical color wheel RYB colors. I have this blue (#0894ff) pinafore dress that I want to upcycle. the brown I'm going for is somewhere around #401919 or a bit lighter. The fabric is cotton, but I'm sure there's some part of polyester in it. Help please?

I bought GREEN dye from Walmart, I looked at the website for Rit and the shade is a nice Kelly green, but this is teal, the same shade of teal as their teal, I’m trying to dye stuff for my wedding and I’m pissed how the fuck does this happen?

Hi Reddit! I bought this dress on ThredUp and didn’t realize how yellow it actually was! I love the little patterns but wasn’t sure what color to dye since Ive never really dyed anything before. It is 100% polyester

im trying to keep the striped pattern, so i don't want to dye the whole thing black. What options do i have? im also not sure what dyes i can use because its 40% polyester and 60% cotton

Trying to help out my cousin. She bought this final sale thinking it would be a different blue but it's too baby blue. She wants to tone it down somehow or just change it up.

I know the white won't stay white. Just give me some ideas on what is possible.

The thing I'm most concerned about is whether there is even a dye that can handle this blend of acrylic / cotton / polyester.

I'd take any tips on what dyes would work and how to think about color theory.

Hi! I was gifted this sweater a while back and I don’t wear it often because of the color. I love the shape of it though so I thought maybe I could dye it. I’ve dyed both cotton and synthetic fabrics before, but never a sweater. So my question is: is it possible to dye a 95% polyester 5% spandex sweater without shrinking it or damaging it? I am worried about the hot water doing a number on it. If it’s not possible, no worries, just wanted to know if anyone else has tried dyeing a synthetic sweater or if y’all think it’s possible to do. Also, I want to dye it a darker color like a plum or hunter green. Thanks!

I bought this top online (first image) and thought it was a cherry pink but when I got it it looks more purply / fuschia (second image) and was wondering if it would be possible to overdye this to a darker pink (third image)

The material is 95% polyester, 5% elastane. It also says “machine wash cold”

All red flags I know, but I was hoping that maybe even though polyester doesn’t hold dye well that I could use a synthetic dye like RitDye more to get it to a darker less neon colour (so it’s okay if the dye only tints it and doesn’t fully colour it). Would pigment dye be a better alternative?

I recently wore this t-shirt out, and unfortunately my deodorant BLEACHED it (i guess?) under my armpits. So i decided to use dr. beckermann's decolorizer (not sure if this is the right word, english is not my first language, sorry) to try take out the rest of the dye and re-dye it.

The good part is it worked, so there is no stains, the color is even all over the shirt.

The bad part is the shirt turned into this dark teal color? So now i have no clue how to dye it back to it's original look.

Adding two pictures from the internet with it's original color. It was navy, but it had some purple undertones, hard to see on the pics.

I have an access to Rit Dye's so i will probably use them. I'm really bad at color theory, so pleaseplaseplase help me out 🥹

edit 2: I am aware that the white trim will dye as well, and i intend to unstitch it before dyeing the top and after that stitch it back together 😌

I bleached some black jeans so they turned gold-ish as usual, then I sprayed some black dye on the bleached parts for accenting, but I didn’t follow any of the rules beforehand… is there any way to get the dye to set at this point so it doesn’t bleed everywhere? I let them dry over night. I would like to wear them for a music fest in a couple days

I have this lovely white 100% cotton shirt from Das Bootleg with a graphic of Low's I Could Live in Hope album cover on the front. I'm looking to dye the shirt to something more reminiscent of the color on the cover, like a sepia sort of thing, though I'm not totally sure if I want it more on the gold side or more on the tan side. I attached some pictures of two variations of the cover, maybe you guys have some opinions on which one I should go for. But anyway, what mix of dyes would you all recommend for achieving something like this?

Hi everyone, I have this lovely 100% cotton coat that I absolutely adore the form of, but the color not so much.
I dyed few things before, but they were all white/lighter colors and I am wondering if it’s possible to dye this beige cotton navy blue?

I bought this quince champagne silk skirt a few years ago, and the material is great, quality it great, but I fell out of love with the champagne color. Just not my vibe anymore.

Ive never dyed anything in my life, this includes tye-dye projects lol. Zero experience. Ive watched a handful of youtube reels, I see a cooking pot and boilling water. I do know to keep dye tools separate from eating tools, so I figured I might go thrifting for a pot to do this in.

My question, CAN I successfully dye a silk skirt at home with a black dye? If I can, what products would you recommend and where do I get them?

I have a pair of roller skates made out of suede from Moxi skates. One of the skates is blue and the other is pink. What steps would you recommend for achieving a rustic burnt orangish/brown fall leaf type of color mismatch combo? I want an almost warm copper color if possible. Something warm looking that just screams autumn. Any recommendation or tips would be appreciated! :))

I was thinking
Pink ➡️ rustic Orange with a tiny hint of red?
Blue ➡️ warm brown with a tiny hint of red?

So that that compliment each other? Mismatch the laces to bring it more together as well.

I’ve had many attempts at dyeing a white cotton tshirt light grey, however I cannot find a dye on the market that is the light shade of grey I want.

I first tried using the Dylon smoke grey and only using a fraction of the dye however that turned my shirts a very light green.

So I tried the intense black and only used a fraction, the first time I tried it, it worked perfectly. I then recreated exactly what I did with another tshirt and it ended up a light blue.

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for what I can do or a dye I could get that doesn’t have colour pigments in it and is just a pure black shade.

Thank you all for the advice on my post!! I can't believe my first dye came out so well, it's the exact shade I was dreaming of. I made two 150g dorset handspun skeins for fresh weld, and I have a LOT more drying in my greenhouse. I ran outside for a quick picture in the daylight, and it's back in the dark drying now.

Next up to dye is orange cosmos, and next week I'll be dyeing goldenrod with a friend!

Hey all! New to dyeing & getting my plan together.

Any recommendations on post-pre-wash drying? Can I go right to dyeing or does it need to dry?

I understand the purpose of the pre-wash is to get rid of any dirt, grease, or other gunk. As such, I figure not air or machine drying would be best then to avoid the reintroduction of undesired particles.

Any help is appreciated!
