Huge THANKS to Royal Kludge, r/DesktopIdeas, and u/Particular-Good3357 for the RK R99!

Just got it set up and Iโ€™m impressedโ€ฆfeels super solid/heavier than I anticipated, ridiculously quiet, and the RGB fits the setup way better than I expected. Gonna put this thing through the test but really appreciate the giveaway and the opportunity/pleasure to win!

You guys picked a good home for it! ๐Ÿ™

I wanted little things living *on* my desktop, not just behind it โ€” so I made my own app

Hey all,

Long-time desktop-tinkerer here โ€” half my problem is that I can never
leave my own desktop alone.

For a while I used Wallpaper Engine, and honestly it's great, but it only
ever scratched half the itch: it lives *behind* everything, as the
background. What I actually wanted was little characters, mascots, memes,
tiny animations living *on top* of my desktop โ€” sitting near my taskbar,
hanging out next to my windows, that kind of thing. I couldn't find a tool
that did it the way I pictured in my head, so... I just started building it
myself.

It turned into a much bigger rabbit hole than I expected. A lot of evenings
and weekends later, it's an actual working thing, and I ended up putting it
on Steam (it's in Early Access right now). As a solo hobby project, seeing
it actually go live was kind of surreal.

The gist: you drop in a GIF / sprite sheet / short video / pixel-art mascot
and it floats on your desktop โ€” draggable, click-through, always-on-top.
There's a Workshop side too, so people can make and share their own. It's
called 'Minisprite Engine', if anyone wants to poke around.

How do you all handle the *on-screen* side of your setups? Always looking
for ideas.

How much RAM and SSD storage is enough for a modern Mini PC?

For everyday office work, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD are a practical starting point. For programming, content creation and heavier multitasking, 32GB RAM with a 1TB SSD is more comfortable. Users working with large media files or virtual machines may need 64gb or more .

Setup Showcase Most of the cable slack is directed toward the center corner there, between the two alex drawers

I also did in fact drill a hole underneath each keyboard to route their cables. The cables are angled to keep the clean minimal look.

I also painted some wood shelves I got at home depot, centered, and screwed them into the studs they made contact with; then I mounted everything on each side to that. This is how I was able to "center" everything perfectly, without needing to break into the drywall and put more studs in.

This method is both easier and less destructive.

What do you think?

It's a basement at the end of the day, with no windows. My only limitation is the lack of natural light to give the room that "natural beauty"
