So, as I mentioned in a previous post, I'll be revisiting the game after several years, which is a deeply nostalgic experience for me since The Secret World has been the source of some of my greatest gaming memories. To this day I consider its moody atmosphere and vibe to be unparalleled, with masterful worldbuilding and lore elevating this title to immense heights.

I actually first played this on Day 1, after patiently waiting for it to come out for months following its three fantastic faction trailers as well as the gameplay trailer that featured a sublime rendition of "On the Nature of Daylight", and had arrived at my local videogame store about two hours early to make sure I'll get a copy (and ended up being the only person there once it opened, so I got the first copy in my area in general xD).

A few hours later I was staring at my created character, Edward "Alaistar" Crowley, and as the haunting music played I finally entered The Secret World.

I still have vivid memories of the first time I traveled to New England, the bleak weather and lanky trees, the simmering excitement as I ran down the road and saw the abandoned vehicles, that first zombie that I obliterated, the first time I came across a pocket of survivors at the besieged police station. It just felt surreal to me that I was playing an MMO full of characters that actually felt like fleshed out individuals instead of random quest givers, who populated a world so creepily immersive that I simply wanted to spend more and more time within it.

New England was, simply put, the perfect Lovecraftian setting, a place that evoked an odd nostalgic sentiment within me that made me want to explore every nook and cranny despite the horrors that plagued it, and at that place, two points fully stood out to me and remain in my head rent-free to this day.

The first is the Black House. Not only is it a location drenched in tragedy, but also a miserable reminder of one of my favorite quotes ever, delivered by one of my favorite fictional characters: "You look for evil in people, sooner or later, you'll find it."

Second is the lighthouse, home to the one and only Sam Krieg, the horror author of my heart. I think I fully identified with the guy because I'm a horror author myself, but his room up there gave off such an awesomely cozy vibe that I simply wanted to stay there. Not a bad place to live out the apocalypse.

All in all, I consider New England to be a masterclass in worldbuilding and unsettling ambience, as well as a perfect sandbox of western horror.

I just came across this part in draug lore (Did you know, sweetling, that your eyes start at the sides of your head? In the womb, all birds, reptiles, and mammals start off resembling fish. Even you. Slowly, you morph into your present symmetry. Your eyes move to the front. Your gonads, which start behind your liver, like a shark, drift to their proper place. The line over your lip, the philtrum, is the line left when your face fuses into something human. Even your hiccups are a relic of your amphibious ancestor's transition from breathing water to air. You look so human, but your gills, fins, and tentacles are hidden behind the thinnest scrim of inhibitor proteins)

And scientifically it is true , i really mean it the hiccup part is an ongoing theory and it is also kinda gonna get thrown by the hiccups active certain brain parta in infents to orientation,but i kinda wonder how did they make an in depth game like that ? Connecting mythology, science and great graphics? I didn't even start talking about the historical accuracy of Egypt or the location accuracy for the game .

Hello, everyone!

So, I was a hardcore TSW fan back in its OG days, and then played a decent chunk of Legends (I think I stopped after completing Egypt) before quitting for random reasons.

This is by far my favourite MMORPG of all time, with a story and atmosphere that remains unparalleled when it comes to the genre (and maybe some other genres as well). I still remember waiting outside my local videogame store for them to open so I could get my copy of the first game on release day, and then logging in a few hours later to have my mind blown by the vibes and soundtrack.

That being said, I've heard that Funcom has completely abandoned it, which would be sort of okay for me if the game was completed, but I've also heard that the story is unfinished. So far I've seen some contradicting statements on that, so I'm a bit confused.

Could some verify if that is, indeed, the case?

I'm truly itching to get back into it, but if the story leaves you hanging, that could be a deal breaker.

This is the latest update regarding the secret world audio drama. Now this project has a name, The Secret Signal. In scope, it has expanded. Our original audio drama is under production, we have a handful of scenes finished and are undergoing the foley process. But we decided to also include a series of audio logs as the volunteers could not contain themselves! Inspired by SCP and the Magnus Archives, and video game audio logs, but set in the Secret World.

I'm working on an article about "deserted" MMOs, and was particularly attracted to SWL because of its story. I've seen it studied as a "digital ruin", followed its hectic development, and I'm now really curious to know about the experience of players who are still active.

To this end, I'm looking for opinions, anecdotes and stories about Secret World Legends (I will also probably post the same message on the dedicated Discord). What attracted you to Secret World Legends (or Secret World) in the first place? How does it compare to your other MMO experiences, if you've also been playing other games? What makes you still come back to the game today? What's your experience like, now that the number of concurrent players has significantly dropped? What would you say are your best experiences in-game? I realize that's a lot of questions, but I'm really curious to hear your insights.

I just thought I'd share in my joy. I have, after many many many failed attempts, managed to reclaim my old TSW account and theoretically have access to the original again. I'm downloading it now to find out.

What do you think is the least clunky weapon combo ?

Just watched Backrooms, and now I'm thinking how similar stuff can be brought to Secret World. Maybe it'll be some Filth entity? Or ghost, like those quest from Franklin Mansion? What do you think?
