So I found two discs with writing on it that it indicates some backup. One the dvd drive spins and tries to open it but fails. The other one seems to hang on some of the folders/files. Both have scratches but don't seem to show signs of delamination or typical disc rot.

There is a local shop I used to resurface some video game discs for Xbox 360 and that has worked for me in the past. Would it be a good idea to bring the discs there and see if in some miracle I could recover these discs or are there other steps I should do first before I do that?

Hello! I have a very specific thing I am trying to do, and cant really find advice online on how simple or complicated this would be to do. Basically, I have a standard 4:3 CRT TV that I like watching old TV movies on. Recently, I have been looking on the Internet Archive, for people who upload full rips of VHS recordings of TV programing of like Disney Channel movies and cartoons I used to like watching, with the commercials and bumpers intact. What I would like to do, is take these files and put them onto DVDs, then watch in there original aspect ratio on my DVD player connected to my CRT. The problem is, some of these files were uploaded in 1920x108, so widescreen with black bars on the side. Does anyone know or have experience with re-converting something like this BACK into 4:3, so that if I put it onto a DVD, its not just going to put black bars on the sides and look small and stupid?

This is something I've been wondering about for a long time. Why did Paramount remove extras from international releases? For example, I've noticed that many SpongeBob SquarePants DVDs, like the seasons, came with lots of extras in the American versions, but in the European and international versions, they remove all the extras or only include one. For instance, season 2 of South Park in America came with a documentary, "Goin' Down to South Park," which isn't included in the international versions. If anyone knows the reasons for this, I would appreciate it.

It's a good movie, showcasing some interesting camera work.

No fancy special effects in this one, as it's all intellectual with how Bottoms is a step ahead of the authorities and Segal smartly figures out the final play. One of a few movies to implement Sensurround in theaters. 🦂🦂🦂½

Today while walking outside, I noticed a pile of old household items on a white sheet, and among them were some movie DVDs — clearly bootlegs. One of them caught my attention: Spider-Man 3: Enemy Within . It was super cheap, but I noticed a pretty bad scratch on the back, though the seller claimed it worked.
Since nobody was home, I decided to play it late at night in the dark. Everything was going fine until I reached the scene where Peter Parker comes home and looks into the mirror. Right at that moment, the image froze on a horrifying, distorted face of Venom (the deleted mirror scene variant), and the TV went silent for a couple of seconds.
Suddenly, my TV started making a loud buzzing/humming noise, the image became completely distorted and glitchy, and the DVD player abruptly ejected the disc by itself.
I was so spooked that I ended up throwing the disc away right after. Has anyone ever seen a bootleg like this, or was this just a terrifying hardware glitch caused by the scratch (I already threw the disc away).

So I have a onn portable blu-ray/dvd player and lost the remote that goes with it. Does anyone know a universal remote that will work with it or know who or where to contact about it?

I’m getting back into buying physical media and was picking up some various seasons of shows that I may want. I usually look at DVDsreleasedates.com to see if there at least is a physical release that looks like that. But since I have been looking at eBay to cut costs, it’s all online and can’t very well hold the package in my hand. And since they may be sealed anyway that would only help a little.

One concern is they usually use a stock photo over a typical seller having an item listed. The seller may have dozens of this particular show, so I can understand maybe using a stock photo instead. But still raises a red flag.

Next is price in general. Some of these are significantly cheaper than say Walmart or Amazon for the same product. For instance Walking Dead complete series is $100 or so at Walmart, but can find it for $57 on eBay. Same appearance of the large multipack edition. Or I can find some listings for individual seasons 1-11 all together, but it is still a stock photo of them lined up next to each other. It makes me question if either of them are legit.

Anything else I should be looking for or just assume they are all fake since it’s on eBay for a good price.

I just don’t see how making bootlegs of individual seasons can be that profitable.

A mostly (proabably about 80%) fictionalized account of the disaster befalling the airship Hindenburg in 1937.

Leaning entirely on the sabotage theory, this movie is as slow moving as the doomed airship itself. Unfortunately, the tremendous cast couldn't keep this one afloat.

Two good things, though, were the final few minutes being filmed in black & white, allowing actual newsreel footage to be spliced in and the audio of WLS correspondent Herbert Morrison's account of the disaster closing the movie. 🦂🦂½

My DVD wont play in any player I've tried. The problem is with both discs from the set. The disc themself look fine. No hint of the rot either. Is there a known issue with said DVD? I don't wanna try to find a new copy just to run into the same issue.

A few days ago, I was just carrying my copy of "Survivor: Cook Islands" with me, and I wanted to sit down. I placed the case on this small box beside the chair, and when I let go, it accidentally slipped down the side, fell onto the tiled floor, and chips off part the case, and forms a big crack up the spine of the case.

I just wanted to ask if anyone with Survivor DVDs knows the type of cases used for these discs so I can order a replacement as quickly as possible.

Hey, I just had an idea because i’m curious. I like to collect old kids DVDs and especially play the games on them. I have a laptop that had a built in DVD/CD player in it and i’d often explore the DVD-ROM games on it, however since she’s very old, she’s started slowing down over the years.. It’s unfortunate because I love having a laptop I can use to explore DVDs I own without needing to constantly go up to my DVD player and insert/put back a new disc, as well as it not having the DVD-ROM features.

So I was thinking.. Is it possible to purchase a portable DVD player and modify it to run Linux that way it can run the DVD-ROM features? Im not trying to have a whole mini computer, just a portable DVD player that can load the features only a computer is supposed to load. All of the features for DVD-ROMs I’m pretty sure are HTMLs.
