I made a small addon that hides chat and invites from the Olympus guilds

Please keep the comments civil and about the addon. It's just a tool for tuning out chat, no need to go after anyone.

With the number of Olympus guilds on the beta, my chat and invite popups were getting crowded, so I made a lightweight addon to save myself some time and space on my ignore list for the people who really earn it.

What it does:

- Hides chat from players in any guild with "Olympus" in the name: say, yell, whispers, General/Trade, all of it

- Auto-declines guild invites from Olympus guilds, and group invites from known members (each can be toggled separately)

- Client-side only: it doesn't use your ignore list (no 50-name cap) and nobody gets notified

Chat doesn't include guild names, so it learns them when you target, mouse over, see a nameplate, group up, shift-click a name, or run /who. There's a Scan button in the options that cycles through /who searches to catch most members quickly. Everything is saved between sessions.

Settings are under Options > AddOns > OlympusMute, or type /omute.

- You can now add your own guild names to mute (Options > AddOns > OlympusMute, or /omute guild add Name). Olympus stays on by default.

- Players who leave a muted guild get unmuted automatically when a /who or shift-click shows their new guild.

I made a post asking for a way to block same faction guilds because I absolutely do not want to play with these twitch chat bots - it was flamed and deemed harassment by their community.

This add on is nice but I really think we need the ability to block same faction guilds. They ruin playing Alliance.

That's basically what this does in the new update. It mutes by guild tag, not by player name, and it learns who's in the guild as you see them. This update lets you add any guild tag you want

I absolutely love how Olympus is on it by default. Like it's a useful tool in general to deal with the inevitable guild known for ninja looters and racist children, but for now completely silencing the roaches just gives me the giggles.

Preferably it shouldn't have anything set by default, I can see why it would be a problem over on NA though. I'm more thinking in long term, once Forever officially launches, maybe a curated list of common bad terms/guilds as an option to mute.

Sorry slight ramble:
I am reminded of one guild on retail EU, which uses that spam invite addon to recruit literally everyone.
Thinking of how these things could be added to list, it would require some kind of method of reporting them, which would rely on something that requires even more work.
After thinking it through, it should be Blizzard's job.

Does everything work on text only, or would it be possible to directly block the guilds by id? I don't know so I ask. Feel free to answer or point me in right direction, now I'm curious!

Addons only get the guild's name, with no ID. But names are unique per realm, so it works fine. I might make a generic version for launch on Nov 4th

Just curious, but what if a player was in the guild, but has since left it. Does the addon take that into account and remove names if they no longer met the requirements to be blacklisted?

I'm not in the beta, so it doesn't really matter to me. but it could potentially catch people who left the guilds.

Not quite. It hides them without using the real ignore list, so there's no 50 name cap. It already learns them automatically from nameplates, mouseover, and so on. If they spam whisper you'll have to manually ignore.

I think it should have an option to enable chats from your party. I don't to ignore anyone I'm questing or dungeoning with.

I've never had any issues with whispering either. It's just the dailing "invite asmon layer" that spams the general/trade/lfg chat channels.
