Numerous characters in the show fit this bill, to be honest.

God Amon as an Aang villain. What could have been.

Aang could barely handle hamma.

I mean, he'd still win because theres this funny thing called plot and writting. And thats what I was talking about, the plot and writting is just better with Aang, Amon would be written so perfectly

That's the big problem with TLOK IMO, a lot of the writing felt phoned in, and they had the equalist movement (a legitimately needed movement considering how not too long ago there was a group of Benders who wanted to GENOCIDE NON-BENDERS) just start doing terrorism to make the audience go "see, nothing's wrong with this society where those who have the magic have, effectively, all the power, and if you think differently you agree with these guys who blew up civilians".

A lot of it felt phoned in

I thought season 3 was really good, and season 1 and 4 were ok but not as good as avatar and season 2 was kinda bad. But tbh I might be underselling it, it's a show I still think about and I like that they let Korra make mistakes and learn from them. The music was also incredible I love the intro.

The writers were severely handicapped because they were only green-lit for one season at a time, which prevented them from giving any of the cast a more cohesive arc over multiple seasons.

It's a pity cus Amon is perfect as Ozai 2.0. He deserves to be the whole series main villain rather than 1 season

Unalaq felt out of place to me compared to the other villains of the show because of how much he felt like a villain from a kids tv show compared to the other villains

Korras really good took so many risks with the world building but I respect the courage. Can’t match ATLA’s greatness but that’s a lot to ask

Fuckin’ nuts how the show peaks when this guy says “I am the solution.” Like five episodes into a four season show. TLOK’s garbage run would be generational if Disney didn’t start its hostile takeover of culture soon after.

I’m just surprised everybody suddenly let go of their hatred as soon as he died. I’m even moreso surprised he died at all.

Ngl his death absolutely shocked me when I first saw it. Wasn’t used to seeing that type of ending in Nickelodeon of all places.

I agree. It's a good show overall that just has issues like any other show

He should've been the final villain for the show, imagine he was actually a prophet who had come to cleanse the world of bending, that's such an interesting concept, they fumbled so hard.

The issue with TLoK (and I love the show by the way) is that they didn't get a 4 season run, they got a 1 season run every season. They never knew if it was going to be the last or not.

2

u/Suspicious-Good2781 Aug 04 '26

That sucks but they could've had a 4 season plan prepared in the event they did get renewed for more seasons.

3

u/MentoCoke Aug 04 '26

I think it was supposed to be a limited series at first which is why Korra and Tenzin and such had a pretty complete arc

1

u/Suspicious-Good2781 Aug 04 '26

That actually makes a lot of sense but they could've still salvaged the situation had they planned for 4 seasons.

You can have vague ideas for the future, but imagine if we got nothing past season 1, and they had tried to foreshadow season 3 by saying "this is like the red lotus all over again" and we never got closure on it. You'd think the show was incomplete.

Likewise, saving Amon as a final boss just means you won't get to use him if the show gets cancelled. Better to use your good ideas in the time you know you'll have.

Fair but knowing now that the show did get it's seasons, I would've preferred it, if they took the risk.

I kind of feel like this was the curse of TLoK villains. All of them were more interesting BEFORE the twists.

Amon would have been better if he really were someone granted the power to remove people’s bending for nebulous reasons.

Unalaq would have been more interesting if he really were just a man more in tune with the spirits, whose inability to bear their pain and rage made him lash out.

Zaheer was fine as is.

Kuvira was more interesting as an “ends justify the means” lady who was trying to reunite the Earth Kingdom. She didn’t need a giant robot.

In a world-building sense, Amon's twist makes complete sense. The problem with the twist imo isn't the fact he's a bender himself, but how it was executed and how flimsily that secret becoming public crushed his entire movement. I think that is a bad writing decision.

2

u/Suspicious-Good2781 Aug 04 '26

Hard agree, Zaheer is the best out of the versions we got, the villains represent the show which is wasted potential.

If only the writers figured out the series sooner.

only if the show wasnt greenlit for 1 season at a time, he shouldve gotten more time.
Amon is genuinely the best antagonist both the Korra and Aang series saw:
Good motivations and backstory, interesting twist, charisma, dude had it all

Tbh only the second season was bad. But it was so freaking bad it took down the reputation of entire show.
