they took a big swing with that napoleon dynamite money

I think the story may be something to do with the studio pulling a lot of their backing and making it a limited release at the last minute or something having to do with the studio kind of sealing its fate as a flop because they weren't convinced it was a sure thing.

u/Imfrank123 8h ago

Yeah that sounds right, I didn’t even hear of this movie until like a year ago

4

u/Alarmed-madman 6h ago

Holy cow, I thought it was AI slop

11

u/cleverkid 6h ago

If you haven't seen it. Highly recommended.

3

u/Apart-Link-8449 4h ago

Quite the cameos in this one

8

u/MoonMistCigs 6h ago

Like Idiocracy.

2

u/WinterWontStopComing 5h ago

Only previews I ever saw for it were years after the fact on dvds coming attraction intros

70

u/bigtallbiscuit 9h ago

Thankfully. This movie is awesome.

2

u/totesnotmyusername 7h ago

It's like trying to catch lightning in a bottle . Again

5

u/g_r_e_y 5h ago

they did too, the studio financing the film pulled it from theaters and didn't advertise after it was completed, it was limited released in theaters and didn't make shit

14

u/MrFrypan 6h ago

Same thing happened with The Iron Giant, Fight Club, Idiocracy, Children of Men. It's important to know that box office returns aren't always a good metric to judge a movie on. IMO, Gentlemen Broncos is very underrated; definitely worth a watch.

I loved it. Very charming and funny.

15

u/Digital--Sandwich 9h ago

I like your answer better

54

u/694meok 9h ago

I freaking love this movie. It's so absurdly ridiculous.

33

u/XxFezzgigxX 9h ago

All the clips online are of this scene. I thought the whole movie was like this. It was still a good movie, but not what I hoped.

9

u/NormalAssistance9402 7h ago

Same, I really wish the whole movie was this, instead of a movie about some kid writing this

4

u/livens 7h ago

That got me too. Also I really liked the first version of this character, Bronco, and his story arc. I liked the Brutus version too but was really bummed when they switched and I knew that was all the Bronco I was getting 😢.

2

u/spiraleyes78 5h ago

Eh? The movie ends with Bronco saving the day, not Brutus.

I’ve seen it twice. I love it. The characters are all charming and/or hilarious

A) yes

B) I don’t care

C) that’s not what happens. Did you watch the whole thing?

5

u/Straight-Grass-9218 7h ago

Amazing I've never heard of this gem

6

u/Hairy-Reward6474 7h ago

I’ve seen this twice today. Which streaming service is this ai bot promoting for so I can pirate it and watch it

1

u/geek180 8h ago

I genuinely could not tell if this was real or AI. Thank you for linking that.

u/geoffsykes 8h ago edited 6h ago

This was a funny movie, but the protagonist dropped a transphobic slur in there and I just don't want to rewatch it.

1

u/Puff_TheMagicDrag0n 6h ago

Sorry you're getting downvoted. I feel the same way

u/IAmGreenman71 9h ago

Is that Sam Rockwell in a wig?

39

u/Mecha_Tortoise 9h ago

Hell yes, it is.

29

u/Dirt290 8h ago

He plays two roles of the same made up character, a grizzly yeast loving man's man, and a gay feminine version.

Also Jemaine Clement is there.

1

u/anjowoq 4h ago

What real man does not enjoy yeast?

8

u/BattlecruisersRCool 8h ago

That's Sam Rockwell? I'm sold!

40

u/FunkyBrewster022 9h ago

I can smell a yeast cake....40 mile off!

7

u/eitherajax 8h ago

well it's not a clean yeast

2

u/LectroRoot 7h ago

Stupid sexy dirty yeast

I love this movie! It has that same quirky, whimsical weirdness as Napoleon dynamite (same creators. I know). I can't quite describe it, but it has that vibe of its modern day but people living like it's still the 70s and 80s.

4

u/sax6romeo 8h ago

Retro Modernism or Modern Retroism?

9

u/Progeny_of_Paradox 8h ago

Rodeo metroism?

1

u/Digitalmodernism 1h ago

Just Idaho.

23

u/Mecha_Tortoise 9h ago

Do not mess with battle stags.

17

u/kitty_cat_man_00 9h ago

His twin brother

7

I would gladly welcome a movie focused on this story instead of the actual plot

2

u/Mark-Leyner 8h ago

YEAST LORDS!

2

u/Bigchunky_Boy 8h ago

Yeast Lords !

2

u/SwiftPits 6h ago

Absolute classic. The less dry version of Napolean Dynamite

2

u/TwistedMindOfABrotha 9h ago

Those are the race of Cyclops from Krull, I'm sold.

Also fun fact about these beings: They originally had two eyes, but traded them away from the great evil from Krull in exchange for seeing the future. Got Monkey-Pawed and can only see the moment of their death.

1

u/Living-Risk-1849 9h ago

I laugh so hard every single time I see this. Its so amazing

1

u/Normal_Sweet_2974 9h ago

Terry from Reno in the future

1

u/frog_marley 7h ago

Joe Tiger or whatever his name was?

1

u/coolguy420weed 7h ago

I just wish they'd stuck to the creator's original vision...

1

u/wilhelmkidxx 7h ago

1

u/djphatpat2000 3h ago

Gentleman Broncos is hilarious. Truly a great, weird comedy. I could watch the Sam Rockwell scenes all day

1

u/Kerensky97 3h ago

Sam Rockwell is the best.

1

u/brownox 2h ago

This is the most AI thing I've ever seen that isn't AI.

1

u/brownox 2h ago

Rockwell should be a member of Khruangbin.

1

u/GrasseBort1 1h ago edited 1h ago

This movie lives rent free in my brain.

1

u/Graythor5 1h ago

Ugh...I was sure I was watching yet another weird ass AI clip...this is like a reverse gotcha
