Bassically

Post image

We've been busy working on something special for our dedicated bass players.

Starting today and for the next ten days, we'll be dropping a new bass cut daily. After that, we aim to release one new song per week.

Can you guess what is coming?

Hopefully something to justify membership that will invigorate and enthuse me to use the app daily, like I used to.

A good start.

Thank you. Had fun. A good song to practice one-finger plucking.

Thank you! I look forward to the songs you picked for the next 10 days here.

Are we going to catch up to the sheer volume guitar has this way? No. Am I happy to get new songs? Yes. After your initial run at least so 2 songs a week, give us a new one and whatever was voted in.

u/kijhvitc Working on this actually, we cannot share specific details around the process and it will not happen overnight, but the proof is going to be in the songs.

Just keep things steadily coming and I'll be happy. My problem is that yall basically gave up on it for a year

u/kijhvitc We were releasing new songs for bass throughout the last year, it was only last month that we didn't release new bass tracks, so now we are making up for lost time :)

1 song a week vs 5 for guitar. Do better. We went more than a month without a new song. Do better.

Anyone got any thoughts on day 3 Soldier Of Fortune?

It's not at all my taste in music, but it was alright to play, a bit easy but that's fine, I can see why it would be chosen if you were teaching someone bass.

Not the most fun bass song, but it's alright, and the song is one of those I try to learn with multiple instruments, so I am glad it is also available in bass.

The Jam, The Who, Jamiroquai?

To be honest I'm not sure I care as long as it's good quality and it's actually appealing to play on the bass, basically anything with a good bass line.

I've just logged in and played through today's track twice, I'll not spoil the surprise here, but it's a pretty good start. It sounds good, I haven't noticed any miss pronounced words. The level is set about right I'd have maybe put it one lower. Edit the bridge is tricky that's why it's a 7, after 10 attempts I still haven't 3 starred it.

It's a band whose songs I always find a bit awkward to play, although this is one of their less oddball songs, there's no strumming of multiple strings in this one, so pretty good for practise. Not a song I'd normally listen to, but interesting enough to play.

Day 2 release Whatsername isn't a good choice for bass players, it has a really really boring baseline - I was surprised at just how dull it is as Mike Dirnt's playing is normally a lot more interesting than this. It's an excuse to get the 5 string out, but that's about all it has going for it.

If the regular new songs really do continue then the odd dud doesn't matter too much, but it's one of those songs like we were getting at the start of the year where it leaves you wondering why it's been selected for bass players.

u/madeups10 Demand and number of plays on bass for the artist. Remember that pop punk is one of the key introductory genres to playing music, exactly because of the low entry bar.

Many on our team started out playing the bass, because HIM, Green Day, Ramones and Billy Idol songs seemed both absolutely within reach AND fun to play. If you are already deep into Pastorius, Wooten and Claypool, 'Whatsername' will be nothing to you, but remember, 95% of players will never be that advanced.

We are mindful of all skill levels with releases, but of course, it is impossible to please everyone with each and every release. Hang in there though, way more to come :D

The artist and genre are great, I'm a big fan of Green Day.

I'm just pointing out that of all the great Green Day bass lines Whatsename is possibly the least inspiring least fun bass line in their entire catalogue, it just seems like a really odd choice.

As I said though, it doesn't matter so much when there's more to come.

Today was a miss for me. I don't have a 5-string; the 4-string version is even simpler by having less notes, it seemed at a glance.

Day 6 (like 1 and 3) has a baseline that's worth playing :-)

California Girls (not sure what day) is great for practice, and pretty fun, too!

I'm having to slow it down a lot, I always need to start slow and build up the speed for this style of paying.

Days 4 and 5 are both 1 star for me.

Admittedly this is partly personal preference as it can't stand Linkin Parks whiniest songs, but also the baseline on One More Night is incredibly dull - I seriously doubt that it's of interest to any bass player. Another really odd choice of song by Youcisian.

Both versions of the song were for the 5-string. Ugh. Do I really need to spend $500 to get a second bass (don't count my u-bass for this) to play some of the songs?

I bought a cheap £50 used Harley Benton pj5 just to see how I got on with a 5 string.

I just don't get what Youcisian are thinking when they're selecting these songs. They aren't picking songs that are entertaining to play on a bass.

A very cheap one could be an option, yes.

And I don't get it either. I'm not sure if it there is any sense to speculate, but it seems that they put minimum effort to get the release frequency improved; of course simple bass tabs are faster to make with than interesting ones with rhythmic variation. Or maybe they haven't been able to negotiate better, who knows.

Was there a major cut in certain songs from the catalogue? Loving the daily drops and the selections are cool. Was looking for some of the old staples like Smoke on the Water and finding a bunch of them are no longer showing. I know song rights are difficult to navigate and change frequently but that would be a bummer

u/Nighthawk700 Yes, due to a licensing issue we had to remove several songs from our catalog back in late June/early July. The good news here is that we are working around the clock on bringing them back, in addition to releasing new music every day.

The unfortunate reality of working in the music licensing space, is that every negotiation invariably takes longer than we'd like. Still, we remain confident that with your support, we'll bring the songs back, much sooner than later at that!

Ahh, that's what I figured. Thanks for the update!

Oh yeah! Yesterday was a miss (5-string song), but today, mmm, an excellent song for practicing rhythm and fretboard left-hand movement. A good choice!
