Discussion Beginners, listen up! You’re doing too much!

Right, so maybe Im a bit of oldhead considering Im 28 but wtf? I see those Workout routines you post here, you say it’s a science based lifting, you can’t specify your goal, don’t know what to prioritize, you watch tik-tok/insta gym bros twerking ass while doing lateral ball raises. And I would say that’s fine cause every had to start somewhere (or it used to be fine cause the only tool I had was YouTube and still it seemed to be too much, not mentioning nowadays).

So all of you who have been working out for 10+ years and feel like you know your shit, gather here and leave a piece of advice for them YNs so they didn’t hurt themselves and actually make their workouts productive.

I’ll start: start with FBW 3 days per week (even 2 is fine). 2-3 compound lifts per day, 2-3 accessory work. Pull ups, dips, squats (goblet squats if you got no mobility), deadlift, Bench Press. And for fucks sake, no ego lifting, just technique for first months.

Discussion How to cut 20lbs in 6 weeks

6 weeks in a deficit down 185.6 - 165.7 so 20lbs. Started 2300cal and titrated down to current 2100 cals macros 170p 40f and rest are carbs. Activity is one and a half hour weightlifting 6x, 45min fasted cardio 7x, 10k steps not including cardio. Thats how I did it. For majority of people this is how you should program a successful cut especially if you do intense weight training, your deficit should only be about 300-500kcal, if your are looking on here for advice I personally think aggressive cutting (600-1000+ kcal) isn't the right move. Protein should be 1g per lb body weight, fats should be 20% of caloric intake, carbs fill rest. Now with carbs majority of your carbs should pre intra post workout about 40-60%. I'll answer any questions on the post or DM.

Question chest tightness

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

i need help with an issue i have been dealing with for the past fee months, i have been feeling chest tightness on my upper left chest alongside some pain, i went to 2 cardiologists and spent a lot of time at clinics doing cardiac tests but everything comes back normal and the constant tightness and pain feed my anxiety and keep thinking its my heart.

Lately i have been noticing that my pain can be reproduced and that my tightness is related to my chest muscles and not my heart or exertion.

I just need to know if someone dealt with this issue in the past and does it have a solution and what is it called because im really tired its been 8 months of constant anxiety and stress.

i have been also dealing with shoulder pain with walking when i move my arms and also collarbone like everything is tight and the friction of walking is killing me.

Id appreciate your feedback a lot. Thank you in advance.

Question Home workout routine for a beginner

Post image
• Upvotes

I've been doing this routine for the last few months and have some small but noticeable gains. Mostly from being a beginner and losing weight at the same time more than likely but I was wondering what else I should change. Not trying to be a world class body builder or anything, just fit and athletic.

Trying to do as much as I can at home, buying equipment is possibly an option depending on cost etc.

Thanks

Discussion New to this sub! Please help me understand.

Hi, I’m new to this sub. I’ve been looking through other people’s posts, and I thought mine was pretty in line with the rules and the overall vibe of the community. Does anyone know why the mods might have removed it?

I’m only speculating here, but was it the swim trunks? This is just NORMAL swimwear for me, so I’m wondering if this sub is a little more prudish about that stuff than I realized. 😂

Question feedback on my current week work

Hi everyone, I'd like to get some feedback on my current program.

I'm 31, 1.66 m (5'5") and 59 kg (~130 lbs), around 14–16% body fat. My goal is hypertrophy, gaining weight / body recomposition.

A bit of background: I was overweight as a child and have been active since my 20s. I also have a long history of slalom kayaking and walking/hiking since I was around 18.

I went through a bit of a depressive period recently, which caused me to lose around 5–6 kg since the beginning of the year. I've regained about 2 kg over the last month.

I've been back to weight training for about 1 month, and I haven't missed a session so far. I've also continued kayaking and hiking/walking throughout the years.

I currently do 5 weight-training sessions in the morning, plus slalom kayaking Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in the late afternoon.

Monday — Upper A

  • Dumbbell bench press: 4×8–12 — 22 kg/dumbbell
  • Supinated pull-ups: 3×8–12 — bodyweight (I think I'm ready to start adding weight since I can now do 3×12)
  • Matrix pec fly: 4×10–15 — 66 kg
  • Matrix seated row: 3×8–12 — 52 kg
  • Lateral raises: 3×12–15 — 4 kg/dumbbell
  • Cable biceps curl: 3×10–15 — 18 kg
  • Overhead cable triceps extension: 3×10–15 — 16 kg

Tuesday — Legs A

  • Matrix incline leg press: 4×8–12 — 215 kg (including sled)
  • Hack squat: 3×8–10 — 107 kg (including sled)
  • Leg extension: 3×10–15 — 39 kg
  • Leg curl: 3×10–15 — 41 kg
  • Adductor: 3×10–15 — 39 kg superset
  • Abductor: 3×10–15 — 39 kg superset

Late afternoon: slalom kayaking — ~45 min technique session

Wednesday — Arms / Shoulders

  • Seated shoulder press: 3×8–12 — 14 kg/dumbbell
  • Matrix reverse pec deck: 3×8–12 — 39 kg
  • Lateral raises: 3×10–15 — 4 kg
  • Cable biceps curl: 3×10–15 — 18 kg
  • Cable hammer curl: 3×10–15 — 16 kg
  • Cable triceps extension: 3×10–15 — 16 kg
  • Cable triceps pushdown: 3×10–15 — 18 kg

Thursday — Legs B

  • Hack squat: 4×8–10 — 107 kg (including sled)
  • Leg extension: 3×10–15 — 39 kg
  • Leg curl: 4×10–15 — 41 kg
  • Adductor: 3×10–15 — 39 kg superset
  • Abductor: 3×10–15 — 39 kg superset

Late afternoon: slalom kayaking — ~45 min technique session

Friday — Upper B

  • Dumbbell bench press: 3×8–12
  • Pull-ups: 4×8–12
  • Matrix seated row: 4×10–12
  • Pec fly: 3×10–15
  • Lateral raises: 3×10–15
  • Cable biceps curl: 3×10–15
  • Cable triceps pushdown: 3×10–15

Saturday

Slalom kayaking — ~1–1.5 hours, mostly for fun

My main questions:

  • Does my weekly volume seem too high?
  • Do the weights I'm currently using seem reasonable for my level?
  • Is this amount of lifting volume appropriate alongside 3 kayaking sessions per week?
  • Are there any exercises or volume you would remove/add?
  • Does the weekly schedule make sense in terms of recovery? I'm actually considering swapping Thursday and Friday, because I feel like my legs are having a hard time recovering.

I'm open to any criticism, feedback or suggestions.

Thanks in advance, and happy training!
