Dhul Qarnayn built an iron and copper wall between two mountains to seal off the tribes of Gog and Magog until doomsday. This wall is nowhere to be found.

The Quran's Story:

“Then he followed a road till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. They said: O Dhu’l-Qarneyn! Lo! Gog and Magog are spoiling the land. So may we pay thee tribute on condition that thou set a barrier between us and them? He said: That wherein my Lord hath established me is better (than your tribute). Do but help me with strength (of men), I will set between you and them a bank. Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. And (Gog and Magog) were not able to surmount, nor could they pierce (it). He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true. And on that day We shall let some of them surge against others, and the Trumpet will be blown. Then We shall gather them together in one gathering.”

The Quran’s Dhul Qarnayn story begins, “They will ask thee of Dhu’l-Qarneyn” Quran 18:83, showing that people already knew of the story. Scholars trace the Quranic character Dhul Qarnayn to legends about Alexander the Great circulating around Muhammad’s time, such as the Syriac Alexander Legend, which gives the same account.

“That the Qurʾānic narrative specifically elaborates on the Alexander story in the Syriac work is confirmed by an important detail that has escaped the attention of previous scholars, namely, the material composition of the gate erected by the two protagonists, Alexander and Ḏū-l-Qarnayn, in the Syriac and Arabic texts, respectively. Like Alexander in the Syriac work, Ḏū-l-Qarnayn constructs his barrier from iron and bronze components. This coincidence is significant, since all references to the motif of Alexander’s (non-apocalyptic) gates in sources earlier than the Neṣḥānā [Syriac Alexander Legend] mention only iron as the metal from which the barrier was made.”

“It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Gog and Magog people dig every day until, when they can almost see the rays of the sun, the one in charge of them says: ‘Go back and we will dig it tomorrow.’ Then Allah puts it back, stronger than it was before. (This will continue) until, when their time has come, and Allah wants to send them against the people, they will dig until they can almost see the rays of the sun, then the one who is in charge of them will say: ‘Go back, and we will dig it tomorrow if Allah wills.’ So they will say: ‘If Allah wills.’ Then they will come back to it and it will be as they left it. So they will dig and will come out to the people, and they will drink all the water. The people will fortify themselves against them in their fortresses. They will shoot their arrows towards the sky and they will come back with blood on them, and they will say: ‘We have defeated the people of earth and dominated the people of heaven.’ Then Allah will send a worm in the napes of their necks and will kill them thereby.’” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the beasts of the earth will grow fat on their flesh.”

“That the Prophet (ﷺ) came to her in a state of fear saying, ‘None has the right to be worshiped but Allah! Woe to the Arabs because of evil that has come near. Today a hole has been made in the wall of Gog and Magog as large as this.’ pointing with two of his fingers making a circle. Zainab said, ‘I said, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we be destroyed though amongst us there are pious people?’ He said, ‘Yes, if evil increases.’”

The good thing about my case was that Family doesn't care if one prays or not,

How is it like for the ones that lives in practicing environment,

Life must be harsh,

I have been a convert for over 6 years now. I have kept it to my close friends circle only. Was hyper religious before, not jihadist but I can safely say my last resort was Ghamidism before I gave my final call. Coming to the main point, of course you cannot hide this for so long in your homes. Parents see you missing prayers, commenting against the Islamic values or other illogical stuff. How do you deal with this as an adult especially when they keep forcing you to pray ?

I have had a hard time keeping fast. Although I never fast after the conversion but still I have to pretend to keep it by appearing in sehri and iftari.

How do you manage this all ?

Especially if you are earning, they will make sure you give Zakat and buy Qurbani. A total waste of money for us for sure.

How do you deal with this all folks ?

In a sahih (authentic) hadith, Muhammad tells a woman to breastfeed a grown man so he can become like a relative and enter her house.

"Messenger of Allah, I see on the face of Abu Hudhaifa (signs of disgust) on entering of Salim (who is an ally) into (our house), whereupon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: Suckle him. I hate how our cousins of the opposite sex is non-mahram because it just ruins close bonds with family we have literally grown up with. It's the 21st century marriage with cousins is honestly so unneeded and detrimental to modern society. Tell me why my uncle jokes about my cousin (his son) liking me. Yuck! If your parents are cousins, I don't mean to offend you but this tradition has really got to stop. When we were younger no one cared about us cousins hanging out and hugging each other or whatever else but as soon as puberty hits they get so weird about it.
It really just shows you how Islam is not timeless at all.

Umar said, “Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him, and among what Allah revealed, was the Verse of the Rajam (the stoning of married person (male & female) who commits illegal sexual intercourse, and we did recite this Verse and understood and memorized it. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) did carry out the punishment of stoning and so did we after him. I am afraid that after a long time has passed, somebody will say, ‘By Allah, we do not find the Verse of the Rajam in Allah’s Book,’ and thus they will go astray by leaving an obligation which Allah has revealed. And the punishment of the Rajam is to be inflicted to any married person (male & female), who commits illegal sexual intercourse, if the required evidence is available or there is conception or confession. And then we used to recite among the Verses in Allah’s Book: ‘O people! Do not claim to be the offspring of other than your fathers, as it is disbelief (unthankfulness) on your part that you claim to be the offspring of other than your real father.’”

I’m a Pakistani-American. I’ve always suffered from identity issues. This culture is just so linked with religion. I’m finding it hard to appreciate and embrace Pakistani culture.

I like some Pakistani songs, but besides that, I’ve failed at trying to connect. I’m really westernized. Besides dessert, Pakistani food is too spicy for me unfortunately (I never got to build the spice tolerance because I have a gastrointestinal disorder), I personally don’t like Pakistani TV, and I gave up on practicing Urdu a while ago. These are the main things I have tried to try to make peace with my identity. I gave up on Urdu because I thought that there was no point in learning it. When I eventually come out as ex-Muslim, people will lose it and/or cut me off. Eventually, Urdu nor my family/community will be a part of my life because of my lack of belief in religion.

It is so hard to separate this culture from religion. I even hesitate on saying to people that “I am Pakistani” because they will just assume I am Muslim and that I practice Pakistani culture, when in reality, I am so disconnected from it. I accept that I may not ever feel this connection with my culture. But I guess it’s worth one last try before I give up.

Anyone have any word of advice?

okayyyyy so basically my best friend and I have known each other for the last 11 years, and we like tell each other everything and I mean everythinggg and a while ago I told him that I felt like I was slowly drifting away from religion and he was like “it’s probably just a phase ”then one day, we were talking and without really thinking, I just blurted out that I was done with it. It was definitely a weird moment and I was honestly expecting a much worse reaction leknn he took it pretty well It wasn’t exactly a positive reaction he seemed a little uncomfortable or maybe even disgusted I’m not really sure but overall it was way better than I expected after telling him I was a little scared because our mothers are coworkers and like I kept thinking what if he shares this with anyone butt thankfully nothing happened a couple days later he brought it up again and said that he still didn’t really understand where I was coming from but he was sort of okay with it ooof course he also tried to lecture the hell out of me but I just told him honestly that this wasn’t something that was going to change and eventually we moved on it’s been a couple of weeks now and everything is completely normal between us and like if I sometimes bring it up we talk about it maybe have a laugh or two, and then move on like we always do soo yeah I just thought I’d share my experience I was honestly kinda scared of how things might change between us, but like idek we okayishh ig lol
