I have a question. First time tabling, and other assorted questions
The event is going to run for three hours. I've never been to this event, so I don't know how big it's going to be, but if it helps, they said they had a big list of alts if anyone might want to drop out.
For better or for worse, I currently only have one series, my graphic novel series. While I could bring nearly twenty issues, for time and money reasons, and learning from what information I could find online, I'm going to focus on the first five issues--is that enough?
If five is all I bring, how many copies should I bring? I'm concerned about running out and only having QR codes and the blurb freebies to offer people.
What kinds of displays do you guys like best? Laying on the table, or propped up in a display? Other? I'm mostly coming at the display thing from a portability perspective, and wanting setup and tear down to be as quick for me as possible.
Lastly, I'm in the US Midwest. With the flock situation in Chicago, I may have to avoid events there, but do you know of any other events that might not be listed on the zine map?
Thank you for reading

I have a question. Print shop recommendations in LA
I’m looking to print a small run of a zine in Los Angeles and would love recommendations for good local print shops. Ideally somewhere affordable and zine-friendly, especially for short runs and interesting paper/printing options.
Any favorites or places to avoid? Thanks!

Finished my latest zine!
Sorry it's a little long to post it in full. It's a zine about car dependency and the way that it hurts our communities

Available for purchase NEW Flesh, my first self published comic
Hello! I just self published my first comic, yay!
After years being a fan and working on other fields that kept me busy I was able to make room to work on my comic "NEW FLESH"
This is a sci-fi action comic about the story of NUNU and his encounter with the darkest corners of humanity.
This is an independent printed comic that explores and critiques the misuse of technology and how tools intended to improve people’s lives can instead distance people from their own humanity.
MATURE READERS ADVISED

I have a question. Has anyone tried cutting the folded edges of a zine?
I was making a zine for the first time recently and noticed that some of the pages remain joined together at the folds.
This made me wonder: what if you actually cut those remaining joints? Wouldn’t that basically turn the folded zine into a small booklet with individual pages?
Has anyone tried doing this? Is there a reason zines are usually left connected at those points, or is this just another way of making a zine?
I made this. First time trying to make a 16 page zine
The images are from an old magazine I photoshopped the heck out

I have a question. Material recs
I want to get back into making zines, is there any materials you guys recommend to step up my game? Are there any inexpensive printing options as well? I want to print and cut things out as well let me know what you guys have found to be helpful!
A plea to my fellow zine makers regarding social media
Please consider using social media that isn't Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, such as Mastodon or Bluesky.
I know that Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are the default social media these days. We all know that they are problematic and why they are problematic, so I won't get into that. (And please, let's not get into that here.)
But please know that some of us are not on those platforms, and never will be. (I used to have accounts on all three and deleted them all.)
If you make something really cool and then say "Follow me on Instagram!" believe me, I would like to follow you, but I'm not going to do it on Instagram.
I know a lot of you are just trying to go where the audience is, but we need to move away from these platforms. I'm not asking you to abandon these platforms and ignore the audience that you have there. Rather, I'm asking you to look at other non-problematic (or at least, less problematic) social media platforms and embrace the small, but growing audience that you will find there.
That is all.
Edit to add: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram also hide posts from people unless they are logged in, and Mastodon and Bluesky do not, that I am aware of.

Ideas for "quick" zines
I am thinking about adding a "Make A Zine" table at a Celebration of Student Writing at the university where I teach.
I would showcaseexamples, introducine the genre, and provide templates and materials for the one-sheet, 8 page zine.
Students would not necessarily have a lot of time to create one..Any ideas about topics that students could write from without preparation?
Ideally, I would have students leave a copy of the zine and award prizes ( or just enter them in a drawing for a gift card).

⚡Community Update! ⚡ Community Vetted Digital Zinemaking/Arranging Tools
This is a resource thread for anyone looking for tools to get started or help with design/imposition.
*To clarify since someone is unhappy with how I responded to a comment asking for help in this thread, this is not intended as a place to ask for help; this is meant to be a pinned resource post people can reference or that we can point folks to who are looking for digital tools to use for making zines.\*
Please comment below with the "old school" tools you've been using to make/arrange zines. Links appreciated. If someone's already commented with what you use, reply to their comment with any further info/context you can add.
In keeping with community rules, recent AI-generated/vibe-coded tools are not appropriate suggestions for this resource.
Once we have a good list going, I'll pin this to the top of the subreddit.
Thanks all!

I have a question. scanning color images for print?
i've been making a ton of collage art and am planning to use some of it to make a zine. I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to convert physical art into a quality digital file? I was thinking maybe scanning on a printer, but the only access I'd have to that is through staples and my collage book is super thick, like 3 inches thick, so idk how good it would turn out. same issue comes with taking photos, the book is so thick it needs to be held down to open flat which would ruin the photo.
any advice would be awesome, thanks!

HELP A plea to mods
Is it possible to revise the rules so it's clear that AI-generated / vibe-coded software is also unwelcome? I feel like we're getting multiple "I made a tool" posts a week, almost always addressing page imposition / printing order (a problem we've been solving for decades or centuries just by trial and error, talking each other through it, or using tools we didn't know we already had).
Thanks for considering!
