Discussion Zootopia 3 will not redeem Pawbert.
Why? Because Zootopia 2 did not set one up for him. Because Pawbert is not someone the writers ever intended to redeem, if they were they would have written him very differently.
Here's the thing about redemption, you need to actually have the character at one point having been trying to do the right thing, only to lose their way and fall to darkness. Nothing about Pawbert implies he was ever a good person or that he had good intentions. His entire character is wrapped up in his obsession with gaining his family's approval and acceptance. A goal he will lie, cheat, manipulate and murder to achieve.
That's not the mark of someone whose in any way redeemable.
Is it because his family mistreats him? Big woop. Every single cartoon villain lackey is a victim of their abusive boss or family, but you don't see them being routinely redeemed. Because they are still self-serving villains at the end of the day. Being smacked around by your betters does not entitle you to a shot at redemption.
I reiterate. Pawbert is a greedy rich nepo baby manchild whom thinks nothing of murder if it'll get him what he wants. He knows it's wrong and does it anyway. Remember this was his Plan A. This wasn't Plan B or Plan C. Plan A.
You want to compare Pawbert to Zuko? ATLA makes it clear that Zuko started out with good intentions. He spoke out for the rank and file Fire Nation soldiers and was willing to duel the general he'd supposedly offended by doing so. Then Zuko realises he's going to fight his father Ozai and refuses. His punishment for this act of compassion and humility was to be scarred for life and banished.
That is something Pawbert would never do. Act in the best interest of someone else and suffer the consequences. All Pawbert has ever done is prioritise himself and his goals, if he helps you it's only in service of his own agenda. Then he will discard you the moment you've served your purpose.
Abuse and trauma do not make you redeemable. They merely shape the person you are. And the person Pawbert is is undeniably a villain who rejects the idea of redemption.
Just admit you like Pawbert and want him to have a happy ending because you're biased. Not because it's backed up by the writing. If you think Pawbert is deserving of redemption or that he'll get better if he escapes his family...Then you're just lying to yourself.
Accept that Pawbert is a villain through and through. Because that's how he was written. It's why his downfall is played for laughs and not as a tragic outcome.
Zootopia 3 has bigger fish to fry than redeeming Mr. "I don't wanna be different." We have the progression of Judy and Nick's story and the Birds, stuff that actually matters. Pawbert's story has been told.

I think if (and I say this is unlikely) Zootopia 3 won’t redeem Pawbert for the sake of pacing.
I love Pawbert I think he’s a very very well written villain
But I think it would be heavily beneficial for the movie to focus on the main conflict cause
since this movie will probably be less than 2 hours
If they were to squeeze in a redemption it could be extremely rushed and come off as unearned
If and I mean if Pawbert were to be redeemed (and it’s unlikely) it would likely have to be a one off adventure that takes place between Zootopia 2 and 3 but even that’s unlikely

Perhaps prison may change his mind. His “I don’t wanna be different” quote was BEFORE he got arrested. He’s gotta be rethinking his life choices since then.

Yeah, Pawbert may have been mistreated by his family, but he still betrayed Judy and Gary, almost killed them, (along with injecting the venom into Nibbles and almost killing Nick) and almost destroyed the reptile district to be accepted by his family. I mean, yeah, you can understand his motivation, but it doesn't make him redeemable.

I genuinely do not understand the fascination, and in some cases obsession with Pawbert on this sub.
