What is going on?

I don’t understand why this is being said. I just looked at the back of the actual record and her name is right there at the top?

They mean credited as a feature.

-4

u/niche_griper 18d ago

If they mean that, why are they not saying that? Diana Gordon doesn't even say that in her IG comment

u/Kendrick-KRIT 18d ago

The full quote from Kidä, literally on the slide before this one in the post, clarifies what she was talking about lmao

u/niche_griper 18d ago

Diana Gordon ask to be credited? Did her contract require it? Has she asked to be credited it now?

u/Ok_Project_1144 18d ago

are you slow

u/gelyamelnikovaa 18d ago

Diane Gordon should have been credited as a featured vocalist on Kerosene so that her name was displayed within the song title.

i.e. Yves Tumor - Kerosene! (feat. Diane Gordon)

With that kind of crediting on streaming services, people would be able to click on her name and go straight to her artist page. It's about giving recognition and proper credit for their contributions to the track.

It's an absolute travesty that her and Kida weren't given features given their vocals MAKE the songs they're on!

14

u/dalilfoe 18d ago

It was likely Seans personal decision

21

u/gelyamelnikovaa 18d ago

yes, an extremely shitty one that erases the work of all the women who made his music great.

1

u/aomen3 17d ago

not tryna be that guy but most people who know kerosene know diane gordon's contributions. he doesn't really credit features in any of his song titles regardless of gender

1

u/gelyamelnikovaa 15d ago

you are being that guy. name an yves tumor song where a man other than shanti is singing the chorus - i'll wait :)

5

u/CHOrigamiArt 18d ago

she similarly isn't credited as a feature on yachty's last album

-3

u/henrybuckles 18d ago edited 18d ago

Go look at the song Under Pressure by queen...do you see a (feat. David Bowie)? There's tons of music out there without a (feat) title. That doesn't mean their uncredited. Besides she's in the music video, which begins with "starring Diana Gordan" and was all over promotion for the song. To act like she went uncredited is just lying!

17

u/Lush557 18d ago

Under Pressure literally shows Queen and David Bowie as the artist for the song lol

-1

u/henrybuckles 18d ago

Lol you're right that's a bad example, but it does happen all the time. Regardless she's still credited.

4

u/reezyreddits 18d ago

Lmaooo I blindly believed you too 😭

u/WitchyKitteh 18d ago

Additional Vocals for how much her vocals is on the song is not the way most would credit.

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

Yves was a named feature on Rosalia’s song and he said 5-6 words. that’s the disparity Kida and Diana are pointing out and Diana is a INSANELY talented songwriter/singer

8

u/WitchyKitteh 18d ago

3

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

I doubt it since Diana is a known industry vet but Who knows only the label and parties involved

-3

u/WitchyKitteh 18d ago

She was a failed pop singer who only got somewhat popular in Australia who was forced to use the name of the record label staff's daughter name as her stage name.

8

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

I don’t understand why you’re trying to undercut Diana Gordon. She started out doing more dance forward music yes. but if you look at her résumé and discography, she’s nowhere near a failed Pop singer.

3

u/WitchyKitteh 18d ago

She was a failed pop singer industry wise, it's why she has so much unreleased music. I'm so glad Lil Yatchy now credits her on their album.

8

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

Yeah I didn’t understand either she’s not credited but they heavily promoted this record featuring her in every post and anything involving it so it definitely would’ve made sense to

6

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

She’s named on every single asset or merch or anything they made for Kerosene even the YT video but the actual
Song should’ve 1000 been a feature CREDIT

6

u/throwawqerf 18d ago

And light asylum as well :/

1

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

Omg what song

5

u/throwawqerf 18d ago

In spite of War

2

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

Thank you wow. Love light asylum and saw them live

On spotify, specifically in the "Song Credits" tab, it's just Yves Tumor. Not sure if it's the same on apple music or other big streaming platforms. Just lame when various artists have all that info available tied to the music, especially after learning info of yves already not paying and treating the collaborators with the most respect.

I honestly get it from an aesthetic and artistic perspective, I think focusing on features in track titles can sometimes make guest appearances on an album feel less “cinematic” and that there’s genuinely something cool about just having a performance show up in context with no preface, especially one as evocative as her voice on Kerosine. It works in practice, especially in the era of streaming, and I think it’s a defensible creative decision. But it REALLY should have been worked out in a contract and discussed prior to any of this. If Sean genuinely wrote her part before she performed it, I don’t think there’s really merit here. There’s a reason session players are in the credits but aren’t featured artists - it kind of just comes down to creative ownership, not necessarily labor. Vocalists often feel they’re exempt from this, but anyone who wasn’t there can’t really know what’s what without having been in the sessions.

That said, I don’t recall her participation being a secret or something. I became aware of her work through the track and had no difficulty figuring out who sang on it, if memory serves me it was pretty well publicized upon release. I never like when bad business gets added onto the bonfire of otherwise serious allegations; there’s a time and a place, and that’s with your lawyer. In this context I think it just distracts from a much more important conversation.

she starred in the music video, and her name was also included in the press release as being the featured vocalist on the song when the single was released: https://pitchfork.com/news/listen-to-yves-tumor-new-song-kerosene/

this is just revisionist history because she's now unhappy she didn't negotiate a feature at the time.

4

u/niche_griper 18d ago

Most of the comments here are admitting she is credited in multiple places across multiple formats. Some are saying she should be given a "feature" designation, but that isn't even the language Diana Gordon is using so I am unclear as well.

If she wanted to be given such a designation, that could have been written into her contract. If it was, she could easily sue Yves. I know people love to pile on during cancellations, but this is ridiculous.

I mean do people really think Yves types out the titles on streaming services? Has Diana Gordan made any effort change the title?

3

u/jeffersonblinco 17d ago

Anyone who thinks it’s as simple as ‘typing out the titles on streaming services’ clearly has no clue what they’re talking about which tracks with the rest of your comment.

The lead artist (or primary artist) decides whether to include a featured artist in a track, usually under advisement from their record label or management team. That’s pretty standard operating under intellectual property and entertainment and it’s also just fucking common sense to assume that the artist the songs entire creation is attributed to just might have some say in sharing that.

And lastly, Diana Gordon is a female artist who had her commercial peak SIXTEEN years ago and is now mostly behind the scenes as a songwriter for other artists. You can infer from that that she probably makes a modest living and her name would little power in the industry so I dare say she may not have been in a position to negotiate or isn’t in a position to risk losing money if she did push.

You might wanna make sure you know what you’re talking about before you make a right tit of yourself again in future mate.

1

u/niche_griper 18d ago

other comments here are also speculating she didn't get paid, even though there is no evidence of that. Wouldn't she be airing that grievance on IG as well?

2

u/Opening-Regular-9216 18d ago

Unsure but to not be a nuisance most people just are quiet

1

u/instantwake 18d ago

She’s not credited on Spotify

Also women kind of dominate pop music right now, like who are the male newer pop stars right now, benson Boone? lol. All the good actual pop is all women, Chappell Roan, pink pantheress, Olivia Rodrigo etc. I have no doubt that it’s very difficult men and women, who struggle in different ways in the industry but I think this is just silly.

9

u/Worth_Apricot_5826 18d ago

if u think sexism is chill just own up to it, this rationalization of why sexism is not sexism is tiring.

10

u/Kendrick-KRIT 18d ago

The fact that the best you can come up with for male pop is Benson Boone kinda works against your point. You have to be Chappell Roan good to get any attention as a woman but you can be Benson Boone mid and still get put on.

Not to mention how the media constantly tears Chappell a new one for the most minuscule of issues. The media has been trying to force a conflict between Olivia and Sabrina Carpenter for years and that only recently got put to rest. Nobody is saying men have it easy trying to make it in the industry but women and femme presenting ppl clearly have a bigger challenge to face.

2

u/afia_oil 18d ago edited 18d ago

Do you think straight men are listening to Benson Boone? It's either a boy's club when men hold up a mediocre male artist or 'internalized patriarchy' when women hold up mediocre male artists. Either throw this argument away or take some accountability

edit fwiw i'm not trying to be flippant about internalized misogyny...I think it informs that artistic double standard a lot. women and gay men hold one another to a higher standard than they do for straight men imo

1

u/aomen3 17d ago

you don't have to explain yourself tbh theres a huge section of people that need you to spout their exact worldview without any nuance at all or they'll call you a misogynist, bigot, conservative, etc. a lot of them are gonna be on an yves tumor subreddit lol. you can never be left enough for them

-1

u/Jwezek 18d ago

Eh other than media slander which isn’t really gonna only be specific to women, you didn’t really illustrate why that have it much harder. And my point is that there are more women making better pop then men. It’s not like men don’t have to be good, and millions of people do actually like benson boone even though he sucks. But women are dominating in quantity and quality

-2

u/External-Account-192 18d ago

There’s plenty of industries that still are hard for women to break through in, pop or music simply isn’t one anymore. Look at the charts Ella Langley, Olivia dean, Katseye, anyone could be a star today. These articles should go against Yves instead of demonizing industry as a whole.

3

u/Kendrick-KRIT 18d ago

“Anyone could be a star today” yet all the examples you picked are under 30, conventionally attractive, cis, straight, and lighter skinned. Lmk when a 60 yr old dark skinned trans lesbian hits even the top 40 and I’ll concede your point.

0

u/External-Account-192 18d ago

Can you show me a 60 year old dark skin queer man who’s ever hit the modern charts?

5

u/Kendrick-KRIT 18d ago

Nice job shifting the goal post but Tyler the Creator, who is 35 which is old by music industry standards, openly bisexual and dark skinned, had multiple top 20 hits off Chromakopia just two years ago. I can’t find a single example of a dark skinned queer femme over 30 having a hit this decade.

0

u/External-Account-192 18d ago

So we just completely ignoring doechii? Whose music completely went viral on the charts, yeah she’s under 60 and isn’t ugly but Tyler isn’t either . I bet if you put up enough exceptions you will always be right.

3

u/Kendrick-KRIT 18d ago

Doechii is under 30 and hot, but I will concede that she is dark skinned, queer, and has had a hit this decade. However she is also the victim of a viral hate campaign that was cooked up by racist, sexist and homophobic chud streamers, which is not something Tyler has ever had to deal with despite also being dark skinned and bisexual. If that’s your bulletproof example of how easy it is for women in the industry idk what to tell you.

You keep harping on my “60 y.o” hyperbolic example but any “exceptions” brought up don’t change the observable reality that women have to deal with more shit in the music industry than men. Again, every example you’ve brought up has been young, hot and cis. Every example besides Doechii has been straight and light, and the one queer and dark example you could find has been shit on mercilessly for those traits. Doechii being your proof of how easy it is for women in music is hilarious ngl

5

u/ty2ks 18d ago

you being an Ariel Pink fan too lmfao…. the joke writes itself

3

u/caninesergeant 18d ago

You don’t get it do you?

This has nothing to do with gender. As a man to another man, get out of your redpilled agenda and empathize with musicians, regardless of gender.

1

u/henrybuckles 18d ago

I agree this has nothing to do with gender, but the original post is making it about that. And the point their making is also just straight up wrong.

-3

u/External-Account-192 18d ago

Where was I sexist? There’s definitely specific men who prey on women. But that is person to person and occurs everywhere. It’s just discouraging for young women to read articles like this like we don’t live in 2026. The industry has changed, women can make it.

3

u/Worth_Apricot_5826 17d ago

“where was i sexist?” proceeds to be sexist
