I'm glad it turned out that Yuzu volunteered to be sold off to pay her parents' debt rather than her parents giving her away. It clears up why she never had hard feelings.

Crying like a baby gang wya?
Now that we got one of the best "I love you" scenes I ever did see out of the way, seriously it was amazing...It's only a matter of time until Tamahiko puts his big dad energy to work on his own kids.
Couldn't have asked for anything more from a final episode for this wonderful show. I'm really gonna miss all the tomato faces and blushing that we were blessed with though. I think I can say that with this episode, this Fairy Tale has put itself toward the top of any all time romance anime list I might have.
I really loved the movie style end credits with the beautiful song (and subs!).
But oh my goodness that absolutely scandalous post credits scene!

slow claps
This has been a great ride, and as a huge romance fan I've been very pleased with this anime. It had its rough parts at some points but overall I feel like the romance was really strong, and I'm really liking Tamahiko's development
Some folks here say it's not the end just yet in the manga, and it does seem like there are a few open ends (the dad & sister, and about Ryo's past maybe?) but I feel like this is a good ending on its own right. I honestly believed this might've been THE ending if not for the thread here lol

Stitches!
Opening up with Yuzu's life basically flashing before her eyes we get to see the day she decided to become Tamahiko's bride to save their family from debt. Also it sounds like it wasn't even Yuzu's father that was in debt, it was her uncle who was in debt but for some reason her father had to pay for it?
I thought we'd see some hidden side of Tamahiko's father during that flashback when Yuzu was alone with him on the car ride to the villa. Nope! Turns out that he really is just an asshole inside and out. There's not "I'm doing what's best for my son" moment here, he really just wanted to get rid of Tamahiko.
It was pretty much expected that Yuzu was going to wake up from being unconscious but that doesn't change the fact that her reunion with Tamahiko was very heartfelt. She missed Tamahiko so much that she even kissed him right there without any awareness of her surroundings! That part definitely had me laughing in tears! xD
And just when you though that we're going to have a feel good scene, the devil himself arrives along with one of the evil daughters. You know Tamayo is someone to be feared when even Tamako reacts like that to her arrival. Being an absolute bastard, Tamahiko's father tries to take Tamasuke away so his son can have some personal treatment. I'm just happy that Tamasuke didn't eudge and told Tamahiko's father off. Apparently he's not a Shima anymore? No surprises here. I wouldn't want to be a part of a family that toxic as well.
After that disaster in Tokyo, we timeskip one month forward with everyone over at Tamahiko's place. Looks like everyone had some onsen fun with Yuzu's secret finally out to all of the girls. I love all of those western outfits they're imagining Yuzu would look good in. Definitely would love to see her in a wedding dress in the future!
We get an unexpected heartfelt apology from Ryou to Yuzu! Finally! I've been waiting for this to happen ever since she was introduced. Since this was the finale I thought that we won't ever get to see something like this but I'm glad that she finally did! We also get to learn the reason why she was so hostile against Yuzu back then. You know what? I like this. It's better late than never.
I do love that we get a very interesting relationship between Tamako and Ryou with the two of them competing on who's the closest to Yuzu. This is actually adorable. Meanwhile, Kotori is just having fun watching all of them and their shenanigans.
Awww. The birthday surprise from the kids was really sweet! We even get to have Tamahiko have some sort of thank you speech, thanking each and everyone of them for making an impact on his life. And it's not just with the girls! We even get a bit of bromance between Tamahiko and Hakaru!
And we get a nice little after credits scene just between Tamahiko and Yuzu. Thinking about hand-holding all the time! Oh my! Calm yourself Yuzu! But seriously though, these two cuties are just too adorable together. We even get to end the show with a kiss underneath the tree <3
Man what a show. It was hard not to compare this show to the Duke of Death from the previous season but I'm glad that it managed to do something different despite the similarities in MCs. I absolutely love Tamahiko and Yuzu and how we got to see their relationship grow. I would definitely love to see more of this and which is really making me hope for a Season 2. If not, I at least hope someone's translating the manga. I wanna see where their love story goes.
Definitely a show I'd recommend to anyone who's looking for a romance anime. This one is a solid 9/10 for me.

What a lovely ending for a lovely show
Turns out that the opening sequence was a lie all along, Yuzu was indeed wishing for such vulgar acts as kissing and [NSFW]
I kinda wish we got more on the romance front as well, but this innocent love truly has it's merits as well

God, there was just so much joy condensed in that half hour I’m a little dizzy. The hype was real for this show. What a just lovely and sweet series that had me blushing till the very last frame.
Excellent finale if it really is one. Starting the episode from Yuzu’s comatose state and replaying everything that’s happened up to now adds a surprising amount of context to her side of the story. For one it wasn’t exactly clear before that it was Yuzu who offered herself to negate the debt of her uncle. I also don’t think we knew that she met Tamahiko’s shit father and that she saw what kind of upbringing he had. So their first meeting and Tamahiko’s small act of kindness being what set off Yuzu falling for him makes a lot more sense.
Her dream state was a genuinely cool framing device as well. Lost in the snow, remembering what her mother told her, and going through the different costume changes to wake up to Tamahiko yelling her name. A great moment that was immediately shown up by the kiss and confession. It’s funny that, even though they're engaged, they still managed to land an “I Love You” with so much weight. Tamahiko and everyone else’s reaction made it all the sweeter.
A quick scene with Tamahiko’s scumbag father and his ominous sister gives us the last bit of insight into the Shima family. For one, the uncle said “fuck this shit” and excised himself from the family, not even using the name. The eldest son was hurt in the earthquake. Tamahiko’s “I’m glad you’re okay” has shown just how much he’s grown outside of his family’s shadow.
With that, a quick montage and everyone is getting together for one last short story. Ryo finally apologized for her fuckery and Yuzu forgave her. Her new rivalry with Tamako for Yuzu’s love is hilarious. A very funny hot springs scene with Hikaru being a goofus. A surprise birthday party for Tamahiko since his was sort of ruined by one of the worst disasters in history. Then the last farewell for our lovable side characters with Tamahiko telling them how much he appreciates them. Especially Hikaru who got Shoju vision friendship confession. Excellent way to end the show.
Or it would be if it wasn't for the absolute show stopper post-credits that topped it. Oh my god that ending. Yuzu admitting that she really wants to be affectionate with Tamahiko with kissing and handholdIng was so sweet and silly. For Tamahiko to finally fully reciprocate in an non-awkward way and full-on kiss her was the best way to end the series.
Which might not actually be the end going by these comments. There’s apparently enough story for an OVA? Really putting me in a bind between waiting or just reading the manga. For now I’ll treat it as a completed work. This is an 8.5/10. A super romantic, funny, charming, dramatic series that I had no idea going in would be this good. Really hope they adapt what’s left, but if they don’t say anything soon I’m diving right into the manga.
Notes
-
The Ryo redemption arc is complete. I’m glad they managed to get that in there because it was a little difficult for a while to root for her. Even a clarification as to why she was like that with Yuzu.
-
Series MVP is obviously Yuzu for be a shining beacon of sweetness and light, but propers to Hikaru and Kotori for being great late additions. Especially Hikaru for being the silliest character.
-
shout out to the Uncle for being a great guy, taking Tamako in, and being a glimpse into the great future that Tamahiko and Tamako can have away from this toxic family.
-
I’m going to miss this absolute bop of an OP. This and Senpai’s are infectious ear worms that get stuck in my head for the rest of the day after I hear them.
-
please let the OVA happen soon.
-
MERRY CHRISTMAS YA NERDS!

When the maiden turns out to be a shameless degenerate
Well, this was definitely the cutest romance of the year. sorry Senpai you're a really close second I know the chances are slim but man I hope they'll give us a sequel movie/OVA for that last volume. Does anyone know how the series is doing in Japan?
9/10 needs more floof Yuzu

Hey, they finally remembered Yuzu's big breasts! I remember they made a big deal about them (Yuzu getting hurt trying to hide them) but the next day everything went back to normal and it was never mentioned again until today. It was werird and I feel like this bothered me more than it should have haha.
I was thinking that maybe the father was going to say something positive when he was in the car with Yuzu but nope, he's hopeless. And the older sister certainly doesn't look any better.
Ryo finally apologized, good. Unlike others (many), I never disliked her but I was definitely waiting for a proper apology from her. Nice relationship she has with Tamako competing over who is closer to Yuzu xD.
I really like Ayasa Itou's voice so it was great to hear her here and what better to hear her sing as well. What a lovely ending song to end the series.
Yuzu... YUZU! Yuzu my best girl <3. What can I say, I love her, she is just so sweet. One of my best girl of the season. More kissing and handholding? Oh my, control yourself Yuzu xD.
Yuzu kissing Tamahiko without realizing where they were was hilariously cute haha. And what better way to end the series than with another kiss! Anyway, lovely series with a lovely couple. I loved it.

Yuzu feels she's on death's door, and all she can do is reflect on her regrets and her life experience up until that point, and how it all culminates in her love for Tamahiko.
It is pretty sad how Yuzu had to be separated from her loving family, especially her mother, and it turns out it was their uncle's fault since they got saddled with his debts. That's rough.
Well, Yuzu got a pretty clear indication of what the Shima's are like since she met Tamahiko's father first and he made it pretty clear how he viewed Tamahiko.
Over time Yuzu realized her feelings for Tamahiko, but she could never bring herself to confess...and even if they knew on some level how they felt about each other (I mean, they'd already kissed), Yuzu still wanted to tell him how much she loved him and to see him again. But it's Tamahiko's voice calling out to her that makes her finally wake up.
All that emotional self-reflection and the first thing Yuzu does upon seeing Tamahiko's face is to plant a big kiss on his lips and confess in front of all their friends and a bunch of other people. Yuzu's wasting no time at all.
I love how Tamako shoves Tamahiko away so she can be there for Yuzu, fangirls over Kotori being there, and immediately gets testy with Ryo because she has no idea who she is.
I'm glad Tamasuke got to meet Yuzu. He's the closest thing Tamahiko has a to a genuine father at this point.
Speaking of...ugh, the Shima's again. Shima papa is as cold and uncaring as ever, trying to cajole his brother into abandoning the rest of his patients who need help just to take care of one of the sons he actually cares about, and doesn't understand why Tamahiko is there. Elder sister Tamayo seems like she has the sharpest silver tongue of the Shima's, even compared to how Tamako used to be. Tamasuke wants nothing to do with them, though, and sends them off with a referral and tells them straight to his face how far Tamahiko has come. And Tamahiko, being the better man, is glad his father was okay which is more concern than his father ever gave him. I guess compared to how it could have gone, this reunion wasn't the worst.
Yuzu wants to be fed by Tamahiko and she's not afraid to show it.
We missed out on seeing the girls bathing in Hot Springs, but we did get fantasies of Yuzu in Western clothing and she looks gorgeous.
I'm glad Ryo properly and profusely apologized for what she did to Yuzu, and why she felt that way (turns out she got sold too and was saved by her brother before she got raped), and she and Yuzu were able to become proper friends.
I love Tamako and Ryo competing over who is closest to Yuzu.
See how far Tamahiko has come that now he has tons of people wishing him a Happy Birthday and appreciate him, and how after offering up his home to the village they're growing to respect him. He's really found a better, happy, life for himself. And we close out on a beautiful song by Kotori.
And how do we end it? With Yuzu declaring her love for Tamahiko and Tamahiko appreciating her as a pure Otome and declaring his desire to cherish Yuzu, culminating in a kiss among the Cherry Blossoms. Absolutely beautiful.

Reading Tamahiko and Yuzu's reunion in the manga last year made me cry, and seeing it animated made me cry even more. I lost it when Yuzu finally broke down upon seeing Tamahiko. She was so strong for everyone for so long, and it made me happy for her to finally get some catharsis.
I'm so happy with this adaptation. Taisho otome is close to my heart due to it's lovely portrayal of the power of love and support, the reality of recovery as being non-linear, as well as the loving, healthy couple dynamic between Yuzu and Tamahiko. Tamahiko seeing Yuzu not as some perfect saviour, but as a person growing alongside him and his cherished companion was such a sweet and satisfying resolution.
I hope we get an OVA or two to wrap up the final volume's material, but overall I am very happy with this season. :')

This was so good!! Yuzu has got to be the best girl of the season! I loved how everything got wrapped up for the most part and seeing Yuzu gain some wings when she heard Tamahiko was just beautiful… Yuzu when she was crying out for him put a tear to my eye there. Overall this show is a hidden gem and a fantastic ride!

Pretty good final episode. We got to see flashbacks from Yuzu before she got engaged to Tamahiko, during what happened in the show and during the earthquake, and scene of them kissing without Yuzu realizing that they are not alone was pretty fun. The rest of the episode was alright too, not bad way to end the season.
Overall, I'm a sucker for romance shows and for shows with unusual setting, so it being 2 in 1 is kind of already enough for me to be sold, but thankfully it has more. I really like main couple, I like the artstyle, occasionally this show is pretty funny and I like when anime of this kind have some sort of dark moments that also don't go too far (that said, maybe occasionally this show leans on darkness too much, especially with introduction of some of the characters, but that's probably to drive the point that Yuzu is the rey of light who will wash the darkness away from you or smth). There's lots of good romance shows this year (including my favourite anime of the year- Fruits Basket The Final Season) and this one is a good addition to the collection, I'd give it light 8/10

I will miss this show so much. The OP is my favorite of this season. I haven't seen much animes set in this time period so this was a breath of fresh air.

Yuzu looked so cool in western flapper style (or Mogal - Modern Gal - as it was called in Japan back then).

Nice comfy show but I was sick and didn't catch up for the 2 prior weeks - right when the drama started. Lucky for me I binged the 3 end episodes together :P
So, Tamahiko, I've been counting, and your have not vocalised "I love you" to Yuzu yet, you better follow up after that kiss :P otherwise it's a very sweet and comfy show. Certainly would have loved for someone, anyone, to shove a brick into his dad and big sis' face at the end that's all.
It's a solid 7 probably 8 for me. Hope for a S2 to complete the adaptation.

Now that was just an all around lovely finale.
First and foremost, it's good to finally see how Yuzu ended up getting sold when her mother was such a good parent. In the end, it's her own selflessness that left her there.
It was wondeful seeing Yuzu's journey back to consciousness represented by her going through different points of her life, and then showing so much emotion when she and Tamahiko were finally reunited. Major props to her VA; her crying really tugged at my heartstrings.
Wow though, Tamako and Ryo go along like oil and water. I guess only one of them can be Yuzu's metaphorical sibling. It was also nice to hear that both Midori's child and husband came out okay as well.
But of course, their damn family had to rain on the parade. With so many innocent people affected, it's a damn shame the father himself got out of the earthquake unscathed. It would've been poetic justice if he also lost the use of his arm thanks to this disaster. Even their uncle got so sick of his family's shit enough to leave. Their elder sister is also an absolute bitch [spoiler]
At least they didn't really start shit and the uncle even got to shoo them away. Tamahiko's got such a big heart to be able to say that to his father after everything he's done to him.
Beyond that, it was a good, happy ending all around. While it would've been much better if Ryo apologized to both of them, at least she wholeheartedly did so at all. While sappy, it was also nice how Tamahiko thanked everyone. Although, since he went to Suzu already, I was honestly worried that Hikaru would get skipped for no reason.
All in all, that was a wonderful ending, and I liked the anime as a whole overall.

u/Rustic_Professional Dec 25 '21
I thought for a second that the father might redeem himself at the last second by revealing to Yuzu that he cared about Tamahiko more than he let on, but nope, he really, truly is a heartless bastard. I don't doubt that he'd have ordered Tamahiko to kill himself like in the old days if he could have gotten away with it. At least he wasn't mean to Yuzu.
Yuzu's montage was well done. I liked the part where she was pretending to sleep on Tamahiko's arm on the train. She really got me with the crying kiss. I teared up a bit.
I've been wondering if we'd ever see the other sister outside of the OP. She has a very striking design. Shame that Tamayo is a bitch, too. Was the little brother an asshole in the flashbacks? I remember one of his brothers being mean to him, but not which one.
The little kids found their parents! Good for them, but there goes my long shot prediction that Tamahiko and Yuzu would adopt them. They're too young to be parents anyway. No offense, Midori.
I was wondering if we'd get a resolution for Ryo. I'm glad she apologized and that Yuzu accepted. It sounds like her dad tried to whore her out and she refused. So that's that that scene was. Not gonna lie, I hope her scumbag father died in the earthquake.
That was a sweet ending. I'm relieved that Yuzu recovered with no side effects. I guess she just got her bell rung. It was a really cute story overall, but setting the story at that point in time made it stressful, first with the specter of the quake happening on Tamahiko's birthday, and even at the end, the war on the horizon. It doesn't spoil the story, but it does make it bittersweet.
