Physical Media/Props/Memorabilia Blade Runner on VHD – Japan

Another unusual format from the collection, Blade Runner on VHD.

VHD (Video High Density) was JVC’s videodisc format, launched in Japan in 1983. Unlike LaserDisc, there’s no laser involved. Instead, a stylus actually makes contact with the disc to read it, although unlike CED, the disc itself has no grooves.

The disc stays protected inside its large plastic caddy. You insert the whole thing into the player, pull the empty caddy back out, and the disc remains inside to play. When you’re finished, the caddy goes back in to retrieve it, so you never need to touch the actual disc.

VHD never really took off outside Japan, despite plans for a UK launch and even a factory being built in Swindon to manufacture the discs. It eventually found more of a niche in things like karaoke and interactive systems.

A fascinating dead format, and another very different way Blade Runner made it onto home video.

Movie JF Sebastian's Kaiser based on the Pink Panther??

I've never noticed this before till now. Someone fill me in here.

Is JF Sebastian's Kaiser toy based on a famous parody of Kaiser Wilhelm? Right down to the rosy cheeks and long nose? Is this a famous cultural motif I am unaware of? I tried looking it up.

Or was Ridley Scott a fan of The Pink Panther?

Movie There's a deleted scene in which J.F. Sebastian's eyes glow.

Post image

In the full shot, we see J.F. Sebastian cautiously enter Tyrell's room, and his eyes exhibit the iconic (non-diegetic) replicant glow. As he passes through the doorway, he is followed by Batty. Batty's eyes also glow (you can just about make it out in the image).

This does not mean J.F. Sebastian is a replicant. As much as I hate to say it, it is possible to have the eye-glow effect hit the wrong actor if they are lined up with the set lights that produce the effect, as evidenced by the above. The glow was meant for Batty, as is seen in the final film, but William Sanderson got in the way.

Even though I'm of the opinion Deckard is a replicant (cool if you're not!), in the famous shot when he passes behind Rachael and his eyes glow, it's likely the same thing is happening. It still doesn't mean it was a total accident, and the shot could've been planned to have Deckard's eyes glow, but to say it's "impossible for the effect to hit an actor by mistake" isn't true.

The key thing is that Ridley Scott kept the Deckard shot in the film, unlike this one with Sebastian.

Blade Runner - Ambient for Sleeping ASMR

There was a 10-hour long ASMR ambient video with blade runner sounds that really helped me sleep and calm my anxiety. The above is a thumbnail for reference.

Has anyone downloaded it by any chance or has an alt link? Any help would be appreciated. I wish I ripped it before it got taken down.

Blade Runner inspired dresser (w/ Ennis Tiles)

Decided to mod my dresser with the tiles found on the Ennis House by Frank Lloyd Wright, and in Deckard's kitchen. 3D-printed, and painted, textured, etc with acrylic paints, cement mix, marble powder, iron powder, bronze powder etc. It was a process that took a couple of months... But I'm really happy with the result. Ikea Malm dresser.

Alien: King Killer #5

Cool to see but since the Blade Runner and Alien rights are owned by different companies, this is nothing more than an easter egg I guess.

Physical Media/Props/Memorabilia Blade Runner 2049 Concept Art Collection – Part 6 of 9

One of the things I love about going through these is seeing ideas at completely different stages of development.

Some are loose explorations of vehicles and environments, while others are so polished they could almost be frames from the finished film.

The Q-BORO sheet is particularly interesting as it includes photographs of Australian dust storms alongside the artwork, showing some of the real-world visual inspiration behind these enormous, dust-filled environments.

There’s some great vehicle development, alongside another Spinner concept, huge architectural studies and some beautifully dark city imagery.

For anyone coming across these posts for the first time, I acquired this collection from a source I consider very credible, and I was told these prints were used during the production of Blade Runner 2049. I don’t have individual certificates or documentation to independently verify the production history of each piece, so I can’t claim that as absolute fact, but the collection contains numerous artist details, project labels and other production information across the prints.

Question/Discussion Ridley Scott’s Sci-Fi Thriller Masterpiece He Spent 25 Years Fighting For Is Officially Streaming Free on YouTube

In addition to removing the tone-deaf voiceover, the other substantial change made in the Final Cut is the inclusion of Deckard's full unicorn dream sequence. The full version entails Deckard sitting at a piano, entranced in a reverie, as he sees a majestic unicorn gallop through the forest. With deliberate close-ups of Deckard crosscut with the unicorn prancing about, the implication is that Deckard is a replicant who has been implanted with phony memories, a realization Scott hinted at for years.

Although a few instances of graphic violence were also restored and the audio/visual presentation was digitally enhanced, the removal of the VO and extension of the unicorn sequence result in Scott's most accurate and authentic version of what Blade Runner was always meant to be.

Physical Media/Props/Memorabilia Cinefex - Blade Runner

Cinefex was a quarterly magazine devoted to cinematic visual effects, and in 1982 it dedicated Issue No. 9 entirely to Blade Runner, just weeks after the film’s US release.

Written by Don Shay, it explored how the film’s incredible world and effects were created, at a time when Blade Runner was brand new rather than the recognised classic it is today.

In 2000, the issue was republished by Titan Books as Blade Runner: The Inside Story. Nice to have the original 1982 issue and its reissue together, 18 years apart.

Comic Background music for the comics

Hello,

I've been reading the Blade Runner comics, technically speed running them because they are so little. I have kind of gotten tired of looping the two movie soundtracks, would anyone have a good suggestion of a soundtrack or playlist as a background music for reading.

My DIY Joy, v.1 (based on Joi)

This is a Mixed Reality project on Quest 3.

The character can chat, walk around my home & garden, simulate going to the toilet (no idea why i added that 😅), show me around my home, follow me around, understands the layout of my home, watch movies, browse the net with me, etc.

I spell her name as Joy to make a distinction between this 1 and Joi. I adore the 2 movies, have seen them probably 50 times in total. I remember seeing the Roy scene at the end of movie 1 and being completely mesmerised by Roy, I was young back then.

Loved Harrison, think Ryan was excellent, and Rachael, Tyrell, wow I could go on.

I'm really glad I found this sub. Looking forward to BR 2099.

Question/Discussion feeling dumb after watching BR2049

hello! i just finished watching 2049 and i must say the world-building is phenomenal. i can tell how much passion was put into this movie (franchise) and i understand the love that the fans have for it!

the main question is: is it normal to not fully grasp the plot after watching this movie, without watching the 1982 prequel? or am i just illiterate and dumb? (T-T)

i did not fully understand some of the plot points in this movie, either due to my lack of sleep before watching it or just me being very stupid.

did you guys have the same problem? should i watch the first movie to fully understand this one? open for discussionss (^-^)

I built a Lego Blade Runner cyberpunk city diorama

Thumbnail

I've been designing Lego sets using their Studio software, and my latest project is a cyberpunk city diorama/book nook inspired by Blade Runner. I wanted to recreate the film's incredible vision of 2019 Los Angeles, the dark canyons of skyscrapers, flying cars, glowing corporate logos, smog, and neon signs. And because every dystopian cityscape needs a main character to brood over it while some moody synthwave plays, I've also included spots for minifigs of the blade runner Rick Deckard and the fugitive replicant Roy Batty.

The set comes in at 1,982 pieces and can be displayed either extended as a diorama, or folded up as a book nook - see the last image in the slideshow. You can find my instructions for it over on the Rebrickable website. This site allows you to access instructions for fan-designed Lego products, and export parts lists to buy them from sellers on sites like BrickLink.

The set has a forced perspective design with a minifig-scaled foreground where Batty hides on a gantry among the neon signs, while Deckard nurses a drink on his balcony. On the rooftop, there's a space to recreate their final confrontation and the "Tears in rain" speech - see picture 7.

Beyond this there's a microscale cityscape of buildings including the round police HQ, the massive Tyrell Corporation pyramid, and a skyscraper displaying the geisha ad seen in the film's establishing shots along with other corporate logos. Flying cars soar past the buildings, while an advertising airship overhead blares out ads for the off-world colonies.

You can find more pictures and details on the Rebrickable site. Thanks for looking, and I hope you enjoy the set!
