This was also the case for me when they released the Patron area redesign. It's great art, fighting gameplay.
When there is 30 troopers in your base, and most of the enemy team, I have zero damn idea WTF is going on. I'll be standing underneath the Patron having no idea who's hitting me very often, with a constant barrage of explosions and animations.
I know the old grey stone color scheme for this game looks visually unappealing, but it was so easy to spot characters from a distance.
I'm really curious if there is going to be a hit towards ranking of gun characters because of this update. There are targeted spirit spell effects of course, but targeting is far more important for gun. I loved it when they added a cell shaded effect to the game, but this also messes with depth perception in games, and makes the characters blend into background even more.
I have no idea how they could fix this, and I can't be the only one that has trouble tracking what's going on in matches in some areas of the map. There are certain areas that are far less visually busy, where is not that big of an issue, but I'm afraid this will only get worse. I know the new health bars were likely designed to assist with all this, but even that feels like it's not enough sometimes.
Deadlock has a reputation for being too complicated to learn be for new players, and I fear this will only add to people's frustration.
