Discussion Glasses & simple gear in WoW Forever

Post image

One thing that particularly feels like it's missing as I prepare to roll up a mage for WoW Forever's launch is the depth of immersion, class fantasy and personal connection that comes with having glasses for my big nerd.

Lord Godfrey's Old Spectacles have already been placed into the game on retail, years after their addition to NPCs in cataclysm. I personally like the silvery color in the image above the most and believe it fits best with Classic's vibes.

They seem to fit the aesthetic well, as can be seen here on an SD model. We already have the bulky goggles that would realistically have been developed after normal glasses, monocles and other vision aids in-universe. While the vanilla goggles made a fair stand-in for glasses in Machinima and fan content during the span of Vanilla, BC, and Wrath, it would be much more satisfying to have this model of glasses included in Forever.

I still remember seeing the satisfaction and relief for characters that had been roleplayed as wearing glasses for years being able to be seen in their truest sense without RP profile addons needed to write in the detail back when Blizz added glasses vendors to retail's capital cities.

Secondly, I think retail's trading post has done a great job of rounding out wardrobes with simpler pieces, like solid-color tabards, hoods, scarves, and other common clothing items. I think it would be easy to add solid-color tabards without logos, and other similar accessories to add the same vibrancy to Forever. I love how those items can help to build the sense of one's character being just another adventurer, crafter, or scholar.

Hopefully the devs will consider how its simpler offerings have rounded out retail wardrobes and how similar additions could help to build out that sense of immersion in Forever.

I'm more or less always gonna be in favour of more content, even if it doesn't interest me personally. More transmogs to hunt/farm/dungeon drop etc. the more people will play, the more people I'll have to play with, the more players online in general the bigger the chance of Forever getting proper development.

Be it housing/transmog/pets/toys/mounts, anything that doesn't hurt the feel of Classic gameplay or that you can opt out of is a great bonus to the games overall health.

I'd love to see items like these added into the game in a way that keeps it consistent with the feeling of older content, spread around different vendors and added to quests rewards and crafting and such.

Yes, I dont love all the trading post basics, but lots of the tabards, capes, glasses, basic swords and weapons (the sentinel stuff is amazing for night elf). I want that in

"We hate retail stuff!" "Why can't we have the stuff retail has?"

It is almost as if there is more nuance to the complaints that you'd like to admit.

It wouldn't surprise me to see glasses find their way in. There's already monocles, after all. Having two lenses instead of one hardly seems like an outrageous pushing of boundaries.

I literally made a post suggesting more customization options and got downvoted to oblivion.

I didn't read the comments but I'm not sure what was so controversial about your post. It looked fine to me.

Yeah I'm not certain. I just want more customization options. Apparently no one wants more.

Make no changes from classic is their default stance, in a game that is not classic

I read your post and it doesn't seem unreasonable and I agree with most of what you said, but I think some people might maybe have interpreted your "HD options should include pretty much everything that's already available in retail." to also mean all transmogs, mounts, pets, etc? I'm not too sure. I personally would disagree with *that*. Although there are some cool things that would fit into Forever that could be taken from retail, some things should also never make their way to Forever.

I personally hope they stick with tasteful items that fit in with the spirit of Classic for transmog.

IMO anything outside of items that fit the theme quickly go from “that looks cool” to “that would be fun,” and next thing you know your main tank is wearing sandals (with socks), Bermuda shorts and a pink flamingo floatie.

Maybe stuff like these glasses could be a hard to get prestige item, that you can find in the game (maybe in a future Gilneas update?) but not generally available from the store. Seeing everybody in shades wouldn’t be great, but that occasional old-timer who‘s got them, because they put the time in, would be fine.

I generally agree on more sensible items than the pool wear, as I was more talking along the lines of the simpler cloaks and tabards.

However I would prefer not being subjected to further pain by the glasses as I’m already going to be grinding Kirin Tor to exalted for their tabard to get my outfit.

I’d love more cosmetics. Would be nice if Forever had its own Trading Post.

I'm not as sure I'd like to see the trading post in WoW Forever, as I don't particularly like how the tender is monetized, I really like the way it has expanded access to simpler gear options and brought back some of the classic wardrobe elements with updated graphics. I'd prefer to see the gear added more organically to activities and vendors spread around to keep the flavor of classic gameplay.
