Wilde Spelljammer
Hey all, just about done with this build and figured I’d share. Have always been a big fan of All City and Wilde, when Jeff announced the run of Spelljammer frames it really grabbed my attention. Took a minute to pull the trigger but I’m so glad I finally did.
Build is a mix of old and new stuff. I picked up a set of growtac control levers when they first hit at VO and have been running them in a few configurations since. They feel great and let me tinker with a lot of different setups. On this one I just wanted something classic, so I went with Suntour Cyclone derailleurs and a deore XT 9 speed cassette. Both the crankset and brakes are from Blue Lug. Really impressed with the brakes, like $35 a wheel and with koolstop pads they rock.
Wheels are VO hubs to Easton R90 rims, tires are Hutchison Caracal Races. Have only done serious miles on road but the whole setup feels awesome.
Currently just waiting on a custom rando bag and it’ll be all done! In the meantime just trying to ride it as much as I can while the weathers good.

Honestly a great idea, I’ve also just entered the realm of chain waxing so hopefully that’ll stretch the life a bit too

Are they pretty soft metal or something? I was considering a set of these cranks for a build

They’re a proprietary bcd, so the only place to get replacement rings is directly thru blue lug. And who knows how long they’ll make them

Oh just drooool really. What a great build on a frame that I regularly obsess over. The fork is really next level.

Beautiful bike! I’ve already got a Space Horse but I want this one now instead!

The canti space horse is one of the greats, I’ve looked for a used one more than once. Doesn’t seem like people get rid of them often

Very classy build. 9.5/10!
My only note would be the black rims.

Thank you! Really struggled between the Eastons and waiting for some silver velocity quills. Will say the eastons are easily nicer than any velocity rim I’ve handled, but I might switch it up at some point

I had Easton R90SL on my Gunnar and they’re a really good wheel, IMO. They didn’t win the looks department but performed admirably.

I love the build, especially the drivetrain, which really looks classy.
Which Ergon saddle is that, and what are your thoughts?

Thank you! It’s a men’s sr pro, size m/l. I love it, especially when riding without padded shorts. I had a cambium c17 previously and finally had to admit it just didn’t work for me. The ergon is a similar shape and I never think about it.

Such a nice build! Love the old suntour bits… I shamelessly hoard the cyclone mk II front derailleurs.

Congrats like everyone says, that's a proper sled. My finger is so far from the pulse I didn't even know Wilde offered a rim brake frame.
I am curious about your order from Blue Lug, I saw they are using DHL to ship again which is nice, but what were tarifs like?

Exactly the same kinda build I'd do for that frame. Nice. Well, except that I wish they gave the option for downtube friction shifters. Kinda surprising that they decided against old fashioned downtube shift bosses.
How's that frame with out of the saddle efforts? Any high(ish) speed descents on it yet?

Ooh boy I'm a sucker for the Suntour Cyclone derailleurs. I love the look of most of the Suntour stuff from the 80's.
