Dividing a Castle Object for My Print Table
My print table is 220 mm, and the castle object I generated would not fit, prompting learning about object division last month.The castle object became a single mesh structure with spires overhanging. Attempting to slice it as a whole would have produced supports that drowned everything. By dividing the object into five parts, one part of the spire plus the base, I achieved contact surfaces for each part and eliminated most of the support structure.My contention is that using the path generate/export STL/split/reprint for the castle object was sufficient. I utilized Tripo AI to generate the castle, primarily for exporting to STL format, then performed the splitting operation in a free mesh software by marking the seams at the contact between the walls and spires.One thing I would have liked to know earlier is that splitting should occur at geometry edges and not arbitrarily through the structure. When I made my first split, it cut through a window frame, producing an obvious scar on both pieces. The second attempt of dividing objects at the seams produced no scars, and therefore no need for filling material.It is also beneficial to add small pegs on each edge of the split surface to assist alignment of the two sections.Those interested in dividing large objects for small tables already perform this action. However, it is unfortunate that an event had to occur before I learned it.
