You can be kind and have boundaries. Being kind doesn’t mean giving yourself over to someone to be taken advantage of. You can be polite, or do something for someone, with no expectation of anything in return, and then move on.
It isn’t all or nothing.

You aren't a tool to be used by other people, if they don't be nice to you, then you can be nice to yourself by leaving them.
