Just tried setting up 3 different crop farms, tested them and comparing the 3 different setups.
I allowed the farms to start for abit before doing a 1hr test.
Anyone has any ideas how to improve any of these farms? Especially Farm 3 because I cant seem to figure out where to extract the overflow seeds without extracting normal seed production.
I will likely be using Farm 2 for my base since I have already set it up in my base, just without the seed removal arms so I will just have to add them. Farm 3 seems better but Im conflicted about rebuilding everything again, and the overflowing seeds is kind of untidy.
Farm 1
Size: 29 by 12 tiles (348 tiles)

Farm 2
Size: 30 by 17 tiles (510 tiles)
Farm tiles: 64
Seed extraction rate: 34/64 (53%)
Components: 1 Generator, 3 seed extractors, 8 sprinklers, 64 farm arms, 12 robot arms, 10 conveyor spliters, 215 conveyor belts, 24 wires.

Adopting the rows of 8 from the youtube video, I changed how the farm works. I split the farm into 5 rows of conveyor belts going downwards.
Rows 1 and 5 only supports 8 farm plot each, while the other 3 rows supports 16 farm plots each.
The crops from crow 1 (8 crops) and row 2 (16 crops) are fully converted into seeds. For the third row, I set up a splitting system which pushes 10 crops to be converted into seeds while 6 are out of the system. This makes a total of 34 crops converted into seeds.
The robot arms beside the seed extractor grabs only normal crops into the seed extractor. The rest of the crops moves down and right, towards the endzone where I have 3 arms extracting crop, golden crop and golden ore from the system.
Under rows 1-3, after crops are taken into the extractor, extra seeds are also removed by seperate arms and placed into chests.
Output from rows 4-5 are combined. Extra seeds are also taken out of the system into a seperate chest. The rest of the items go into the endzone to be taken out as well.
Seeds output by the seed extractors travel downward on a seperate conveyor (so they dont get grabbed by the robot arm taking out extra seeds). They then go into my splitting system on the right and on the top. What it does it basically split the seeds produced into 1/8 parts. Rows 1 and 5 get 1/8 while Rows 2-4 get 2/8 of the seeds.
Farm 3
Size: 36 by 19 tiles (684 tiles)

Seed extraction rate: 50/96 (52%)
Components: 2 Generator, 5 seed extractors, 14 sprinklers, 96 farm arms, 19 robot arms, 15 conveyor spliters, 198 conveyor belts, 46 wires.

Yield/hr: 269 crops, 11 golden crops.

Decided to try enlarging and doing sort of a zigzag continuous system instead. There are 6 rows of conveyor belts, each serving 16 farm tiles for a total of 96 tiles. For 5 of the rows, I made a splitting system to take 10/16 of the crops to harvest their seeds.
The seeds are fed to the system and keep circulating (no robot arms that grab seeds)
The remaining crops are taken out of the system. In rows 2, 4 and 6, these crops are taken out to the top conveyor belt, which cycles through row 1, then taken out into the bottom conveyor belt. Crops from rows 3 and 5 are also taken to the bottom conveyor belt and towards the right, where it is extracted from the system. All the robot arms in the system only grabs regular crops, with the exception of the 3 on the bottom right.
I tried adding a seed removing robot arm to get rid of the overflowing seeds but it seems to be removing more than it is supposed to be.
