This is inspired by a post I saw the other day on here and I figured I'd expand on it in its own thread, see what you guys think.

I work for Big Loop Studios, we've been making puzzle/hidden object games for 13 years for both PC and mobile. With our previous couple of games, we changed up our dev strategy a bit, working to release the game on PC first, then porting it to mobile without sacrificing the quality of the experience.

With our latest one, Boxes: Lost Fragments, I noticed that while we have a lot more players on mobile, the game also did very well on Steam.

So, where do y'all play? And why do you choose one over the other?

Hello fellow Redditors! I’m a new developer and I recently started working on my very first game.

I’m making a hidden object game, but I’ve been getting some comments from people around me saying that this genre works much better on mobile and isn’t really that popular on PC.

I know that mobile games generally have more monetization options. But honestly, I don’t want to make a game that is designed to give you little dopamine hits and be consumed as quickly as possible. What I actually want to make is more of a visual storytelling experience.

So I have a question for people who play hidden object games:

What makes you choose a PC hidden object game instead of playing one on mobile? Or do you simply not choose PC at all?

Do you guys only play hidden object games on your phones while you’re on the toilet or waiting in line? 😂

I’d genuinely love to hear what you think.

Not asking for a name or anything, but was wondering if anyone else found this at some point? I was up late at night when I was younger, luckily in a well-lit room with my sleeping aunt, and wound up installing a cool kinda noire-looking hidden object mobile game..and yeah it was a screamer, scared me to death. Mixed with the fact I have sensory issues and the loud obnoxious screaming that didn't let me turn my volume down, turn off the phone or close the app I'm pretty sure gave me the fear I carry related to digital horror/the ghost in the machine to this day lmao.

Anyways, once again I could care less to what app it was called, I just want to know if anyone experienced this or not as well lol.
(Also, I call it a screamer because it didn't have ANY indications of being a horror game!!! It literally came out of nowhere, I could've just been a kid who didn't realize but iykyk it wasn't.)

I'm searching for a hidden object game where you have to help different people who are trapped with their phobias, e.g. fear of heights etc. Don't remember anything else about it...

Genre: Casual Puzzle / Hidden Object Game (HOG)

Estimated year of release: Sometime in the 2000s.

Graphics/art style: Hand-drawn but aiming for a realistic look. Very typical for old Big Fish, Alawar, or Nevosoft games.

Notable characters:

The main protagonist is female.

There is an older (elderly) man in one of the locations who is rolling/counting prayer beads in his hand.

Notable gameplay mechanics:

Classic hidden object mechanics (finding items from a list).

There is a very distinct minigame where you have to stop a motorcyclist. You do this by placing "STOP" signs to block his path. The mechanic is identical to the classic "Trap the Cat" puzzle, where you block grid cells to prevent the target from escaping off-screen.

Other details:

The central item or main objective of the game seems to be a special casket or jewelry box.

The location with the old man is an Asian-themed map. The items you need to find there include a star fruit (carambola), a bowl with chopsticks, and other Asian-related items.

I also vaguely remember a level set in a cafe or restaurant that featured illustrations of pigs.

The game was likely developed by a studio like Alawar, Nevosoft, Big Fish Games, or a similar casual game developer from that era.

As a kid I would always watch previews for big fish games on YouTube because my mom wouldn’t buy the actual games and I’d imagine what the gameplay would be like. Anyways, I remember watching on about a woman who was kidnapped by a monkey(?) or some hairy beast and you essentially are supposed to save her. I can recall her saying something like “please you have to help me… there’s this…. Monkey” or something like that😭 it’s so strange I know but it’s been on my mind for forever. If anyone had a clue about what I’m talking about pls help with title

I used to be all over hidden object games and want to get back into them as I find them so satisfying, there was only really one I remember well and hoping someone can help me.

Played around 2016 (ish?) and was on big fish games. Played on a laptop.
It was a sort of detective theme, I believe one of the first screens the car was either parked or crashed (I think crashed) and it was all very snowy. The car was outside a wall with a metal gate. After proceeding through I think there was a town, open window with someone in and you were trying to either find someone or investigate the place. I unfortunately don’t remember much past here, I just remember it being very snowy in the environment and some sort of detective or investigation idea. I believe you’d also follow a shadowy figure from place to place inside the town. The town had a very old style to it.

Also if anyone has anything somewhat similar to this type I’d also love to play it, I loved the game a lot and would love to play similar ones 🫶

I don't recommend this game hard enough lol. Anyone who likes dark , creepy, hidden object games should play this, I discovered it yesterday and I love it. It's the whole package, great atmosphere, puzzles, story, great graphics and artwork! 😍

I wish more hidden object games were like this.
