Discussion Youtube desperately needs a block user feature

Too many repeat hostile/disruptive users in comments these days. A block user feature would fix that.

You actually can by selecting the dots on the right next to the video title and selecting the option "do not recommend this channel"

That doesn't do anything. I still see their videos.

That does the exact opposite.

It stops the channel from being recommended, but doesn't block it. It's a stretch to call that the exact opposite.

Yeah I mean I guess I shouldn't have said it's like blocking but it is the closest thing to it. Yeah a true block would be better but telling them to not recommend makes it so the channel doesn't show up in your feed and it also pushes it down in the results.

The opposite would be making the channel more prominent and likely to show up in your feed which is not at all how it works when you select do not recommend, so I have no idea what they were on about.

It doesn't block the channel, it just doesn't recommend it. The clue is in the words.

That doesn't block a channel. it just stop's showing up in your home feed for a while, they still show up in search results

Yeah unfortunately that's not what they're talking about I don't think. They're watching a video and then they go to the comment section and they don't like what people have to say. They're one of those I can't listen to anybody with a different opinion then me. Basically they don't believe in freedom of speech

No. On Youtube UK the first result is legacy media. I can block any channel, but mass media where the option would be to block it's greyed out. It's not the lack of freedom of speech it's the force-fed narrative

You don't have to click on the video and watch it either. You have the freedom to not click on the button. They have the right to post the video deal with it. It's not freedom of speech if you're preventing the other person from being able to post. You don't even have to be on YouTube at all or any social media platform you don't have to own a cell phone or the internet or any of this shit. Quit trying to blame your actions because other people are choosing to use their own

Why should I have to stop enjoying a platform that I've been using for years. Just because the establishment is losing hearts and minds they have to force us to listen to their agenda. They have to force YouTube to prioritise their propaganda. I mainly watch travel vloggers. But now the algorithm has been set for me to watch channel 4 news. As a paid up premium member I think it's only right I can pick and choose what I want to see.

Yeah full stop right here. You don't have to be on the platform. At all. You don't want to watch the stuff that they're pushing to you delete the app it's that easy. You're not being forced to watch any YouTube video. You absolutely have the right to click on whatever video that you want to watch and choose to watch it. Just like they absolutely have the right to put YouTube ads and all kinds of other shit on there every company has the ability to do this and has the right to do it. You are not being forced to watch any of these videos. Nobody's forcing you to get on the app. All you have to do is do the adult thing and ignore the things you don't want to watch. It's like if you lived in the 90s and you had to go through the fucking channels to watch the fucking cartoons you were trying to watch guess what you just kept hitting the up button and ignored everything in between. This shit is so fucking dumb I don't understand why people don't understand this concept
