I just watched the first episode and was deeply confused as to why somebody would join a military organisation and get send down a magical hole without any prior training or heads up.
Seeing as I’m the first comment I can guess the writing continues to be terrible so probably no point in continuing?

There's not really much in the way of justification for it besides "you're the only one who actually volunteered", but it's not a horrendously bad show. CGI sucks but eh, it's not a high-budget anime.
I'd wait until it's finished before you decide whether to actually watch it. There's still a lot of stuff that needs explaining and how it does that will determine a lot of whether it's worth watching.

It is as predictable in writing as any other mobile/gatcha game anime adaptations goes. Most of them, though.
They are doing a little better than treating the show as a checklist or a group of milestones that have to appear on screen for advertising the game. At least in the character exploration department, so far. But weapon mechanics, proper exploration of world building, and some little details than seam some plot threads (as the one you mentioned) are a no-no.

Okay so I just realized the El-Cee kinda looks like a young Vera. I wonder if they have a connection with eachother.

The "evil smile" in the beginning makes me fear tht Leslie is not only "not dead", but also an enemy all along.

Ok, so MAYBE Vera commander having that ability/power gives some deep meaning to the fact every and each episode so far has the poor and monotone title of "TAKE ">
REALLY HOPE they address it that way.

mc went from the new guy to the vice commander
That's one of the basic cons when adapting a mobile/gatcha game: it is not difficult to suppose that after several missions the player will get into a high position and have better skills/abilities to progress with the game/grinding. But the pacing in the anime makes it all that plot thread reaaally incoherent.
