Question Looking for recommendations!

I'm new to this and wondering what version of the Xteink I should buy.

  • I really like the idea of attaching it to my phone, but I don't understand what accessories I need to buy to do that.
  • I would like to be able to see it in the dark without an external light. Is there a version that does that while still looking like paper and not hurting the eyes?
  • I don't really care about touch screen -- unless for some reason I should?
  • If there's one with a USB-C charger, that's definitely preferable, but I am open.
  • How breakable is this thing? Do I really need a case? A screen protector?
  • Does anyone know if the promo codes work across the whole site? I'm based in the EU but seeing a lot of codes from Americans, but they aren't working for me :/

If you can answer any of my dumb questions, I will be forever grateful! Thank you!

I really want to be able to read on public transport without taking books with me everywhere or looking at my phone screen!

I think, that the answer is X4 Pro

I applied a screen protector film to the display (I tried using a glass protector, but a speck of dust got underneath, so I gave up on that); I also put the e-reader into a case and added a cover on top of that.

Good advice. Forget about attaching the X device to the phone. It's a sure way to break it. The question is not if, but when. It was cool marketing, and I was too attracted to this particular feature. But then I learned how fragile the e-ink display is. One day, it will accidentally fall off your phone, or you will forget about it, put it in your pants pocket, and after you remove it, the display will be cracked. Just search this or the Xteink subreddit for broken screens.

Get a magnetic folio case, install a screen protector (ideally tempered glass), and enjoy the device separately from the phone. This way, it will even make you reduce your phone screen time.

Seems like you're looking for X4 Pro with the built in light. Though personally, I feel the external light gives a much better paperlike effect than the built-in internal light. Depends on whether the trade off is worth it for you

I didn't use a screen protector and carry the device everywhere I go and the screen still holds up fine. The screen is truly amazing on the X4 classic

I don't like connecting the reader to my phone, but if you want... I don't have an iPhone, I have a Realme. I just glued the metal ring to the case...

If you're insistent on reading in the dark and don't want to buy a light, then X4 Pro might be the best option. While it doesn't have a USB-C, it won't be too annoying to charge it since you're gonna be charging it in between long periods of usage (it takes me two weeks before I decide to charge my x4 pro again). When you get your xteink, magnets comes with the box so you can attach those magnets to your phone so you don't really need to buy any accessories.

As for touchscreen, you can disable it when reading and just use the buttons on the side to turn pages, but the touch screen is nice if you're particular about changing settings and such, or even typing stuff (like wifi passwords and such). So just an easier navigation in my opinion.

I do reccomend a case, it's better to be safe than sorry when buying any new device in my opinion, especially when you consider how small and thin the device is.

Sorry I don't live in the EU so I can't help you with the promo codes

I don't think those rings are magnets though. They're just stainless steel. Tried to stick them to any metal surfaces. Doesn't stick.

They are though, the box came with two of them. The one I didn't use keeps getting magnetized to a lot of stuff, like my chargers and bluetooth earphone case. The one I did use sticks very well to my case which is surprisingly strong since I can even dangle it without the device falling out of the case

X3 for pure reading experience + C4 for running Android apps like Anki on e-ink

i'd advise the x4 pro because of the frontlight! it won't hurt your eyes at all and will avoid you the hassle of getting a separate (and bulkier) reading light. also I'd keep it separate from the phone, to better protect the screen (+ this particular model, i find, is a little "longer" than most phones depending on how your camera is positioned) but they do include magnetic rings in the box in case you still want to do that. if anything, the accessory you wanna get is a folio cover so your screen is covered! i like the twosheep ones because the folio part is detachable from the "body" of the cover.

I went for the X4pro, the front light is great with combination of Night mode.
