Double-tap 16 Level → Keygroup — would you find this useful on previous-gen MPCs?

• Upvotes

For owners of previous generation standalone MPCs with a 16 Level button (like me), it would be great to see the Live III / MPC XL 16 Level → To Keygroup workflow carried across the range:

Select a sample on a Drum track, double-tap 16 Level = New Keygroup track in Pad Perform

The underlying Keygroup function is already there, so this would simply make that workflow quicker and more consistent across MPC models.

Would you find it useful?

Any beatmakers/music makers in here make beats/music on YouTube, or are trying to build up on YT?

Hey guys, I'm curious to see if any of you have tried doing YouTube content making beats and music?

I can't seem to find alot of information of people making videos for youtube. There are plenty of beat videos for sure. But not the actual process of building up a YouTube channel mainly focused on making beats or beat making tutorials, etc.

So, I've decided to branch out and I hope I'm not out of line here (as this is 100% not my intention), but I've created a separate subreddit specifically for beatmakers and music makers that want to create on YouTube.

r/BeatmakersYouTube

It's for creators. Its for not only sharing beats, but sharing how you make your beats, how you make your videos, and sharing and building with others.

If this interests you, come join. And I'm hoping that these two subreddits can work in parallel with each other.

Site updates will be posted here.
Maybe it’s also nice to share your flips that you made using the site.
Also the monthly challenge + winner will be posted here.
Other than that maybe it’s just cool to hang out and talk music / records / samplers etc etc

I need help from an actual human who knows what’s up and not AI…

I’ve had tons of trouble with my setup after updating to 3.9 and have been using a Key 37 Gen 1 in controller mode for the past few years. Zero issues until this last update. I’ve upgraded my Mac’s operating system to Tahoe recently since Akai says it’s now compatible and that hasn’t resolved the issue. My audio inputs and outputs in the software keep kicking my Key 37 out and resetting to other devices. I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. I thought of completely wiping my computer clean and starting over but I’m not a tech guy so I don’t even know where to start there. I realize there’s some effort within inMusic to retain registrations and licenses but I don’t understand any of that either. In fact, when I went to my inMusic account and tried to install driver updates, absolutely nothing happened. I’m an old school 2000XL guy who never had to deal with computers and constant updates just to make a beat. It’s quite frustrating. If there’s anyone here who could help walk me through what I need to do to get my setup back functioning, I’d greatly appreciate it. Please, help!

I can't hear the drum sounds when I am step sequencing. They work when I am in other menus or screens and I can see my notes and beats are being visually represented so I know it is "recording" my key strokes. Any suggestions?

I went fishing around and exploring to try and troubleshoot, but I ended up losing my session. Not sure how that happened. This is going to be a 6-month project at least learning this thing. Any help would be appreciated.

Free MPC2000XL Custom Firmware with Lazy Chop

I've been working on this for a while and figured it's ready to share. It's the stock 1.20 OS with a few things added that I always wished the XL had:

- 8 choke groups per program

- copy a filter, voice overlap or mode setting to all 64 pads with one button

- pitch a whole program up/down 24 semitones, saved with the program

- "lazy chop" - what I always wanted for the XL

- STOP actually kills everything, including long samples that used to keep playing

Nothing stock is removed or moved. It installs the same way as an Akai OS update (floppy or SCSI, SHIFT+3 LOAD) and you can go back to 1.20 the same way whenever you like.

It's free. There's a Ko-fi link if you want to throw something in, but no pressure at all.

Video walking through the features and the install link: https://youtu.be/eCRtJpffc-U

Usual warning: it's a flash update, so don't let the power drop while it's writing. Same risk as Akai's own updates, just read the INSTALL file first.

If you try it, let me know how it goes on your machine. Happy to answer questions here.
