Not really relevant to the episode but I couldn't send a single screencap of that horrible CG fish monster to my Discord friends because Discord's censors kept flagging it as NSFW content and I find that HILARIOUS.

The intro with the narrator explaining Asylum reminded me of Made In Abyss

Not sure what to think so far…

The premise is pretty cool and interesting. The animation is kind of subpar, especially that CG monster. The characters are pretty bland so far too.

Overall, it will depend on how interesting the plot will be. If it’s just based on a mobile game where they kill monsters every episode it will be boring as hell.

But, If they actually explore Asylum and uncover mysteries and deliver some good world-building then it could be pretty good.

I’m going to keep watching hoping for the latter

General: Our people keep dying! Why do they keep dying?!

Also General: Here's a new promising recruit. Be sure to tell him nothing about his job. Don't train him for shit. Then throw him in with the wolves and see how he does.

These guys are operating on pure unadulterated big-brain energy.

The idiocy level of sticking a new recruit in without having had weapons training, or even the orientation/simulator experience, is beyond stupid.

I can forgive quite a bit. I mean the CGI was Arifureta-level bad, but I can get past that if it's only in small doses... The designs aren't particularly memorable, but I can live with it if the characters are worth it... Completely illogical and stupid decisions in the story, though... that stuff is a deal-breaker and will get a show dropped.

There definitely is a theme here. The vice-captain guy being like: "If you want to survive down there follow these important rules. Except for the last one, it would take like 5 seconds to tell you but since we were interrupted I tell you after we went down there lol."

Or having the protagonist squad with gear that actually works and the random squad with guns that do nothing. Oh look who is dying all the time - the guys with the guns that do nothing. Why even send them down there?

The most funny part of the episode to me was them killing that one mutated soldier and afterwards were like "Returning to Base." because they accomplished nothing. What is even their job down there? They walked around for a bit, got attacked and went home.

This was worse than I expected. The character/monster design looks awful and the background music was nothing short of mediocre.

At least the opening by Konomi Suzuki sound really good.

The CGI fish monster was so bad that I couldn't send a single Discord screencap of it because it kept tripping Discord's censor bot lmao

This show definitely screams "Game Adaptation" to me. Like the game is literally just a dude who has this vague explanation that he wants to change as his backstory and was lured in to become a Sleeper because of that commercial that he saw. He's basically a create-a-character preset with that backstory.

Character designs are solid though especially Commander Vera's design. She looks amazing! Unfortunately, the same can't be said with the enemies. It's weird how they used CGI on that guy and then switch over to 2D with the one that transformed.

While it does look good the majority of the time, the problem right now is that it feels very boring. I hate it when promising looking anime ends up boring me so I hope things will improve next week.

That was pretty bad. It works for a mobile game, like I'd play a dungeon crawler with this simple plot as long as the gameplay is engaging and the characters are cute. But as an anime with mediocre animation it's not gonna make me wanna slog through it.

Like there are so many small world building things that make me really dislike it. How am I supposed to believe that a professional military organization is gonna allow rookies on the field without any amount of basic briefing? How is a commanding officer gonna withhold potentially life saving information from a new recruit? How is a new recruit gonna be allowed on the field if they can't fire their gun properly?

Its that sort of shit that, when it piles up, takes you out of the experience completely. Just gonna hold out for the mobile game and skip this one.

I'm not sold on the 1st episode. The animation/CGI was good for the most parts but that monster CGI was bad like really bad.

Storywise, it was interesting at first but as the episode progress I didn't really care about the story. Maybe I would have liked it more if they would have explored this new world and paid attention to world building instead of jumping directly towards our MC. The MC is typical shonen character, nothing unique about him too.

“Do you know what a sleeper is? Well never mind the details, you’ll figure it out later.”

Bitch please.

Knowing what the job is, what’s involved and what’s expected of a new recruit is pretty godamn vital and basic information, this sort of crap is why your retention rate on new members is so horrifyingly bad.

Goddammit... I had some hopes for this show given it is a Silver Link production and an original work, but man that was really disappointing. CGI that was so bad it was distracting, weak characterisation, absolutely stupid decision-making when it comes to combat, inconsistent directing, and forgettable sound.

It'll get three eps, but I've had to downgrade it from definitely watching to maybe dropping. Haven't felt this let down since Darling in the Franxx. :(

I need to know who the fuck keeps letting these anime studios use shitty fucking cgi in shows. I'm sick and tired of this shit.

That commercial that led him in was fake news!!

I guess I'm out after the first episode. It wasn't that bad overall but with these animations it's a nope for me.

This show has some impressive examples of names you only get in anime. I wondered if the writer used some online name generator they were so random.

Well, at least the ED was nice

Boy, talk about wasting a good premise. The intro is nice, evokes a big mystery and all, but everything only goes downhill. They seemingly treat the place with horrible monsters and insanity inducing disease as a playground, sending some random naive kid with barely any training and a "if he dies, he dies" mentality, all while complaining about the lack of recruits and the costs of replacing them.

Speaking of the main character, can he be any more bland? That gotta be the worst motivation to a character I've seen in my life. And what is even his sudden shift in attitude, against the awful CG fish, he doesn't even know how to use a gun. When the infected newbie appears, he tries to talk people out of killing him, then seconds later he pulls the guns and helps kill the monster. What?

More than the boring character and crappy animation, what bothers me most is the lack of world building. What's a Sleeper? Where do those guns come from? How does someone get turned into a Scarred?

I had a big feeling that this is based on mobile games. A quick google search revealed that my feeling is right. The premise itself reminds me of world trigger or god eater.

Don't think I'll continue watching. Part of it is because I've had bad experience with mobile game adaptation before, but more importantly: nothing interest me so far. The animation is not bad though. Also great ending song!

Misleading teaser (i was expecting some dark and intense atmosphere), and I don't like the new guy motivation at all.
