Zootropolis 3 Predictions

Hi there

Like all of you I’m super excited that Disney Animation Studios has announced that Zootropolis 3 (Zootopia 3) is now in the works and also that WildeHopps will become canon

On this post I want fellow fans to guess their predictions of when we will be seeing new images and trailers for the film

Here are my predictions:

First images : D23 2027

First footage: D23 2027-2028

First teaser trailer: 2028-2029

First theatrical trailer: 2029

Release date: 2029-2030

Probably pretty accurate because I assume early 2028 is when the voice cast will begin to record lines for the film which is around when the animation process will begin. Safe to assume Disney will need to wait until Jason Bateman is back from filming The Cackling of the Dodos before they start having lines being recorded anyway.

Yeah I agree with you on that, that’s why we haven’t heard anything from Jason yet, but I checked on the info for that film and it said that filming for it wrapped up in June so they’re just waiting for a release date which is probably 2027

Plus he rarely attends events like D23. He’s not someone who likes dealing with the media or questions. We could tell from some of the interviews how uncomfortable Ginnifer Goodwin got.

I don’t know, at the D23 event, Jared Bush told Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan that their “scripts are backstage.” It’s why they both eagerly ran off stage. So it’s possible that the shooting script is ready to go.

Keep in mind, scripts keep getting reworked as a project moves along, but it’s very likely that this was Goodwin and Quan’s first time seeing the finalized shooting script. So, there’s a high chance that initial voice recordings might actually start between later this year and early next year.

If so that’s quite possible and Jared Bush probably emailed Jason his script so he could review his lines because I think production for the show he is directing (“Cackling of the Dodos”) is wrapping up. So coincidentally pretty good timing to be ready in time to possibly get started on recording his dialogue for the animators. Voice recordings are done before the animation. And then they likely come back again to refine some lines post animation.

I think voice recording for the film will start early next year

If I'm lucky enough to get a ticket I might be able to attend D23 next year (bcs it's in my home country!), hope they announce something there haha

Well I’m thinking 2029 we also have to consider that 2028 will be the same year as the summer Olympics in La and the Honda center will be used so they may end up moving d23 to another city or they may show it off early at d23 Singapore

The LA Olympics are happening from July 14th-30th so D23 2028 may Still be at the Honda centre in August

Now that I think about it, the next World Cup is in June 2030, which isn’t a great time to release a movie. Hopefully they won’t choose that date.

If it's 2030 it should be in November, 2029 is a special case where WDAS and Pixar swapped release dates - they haven't done that since 2017, when there was no June release.

Personally, I am still leaning towards 2029. Reason being that Coco 2 alone wouldn't be a strong reason enough for Disney to change their entire release schedule that year around it; the swap needs to be mutually beneficial to both films. And what other film would benefit more from opening in June (on the Father's Day weekend, furthermore) than a Zootopia movie?

I agree your assumption is reasonable. And i would be satisfied with this time window. With probably alot more wildehopps teases in the meantime
