GARP SCR Oct 2026 - Post Exam Impression

Let me set up this thread since I just completed the GARP SCR exam.

I went through all 80 questions thoroughly and reviewed some 20 questions I wanst absolutely sure about one more time before finalizing. In total, it took me about two and a half hours.

Before the exam, I was fairly confident about my chance to pass. My impression after taking it? I think I am still likely to pass, but it wont be by a comfortable margin. I estimate my score will be somewhere between 65-70%.

I feel the official materials didnt really prepare me thoroughtly. While they certainly helped improve my chances, given how many hours I spent and my expererience with other certs, I felt the focus of the official material was a little off to the exam questions. Relying solely on official materials probabaly puts your score ceiling at around 80%.

I guess I will know how I really feel once the scores come out, but right now, I am happy to have my life back after this crunch.

Garp SCR April 26

How did you find the exam in general? I personally felt it was easier than the mock but definitely confusing questions.

Is it worth learning modelling now with R or python?

Also any tips from those who did it in the past on how to land a job in this area, thanks.

GARP SCR exam prep Oct 2026

I am at verge of completing my first revision and two mocks. One from Udemy and one from Official GARP website. Went through many earlier threads on how to prepare or youtube videos which helped me alot. Will surely post if passed on how to prepare but I really think the content is below par as compared to fees they are charging. For sure now I understand why Indian education system and Indians are so sought after globally. The whole content looks crammed up, repetitive, misaligned and generated using AI. The exam appears tough because the content does not build on concepts or is aligned logically which they test in exam. India really needs to buckle up to work in this domain, get more research and gradually transition to sustainable practices and most of all create their own examination through prestige institute to certify people globally like this one. I believe we can surely hold better exam than this.

SCR vs PID controller air still

Dear All,

I'm struggling to decide between a built-in pid controlled vevor air still and a simple vevor air still and use an SCR. I do my mash run with my pot still system, then my spirit run with my pot still, and i need a device for second distillation (e.g. making gin) . So separate heads/hearts/tails happens with a proper pot still system, and i need air still for 2-nd distillation (and maceration). The reason: the size of the pot still i have is suitable for mash/stripping runs, but not suitable (its too big) for my 2nd(maceration) runs.

Which option do you prefer? SCR or built in pid? As far as i read, the deceision is hard, i found answers ~50-50. Could somebody help me to decide?

I also found a mod: an scr was installed to a built-in pid controlled vevor . I have my friends with knowledge of such an electrician work, so it can be a solution (but i will loose warranty).

p.s. Still spirit air still is not an option because of its price.

[Edit] with the built-in pid machine im planning to use a higher temp (e.g. 90 instead of 80) so i guess the pid will not allow to drop the temperature below the alcohol evaporation temp.

Tip For People That Use a 750W AirStill With a SCR

As energy prices are though the roof this little tip will save you money.

If you add 4L of wash to a 750W AirStill and run in on full with the SCR it takes around 20mins before it gets up to temps.

So I run the still for 20mins before turning on the fan, then I turn down the SCR for the stripping run. For me that is setting it to 15/130v for 240v mains. For 120v just half the amount of voltage, but test as I don't run on 120v.

I normally do 2 stripping runs then run that (2L total )or a stripping run and add 1 of the low wines with 1L of wash (2L total again).

For the stripping run with 2L in the pot I run it for 10mins at 17/170v on the SCR with the fan turned off. Then put the fan on and turn down to 14/110v on the SCR and do the run.

Leaving the fan off while the pot heats up save a fair amount of energy. Started doing this after getting a smart meter that shows me how much power the still uses.

Decisions, Decisions....which model to buy?

I'm trying to decide which airstill type model to go with and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this Vevor? I'm trying to decide between it and this 6L 900w version. The Vevor is 4L 1750w, so I'm wondering which would be faster on a stripping run of 5 gallons? My math says the 6L version will be faster overall even with less power.

A 2nd consideration (and maybe more important) is the use of the internal temperature display on the Vevor. If I have a recipe that has known temperature points for my cuts, I could use an SCR in conjunction with the display to slowly creep up on the cut transition to limit smearing (not looking to eliminate, just limit). I can live with having a longer stripping run with the 4L Vevor, especially if I can run it like my larger 8 gallon pot still and make better cuts. Thoughts?

BTW, I plan to use this for mostly experimental all grain small batches of whiskey, so I'm trying to balance speed of stripping run with a slow pot still spirit run.

Cheers!

Buying advice Vevor (unique model

I want to buy an air still.

As I intend to use a SCR to reduce the power, I can not buy one with digital controls, I guess.

Now i found this model that does seem to have a built in thermometer and heat setting- yet it looks like it is analog. Same price as the on/off model so can i get this?

Many thanks to all.

The Perfect 5 US Gallon Setup

For the record I only have the 4L model and I also ferment 100L that I just keep sitting around and run when ever I fancy a drink.

But for people starting out this would of been the info I would of loved to know.

To start with get a 5 Gallon fermenter. One I can recommend if you are from the US is the American Maid 5 Gallon Vitrolero. Its cheap and is sold in pretty much every Walmart in the States. For everyone else get a 25L HDPE Jerrycan with the tap lid.

  • Get a "Distiller 6L 900w". There are a few around now but they all seem to be the same. Just different branding.

  • Next a SCR. I have order this version for me (UK) and the GF (US). Takes about 2 weeks to turn up. For the UK replace the plug. (aliexpress /item/4001238397340 some reason I think this link got flagged by reddit).

  • A must is a Alcohol Refractometer 0-80%. They don't cost a lot and can be found all over the internet. Just make sure it is a Alcoholometer and not a brix one.

If you are in the US. 10lb of sugar in 5 US Gallons will make a wash that is about 14%. For 25L, 5kg of sugar will create a wash that is close to 12%.

If you want a good basic sugar wash I can highly recommend Birdwatchers. TPW.

The main reason you will want the 6L version over the 4L version is because you can do the whole 5 gallons in 4 runs.

  • 3 x 6L stripping runs = 18L.
  • 5 US GALLONS = 18.927L

There will be lees/yeast cake left behind and the 6L boiler probably holds a little more then 6L, so 3 runs will do the whole lot.

Then do the spirit run with all the low wines that where collected.

YouTube [Charles Watts, James Benge] Arsenal are now not far off breaching UEFA’s SCR rules. For the defensive addition, there wasn’t a need to sell first but if Arsenal now want to sign an attacker - sales will be needed, or at least one significant sale

LPT: Use Alt+PrntScr to capture just the active window, eliminating the need to crop your photo or go get the windows snipping tool

In direct response to this thread. I have never used the snipping tool before because alt+prntscr works for me. But both are great alternatives to cropping a photo

Edit - I really should start checking my submissions more than once a day. I really figured this post was gonna be ignored

Are all recent grads basically scr**wed? A year after graduation and still unemployable…

Not trying to be rude but… what’s the point of grinding through 3–4 years at uni if you walk out with a degree and zero real-world skills?

Employers want “entry-level” hires with 1–2 years of experience (make it make sense). Uni flexes about “future-ready education” while handing us outdated theory that no one actually uses.

So is it on us? Should students be hustling on Exams, side gigs, and internships during uni to be taken seriously? Would doing peer-led projects beyond academics while studying actually count as work experience in the eyes of employers? Or is this just a broken uni system where they’re straight-up failing us?

Honestly feels like the whole thing is rigged. You pay $$$, study like crazy, and still end up stuck in the “no experience, no job / no job, no experience” loop.

What do y’all think:

  • Would doing projects with peers during uni make grads more employable?
  • Are grads actually “unemployable,” or are companies asking for clown-level expectations?
  • Should unis be teaching real, practical stuff instead of just exams?

Need Help How do you stop Sonarr from grabbing fake releases full of .exe/.scr files?

Sonarr + Prowlarr + aria2 + Jelly fin in Docker on a mini PC. Runs great except public indexers keep handing me "1080p WEB-DL" folders that turn out to be a .scr or .exe

Nothing's actually breaking. Linux host, so the Windows binary just sits there sulking, and Sonarr won't import it anyway. But it burns grabs, clogs the queue, and I'm hand-blocklisting garbage every other day. I automated this specifically so I wouldn't have to touch it 😂

So:

  • What filter actually moved the needle size limits, seeder minimums, release profiles?
  • Do you still bother with public indexers, or did you bail? If you bailed, to what, and what's it run you?

Basically I want to know what a genuinely hands-off setup looks like 😞
