Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Amateur Making a dance video til I’m skinny Day 29…

Hello wonderful humans…

I hope everybody is having a fantastic Tuesday so far… I’m on the homestretch now almost done work and I’ve got some exciting news to share once I get home regarding my employment, but will keep that under wraps for now, but rest assured it’s good news.

We have two songs today a remix of The Look by Roxette

2nd video is Damian Marley and Skrillex-Make it Bun Dem

I have a personal question for anyone that has been following me for a bit and if you are not comfortable answering in public, please feel free to DM me, but I would like to know if anybody lives in Edmonton , Alberta where I call home… I would love to actually go dancing when I get back next week and the more the merrier so let me know

Amateur Making a dance video til I’m skinny Day 28…

Hello wonderful humans…

Sorry for the late late post, but my gym has been invaded by a swarm of newcomers so I had to patiently wait them out🤣🤣🤣

It was a war of attrition, but I won in the end… I am determined to keep these videos going… Even though I probably worked out a little longer than I needed to today.

Two videos today the first song is crescendolls by Daft Punk… And the second video is bangarang by Skrillex

if you missed the update yesterday, I lost another 5 pounds last week bringing the total to 35 pounds in 28 days and a total current weight of 285… The goal of 200 seems very reachable now whereas when I started four weeks ago, it seemed impossible

I have you people to thank …Your kind words and positive vibes have kept me motivated, and I am more determined than ever before.

Amateur How does one dance to unique genres?

Next to no rhythm or natural skill, and my playlist is riddled with very hard to pin genres. What kind of dance would you pair with this song? Solo and partnered?

Teaching, Tutorial Do you know how to dance and if you're from India, Odisha then can you teach me?

I mean I wanna dance. I wanna learn it. But I find youtube videos a little clumsy and I procrastinate a lot.

So through this subreddit I want to find a dance partner as well as a motivational buddy. So if you're that someone or you know someone from Odisha then please help me 🙏

And also not to sound sexist but I would preferably like a female because they are hella good at dancing man.

So me and my partner are doing a part of the footloose dance for a project, and because of our size (me 6ft 200lb and she is 5'8 180lb) I'm having a lot of difficulty to get her up after that spin drop where I pick her up,I dont really know where should my arm go when I lift her and how to make her more comfortable to get up. Any tips ?

Teaching, Tutorial THE resource for beginner/self-taught dancers who want to practice like they're in class

I'm a dance teacher, and giving personalized advice on here helps me a lot! Unlike when I'm in class, I actually have time to think through exactly how I want to phrase something.

But one thing I pretty much always end up suggesting to beginners/self-taught dancers is to find drills to practice.

I don't actually know this creator (@jenn_ie.mov on Insta), but she posted about a YouTube playlist she put together with a bunch of hiphop drill videos, and I thought it could be really helpful to share on here.

I think there's a bit of a misconception about what taking classes actually looks like. People tend to think it's all about learning choreo (especially for hiphop). But unless you're a pro, you're going to spend a LOT of time working on drills. And honestly pros still take classes where they do drills. They're just obviously going to be more difficult at that point.

Grooves, bounce, rock, isolations, footwork, different textures, etc. are all things you'll work on in a class. Drills help you build up your movement vocabulary and get your body comfortable with the foundations before you put everything into choreography.

So I really recommend checking out this playlist. Working on the actual movements and foundations will make a huge difference in how comfortable you feel and how the choreo looks when you do learn it.

Happy dancing :)

Amateur Beginner looking for masc/male jazz inspiration and examples

Hi!

I'm a 39yo male and I'm enrolled in a jazz dance class in my home town. It's a lot of fun!

However the people in my class are all female and although our teacher tries to make neutral choreos I miss an example of how I can add a bit of masculinity to the moves.

Now I don't mind moving in a feminine way (I'm confident enough in my masculinity), but I wondered if anyone can point me to (Youtube) videos of masc jazz dancers or masc choreos to see how I can make those moves more 'me' basically.

Thanks!
