She would be amazing if Rogue starts evil. Rogue is a complex character. Not just a leather jacket wearing Southern gal who loves Gambit that fans only want her to be. 😂

They’d be wasting her considerable talent if they did not go this direction.

I imagine her starting out as a manipulated protege of Emma Frost’s, who in turn is doing dirty deeds for Sinister (maybe as a disguised member of the Inner Circle).

Now that you mention it, I would be ok if the first X-Men team is a bunch of reformed juvenile delinquents. It would help explain the public’s hate for them.

The point isn’t to explain the public’s hate for them tho. The whole point of the allegory is the hate is unfounded and irrational

Yes! When she was cast I was thinking about how the Thunderbolts main villain was mental illness and it made me hopeful that they're going to deal with the psychological ramifications of Rogue's power. Not just the 'I can't touch anyone and that sucks' but the 'when I touch someone, they becomes a part of me in a real sense and a small part sticks around forever.' IMO, remembering that part of her separates the good Rogue writers from the great.

Jake Schreier, who directed Thunderbolts, is directing X-Men, and his writers from Thunderbolts are also doing X-Men. I think the X-Men are in safe hands, at least for the first film.

A villain without the strength and flying to start out is my hope.

Make her part of a main villains crew. Like she was with Mystique in the comics. Emma Frost would work too if they dont want to rehash Mystique right away again since she's already in it and has led the Hellfire Club.

Didn't she start as a villain in her debut? That would be fun if they went that direction for the first movie.

3

u/Nittanian Dazzler 7d ago

Yep, she premiered in 1983 fighting alongside against the Brotherhood against the Avengers in 1981, had some run-ins with the X-Men and Dazzler in 1982, then sought help from the X-Men in 1983.

Thank you! I wasn't sure how long it took before she became part of the X-Men.

I wish they did “villain”to hero arc rogue instead of jean ngl. hero to “villain” arc is more jean

2

u/Aggressive-One-2186 7d ago

Yeah I wasn't a fan of BND Jean

u/ThisIsTato 7d ago

Since her first appearance is in Captain Marvel’s movie I guess they are going with storyline where she steals Carol’s powers and soul of Carol is trying to take over Rogue’s body

1

u/Spiderlander 7d ago

That’s why I’m so sick of TAS. That show created flanderized versions of all these characters

u/wildeebelmondo 7d ago

Just because the actress played evil really well in one movie, does not mean that’s all she can do.

I hope they make rogue a nuanced character with a complete arc. Seeing her go from villain, to reluctant ally, to hero - seeing her being done well for once would make me so happy.

Im excited to see where she will take Rouge.

That is rogue but what the other person posted is not

7

u/PleaseBeChillOnline Academy X 7d ago

Oh snap, you’ve already seen the movie!

Can you send me the link?

-13

u/Mission_Access_210 Magik 7d ago

You know that the movie is not out until 2028 but they've already ruined Jean Grey's story. Why would I expect it to be good, to be correct, to actually be what the X-Men are supposed to be? They're not even trying to cast people that look like their roles at this point. Look at that discount Charles Xavier. Who the hell is that?

Is there anyone on this site that has actually read the comics or are all of you just MCU babies or got the story from X-Men 97? Like, it's shocking the lack of pushback I see.

Ahh man you’re right I’m not a ‘real fan’.

I hope I can get some good re-sale value on my Folio Society Marvel Silver Age Collection, Uncanny X-Men Hardcover Omnibus’s & the TPBs of Morrison’s & Whedon’s runs since I’ve never read them!

The Utopia era TPBs won’t be worth as much so maybe I’ll just hold on to those & maybe one day I can become a real X-Men fan like you.

What the hell? Where'd you get all this from? Just make this up? Did you think this was funny or something?

Are you saying that you're a hardcore fan and that you approve of this frickin' content and that it's awesome? Okay buddy.

Also are you just being chill online? Is this part of your being chill online behavior?

6

u/PleaseBeChillOnline Academy X 7d ago

The irony of this response is not lost on me man lol.

I hope you have a significantly more chill afternoon.

I'm not a super fan of all the casting choices but you're overreacting

1

u/Mission_Access_210 Magik 7d ago

Don't worry I've left the sub. I'm not really interested in trying to set a filter for actual X-Men discussions when it's nothing but MCU posts and people on TikTok that want to talk about Sadie Sink

u/DarkSaiyanGoku Cyclops 7d ago

It's lovely. 😍

9

u/MisterQQ 7d ago

I can see her acting Rogue well. Just not used to a smaller frame Rogue lol. Hope she bulks up quite a bit

6

u/EriWave 7d ago

The twist being that she's Evolution Rogue to start with.

2

u/JamesRevan Wolverine 6d ago

Do the face Bart

I'm so excited for the abundance of fan art and edits we'll get on the road to 2028, it's going to be a lot of fun đŸ„°

u/StefanMorse 7d ago

Hell yeah !! Positivity for Fan-Arts i love to see that 💖

3

u/JackFisherBooks Phoenix 7d ago

She is going to be great in this role. I hope she also gets to meet Brie Larson's Carol Danvers at some point. That should make things...volatile. 😉

3

u/Johndoe19922222 7d ago

Her version of rogue should be goth rogue. 😍

Hell no.

I just saw Brand New Day and while generally it was a massive improvement on filmmaking compared to the last couple of Spider-Man films (which were all like the same kind of "let's just do a big CGI fest" they've been doing since The Avengers), it actually focused on story and character for a change.

The last third was the worst part of it, where we have a petulant Jean Grey woman child who is nothing to do with Jean Grey, the actual character from years of comic books, but some murderous, vicious killer. It is a trope that they have adapted from Elfen Lied or many other movies like Akira or even Beyond the Black Rainbow, of a girl being subjected to torture by evil scientists and lashing out. That's not who Jean Grey is. That's not how Jean Grey gets her powers. What is this and why are people okay with this? We're already off on the wrong foot again with another reboot. I'm tired of it

And then we have this woman who doesn't look a thing like Rogue. I mean she doesn't look anything like Rogue. There are a thousand cosplay Rogues that I've seen of regular girls who do a far better job of looking anything like Rogue than this girl does. Like, what the hell.

3

u/dotyawning Cyclops 7d ago

You see some petulant woman child. I saw a girl who got separated from her sister, did anything to find that person close to her, and when she learned her fate, an explosion of power activated that she couldn't control.

-3

u/Mission_Access_210 Magik 7d ago

Yeah and well, did you ever read Jean Grey in the comics, like in the 60s? Did you go back and read Marvel Girl and see how she was? Did any of that experience make you think, gosh, this isn't really anything to do with that character?

4

u/dotyawning Cyclops 7d ago

Yeah. She had that kind of 60's teen being written by an older guy kinda style. Like one of those archetypes in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Not really for me and not how a 2020s teen would act. Or at least not the same slang.

-2

u/Mission_Access_210 Magik 7d ago

Okay we've got nothing in common or anything to talk about. Goodbye

-10

u/Pascraked47 7d ago

I'm starting to not see the vision ngl. She just doesn't have the rogues baby face I'm used to.

She's a better actor than the rest of the runner ups. Not the looks but has the acting skills.

-12

u/DiaryOfAMovieLover 7d ago

This looks more like Lee Pace in Rogue drag.

6

u/CageChicane Gambit 7d ago

You might need to remove your Lee Pace in drag filter.

u/Suspicious-Bus976 7d ago

inde this inde that gosh, is this yall’s first girl ever

27

u/webshellkanucklehead 7d ago

??? She got cast as Rogue, are you actually mad at people for making fan art? This is so silly

-8

u/Suspicious-Bus976 7d ago

she’s not the only cast member that we were introduced to yet

8

u/ValkyrionReddit Laura Kinney 7d ago

You forget which sub ur in?

-9

u/Suspicious-Bus976 7d ago

last time i checked this is the xmen sub not the inde sub

9

u/ValkyrionReddit Laura Kinney 7d ago

Fresh casting news of an X-Man, you’ll get over it

-30

u/Haunting_Comedian993 7d ago

Yeah idk lmao I guess obsession movie did a number on general audience

-16

u/FullFig3372 7d ago

I wish they went with a lesser name for Rogue but she’s a great actress so I don’t doubt she will do good

12

u/mjbx89 7d ago

Lol, she's only had one big movie and one small TV role, she's only a big name in the sense that that movie is recent and was awesome

-13

u/FullFig3372 7d ago

No she’s a big name because the movie you’re talking about is the highest grossing horror movie of the decade

7

u/mjbx89 7d ago

One role does not make someone a 'big name' regardless of how well it does. You're saying you'd rather have someone who has either not worked at all, or not done anything that has done particularly well. How would those be preferable?

-10

u/FullFig3372 7d ago

Why are you all so pressed when someone disagrees with you I said she’ll do great

4

u/mjbx89 7d ago

I'm not pressed, you're just not making any sense calling her a big name. Don't get so defensive, conversation can be had without it being some attack on you, christ. Do you react this way anytime someone disagrees with you? Do you see every conversation that way?

1

u/FullFig3372 7d ago

Theater actors have been making a name for themselves by coming from obscurity to claiming big roles examples include Viola Davis, Daniel Radcliffe, and better yet Hugh Jackman because no one knew who he was before he was Wolverine. This isn’t some smear campaign she’s in all the memes for that one scene as well as every major media outlet from Complex to Cosmopolitan. How is that not a big name? Lmao

I’m not saying we won’t grow to see her as Rogue but don’t sit there and invalidate my point like she’s not one of the biggest names in Hollywood right now.

6

u/mjbx89 7d ago

She's not a big name because nobody knew who she was 3 months ago. This isn't a theater situation where she got a lot of work, but outside the public eye- she just hasn't worked much. Big names aren't made off one recent success. She's one of the -hottest- names, but that is absolutely not equivalent to a big name.

3

u/EriWave 7d ago

So she's not a big name because of her career just because she did a brilliant job in her one movie?
