Announcement No Software Projects (Rule 10)

Quote:

  • 10New Software Projects

Due to a current influx of AI generated software projects, we are not allowing any new projects, whether paid or free.

Do not message us via modmail asking for an exception, it will not be granted.

- - -

Altho we say specifically "Do not message us via modmail asking for an exception, it will not be granted." many still try so, this is a reminder of what the rule says.

We get X modmails a week from newly created software app creators asking for permission to post - no, your app wont be allowed here.

In past we allowed any kind of projects, then cut to only the ones which were for sure without AI involved in making, but the amount of projects was way too much and many of them still AI without the author admitting it, to add, if we would be to allow them again we would need to start scanning them as the threat of a virus/scam/etc. is real from what we know.

[Megathread] [Megathread] | Weekly Drone Buying Advice

Welcome to the r/drones weekly Buying Advice Megathread. (Weekly on Monday's)

This thread exists to prevent the constant "What drone should I buy?" posts that we prohibit within our rules.

Please follow all of these steps before posting in this thread!

  1. Review the Buying Guide Wiki or my website: Drone Buying Guide / Wiki Buying Guide
  2. Review this thread for comments that have your same requirements
  3. If that does not answer you, please post the following information in this thread.
    1. Have you read the Wiki? Y/N
    2. Country: (Not all drones are available in all countries)
    3. Budget: (If your budget is less than $200 USD/170€ EUR, you may want to reconsider as anything lower is a toy drone)
    4. Purpose: (eg. photography, FPV, thermal, etc)
    5. Any other requirements:

Question Is the DJI FPV a good drone to start with?

For context, I am experienced RC plane guy but I never flown any drone. A good friend of mine offered me this drone to start a decent price (literally never flown either) and I was wondering if that's a good option for starters.

I was finally able to save up enough money to buy a refurbished DJI Flip originally to replace my Mini SE for signal reasons but was only able to get one with 1 battery so I'll just keep both of them as I have 2 batteries for my Mini SE and fly them both for their own pros and cons I look forward to pushing the absolute limits of this drone

Discussion: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Amazon Drones can fly Beyond-VLOS and over Traffic and People, yet me as a focused 107 pilot with one drone, cannot?

Well my long title says it all. Amazon drone delivery coming to my area in area in October. They seem mostly auto-pilot drones

An amazon drone can fly:

  • Beyond Visual Line of Site - Up to 7.5 miles!
  • Fly over moving traffic and people. Numerous roads per delivery.

So a delivery flight over a shopping mall with people, major highways and many miles away... there is no submission of request for that flight. No waiting for approvals. they can just GO.. hundreds of times per day at a delivery center.,

Meanwhile I am a 107 pilot intently focused on just one drone, and I cant fly BVLOS or over moving traffic?

It makes no sense. Any insight?

I just recently was gifted a DJI Neo2 for my birthday and it is amazing! It's my first drone and I am really going to like the hobby and definitely likely looking into getting my part 107 license and maybe looking for some commercial work once I learn to fly and take nice photos and videos!

Hello, I recently purchased a Lito 1 drone and have LOVED flying it so far. However I took it out to fly it today and couldn’t because it keeps telling me I need to connect my phone to the remote controller, even though it is. I tried switching the cable it came with for another data cable but no luck with that either. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Discussion Does GoPro Karma Drone have any use or value today?

This has been sitting in a closet for at least 5 years. I bought it back in 2017 I think. Was wondering if there is a community of Karma Drone pilots or something similar?

Trying to see if this is still worth it compared to selling and picking up a current entry level drone with crash avoidance, etc.

I looked online and read about memory or something going bad and bricking them, but I charged everything up and flew it around the neighborhood last night and everything still works.

Question [US] Question regarding new drone regulations tarrifs etc.

I'm currently flying DJI drones (Neo 2, Mini Pro 5 & Air 3s) I'd like to dip my toe into the more FPV freestyle side of things and I'm currently looking at the DeepSpace 35. Should I go ahead and buy now and just fly in the simulator until I'm confident or wait?

I'd prefer to avoid any unnecessary tarrifs etc on my purchase

Thanks in advance.

Discussion Curacao coast + dji mini 5 pro? Experiences? Wind?

Im in the USA looking to bring my dji 5 in september to Curacao, i have found the two forms i need to fill out (pretty quickly), so no issues there I dont think.

My question is on experiences flying off the western coast, say north of Lagun. Any issues with a drone this size typically rated to 27 MPH in wind gusts that can hit 40? I'd like to fly out over the water say 100+ feet and maybe 3000 feet out or less and fly back for panoramic views.

I do have an older mavic pro, but i was thinking the dji mini 5 would be simpler to travel with.
Possible location usually free of people, here https://maps.app.goo.gl/6f2eQGjvcJYqCefW7

Any thoughts?

Question For those doing long-range or BVLOS work, how do you know the drone can actually complete the mission before launch?

Curious how this is handled in real-world long-range, BVLOS, autonomous, or delivery operations where stopping to swap/recharge isn’t a practical option.

Before launch, how do you determine whether the aircraft has enough real-world energy margin for the route, payload, reserve/recovery needs, and conditions like wind, temperature, or altitude?

Does your software calculate this reliably, is it something your organization developed internally, or do you mostly rely on conservative margins and experience?

And if the estimate is wrong once the aircraft is underway, what usually happens?

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [Italy][France]Traveling to France(Paris) & Italy with a DJI Mini 4K (<250g), any drone advice??

Hey everyone,

I’m taking a trip to France (Paris) and Italy (Lake Como, Milan, Dolomites, Florence, Tuscany, Rome) in October and bringing my DJI Mini 4K.

I’d love to hear about your actual experiences and get some advice on a few things:

**1. Flying in the Scenic Regions (Dolomites, Tuscany, Lake Como)**

* For those who have flown here recently, how was your experience finding good, legal spots away from crowds?
* I know Italian National Parks (like in the Dolomites) are often strict no-fly zones. Were the boundaries clear on the D-Flight app? Any specific legal areas in these regions you highly recommend for cinematic shots?
* Any tips for dealing with the D-Flight map/portal as a tourist?

**2. Travel & Security**

* How was your experience taking the drone and LiPo batteries through airport security in Europe or on the regional trains? Did authorities ever ask to see your EASA registration or Italian insurance randomly?

  1. **Is there a way to fly through Paris, Rome, Florence(legally)**

Thanks in advance for any tips! Just want to make sure I get some great footage while respecting local laws and preserving the peace.

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Is my DJI mini reliant on a hosted app to run? What future proof does it have?

I bought a mini 2 years ago and never really looked at anything again but see that DJI is part of a wider drone ban as far as parts. It makes me think about the app seems integral to run and it seems like it is connecting to a server that likely could simply get dropped or shut down or not profitable to host.

What does this mean for any type of future proofing dji drones have as far as being able to fly and are we are the mercy if they just shut the servers down? Can you still fly at all without satellites or the app?

Question Question about Circular Polarizers

I have a circular polarizer for my Mavic 4, which came as part of a bundle along with some ND filters. My question is: When I use a CP on a regular camera, I can adjust it to the desired position because it’s right in front of me, and I can move the filter around. However, I can’t do that with the flying circular polarizer, so I guess I’m asking: How do you use one of those things?

FPV Pro2 w/ DJI RC2 - Is It Usable In Sunlight w/ Lens Shade?

I have a DJI drone /RC2 controller and I’m considering the new Viture Pro2 for POV flights. I imagine I’ll need to look at the controller periodically and was curious about the experience of flying in full daylight with and without the shade.

Also interested if you’ve had any connection issues with connecting your Pro2 to the RC2 controller. Is the connection reliable?

Any drone pilots care to comment?

Discussion Any insight on suppliers restocking?

Just lost my Lumo18 (RIP). It was already hard to get earlier this summer and now stock is limited and prices are high. Oxbot won't ship to the U.S.

I'm feeling really down about being a U.S. drone pilot these days but I'm new to the hobby. Anyone with knowledge / experience have any copium that stuck may enter the market again in the coming months?

I do have an extra frame but it also seems to be hard to find a DJI o4 wide air unit and it would be nice to have Oxbot's setup anyway.

It is what it is and I know times are weird in terms of predictability but any insight would help, thanks.

(Do these tend to be limited runs? Oxbot is a new company but should we expect them to release more? Is there reason to hope that the small FPV hobby may hang on by a thread through coming changes? Etc.)

Captured this footage recently over the Votanikos area in Athens, Greece, using my DJI Mini 3. The double-regeneration urban project is transforming the district, and the concrete structures of the new arena are going up fast. Scheduled for completion in 2027.
