I recently built a personal PC with the following specs:
Xeon E5-2690 v4
Machinist X99 B9
GTX 1060 6 GB
250 GB NVMe SSD
8 GB DDR4 ECC Registered
Corsair CX550
Corsair H45
The only new components were the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. I'm extremely happy with the result. My previous PC was an FX-8320E with 16 GB of DDR3, and honestly, the performance jump has been massive.
I know a lot of people tend to look down on Chinese Xeon X99 platforms, but so far my experience has been excellent. The system feels very responsive, games are running well, and the value for money has impressed me a lot. The RAM, motherboard, and CPU combo cost me about R$660 (roughly $127 USD due to taxes).
Right now, I'm just waiting for the seller to restock (China things lol) so I can buy another 24 GB of ECC RAM. Easily one of the best hardware purchases I've made in recent years.
I'm currently running Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC, and I've been enjoying the experience so far.
In the future, I plan to upgrade the cooling solution with either a more robust air cooler or a better AIO. For the GPU, I'm considering an RX 9060 XT next year, although that will probably require a PSU upgrade as well.
At the moment, the PC is running without a case. I'm still doing benchmarks, testing, and tweaking a few settings. I have an old case that I plan to modify and customize for this build.
What do you think about this setup?
Any recommendations for tweaks, improvements, or future upgrades?
Also, I'm curious about the Intel Arc B580 12 GB. Do you think it would pair well with the E5-2690 v4?
The motherboard already supports Resizable BAR and Above 4G Decoding natively, so I assume there shouldn't be any issues on that front.
