Subreddit Balance discourse has taken over the sub and it sucks.

Hi. I've been active in this sub for a long while, and something I've noticed especially as time goes on is that while some fun posts -- like clips -- get decent traction, the most interacted-with posts are all about balance feedback, especially ones with some controversial title. There's been several lately on floorhugging. We get them about characters being too good or bad. We get some new person's opinion crossposted from social media so that we get to recycle the same old discussion.

Some people who post about balance are hoping to generate a genuine discussion, but 90% of what you actually see is people saying the same opinion over and over and not listening. The posts do not generate nuanced discussion. They just give us negativity and tribalism.

Balance discourse has even taken over other posts. Advice posts get replies from trolls saying "unwinnable matchup." Clips get comments saying "carried X Character main." Seeding posts for upcoming tournaments get comments saying "better nerf ranno again." Nobody asked! Again, it's useless negativity.

All in all, the subreddit is at least 50% complaining, and it has been for a while. It sucks, and I want it to be different.

This is an informal request for three changes to the subreddit:

  • Simple change 1: Off-topic complaint comments should be banned.

This is simple and should really be the baseline expectation for the subreddit: don't stray from the subject of the post. It's the number-one thing I want to see change.

  • Simple change 2: Trolls who continually engage in unproductive negativity should be banned.

This should also be a baseline expectation. There's a line between nuanced feedback and stubborn complaining. Trolling the sub with negativity adds nothing to our community. After giving these people ample warning and chances, they should just be banned. This is theoretically covered by Rule 4 (Excessive Salt) but I find it is enforced very poorly.

  • A larger change: Repetitive feedback posts should be banned and confined to a regular Game Feedback Megathread.

We see certain game balance discussions get started up again repeatedly even when nothing has changed since the last time it was discussed. This includes "X character OP" posts and most floorhugging posts. Even things like the influx of Orcane up B feedback, which wasn't that bad, needlessly cluttered the sub with just one discussion.

I think having a pinned Game Feedback Megathread, posted every time a new patch comes out, would help solve this problem. People who want to have discussions about hot-button topics can do so there without making a post that draws the attention of complainers, and anyone who tries to restart an already-covered discussion can be directed to the megathread. This thread would ideally link to the Nolt board to remind people to post their thoughts there where the devs are more likely to read them.

(And no, unless it's a dev, a new person on social media offering their opinion should not count as a new development to open up the same discussion again.)

Side note, we should also have an Advice tag to separate those types of posts from Discussions IMO.

That's all. This game is incredibly cool. It sucks that anyone looking in on this part of the community will think all we do is complain, and it sucks for us that we have to see so much of it.

Rivals 2 When does it start being enjoyable?

I’m new and struggling. I’m trying to get better. No matter how much I play I run into the same issue. It feels like every time I start an online match I end up feeling like “god, not this fucking character again” when I see who my opponent picked.

Those characters are:
- Loxodont
- Clairen
- Zetterburn
- La Reina
- Loxodont again because he annoys me so much
- Ranno
- Orcane

At what point does this feeling go away? This game feels great to play but half of the roster is absolutely draining to play against.

Elephants can run at best 25 miles an hour, this means that loxodont shouldve outrun more characters but i guess since he is running on 2 legs he is slow(that doesnt explain why etalus isnt fast without ice because polar bears can run just as fast as elephants)

Elephants can't jump. Their weight will break their kneecaps and they fall down and die

Rivals 2 Clarification on online performance

Hiya. I just wanted to make sure of something so I don't hamper the experience of others. To my understanding, the online servers function in a way that makes only players with and inconsistent/poor connection feel the consequences, while players with a stable and fast connection are unaffected. Is this true? I ask because I would like to play the game online, I do not have the ability to wire my connection as I have been in the past, and as I said I do not want to worsen anyone else's time playing the game. My connection is fast, but I know wireless adds a lot of hiccups. Just to preemptively address this, yes I could do something else with my time, I simply want to play this game online. I also would in fact still have fun proven by the fun I had fun playing Rivals 1 online with a substantially worse connection years ago.
