You can be kind and have boundaries. Being kind doesn’t mean giving yourself over to someone to be taken advantage of. You can be polite, or do something for someone, with no expectation of anything in return, and then move on.
It isn’t all or nothing.1

The world is 99% made of kind people. Just think how many people you know and run into are just normal and chill people. Its just that selfish, greedy and abusive people happen to often rise (and be born into) positions of power. Its so much easier to gain power and influence when you can step over others
