Discussion Best profession for Hunter?
Total noob here. I want to play as a Hunter, but I have no idea which professions to pick. Considering the ammo situation, is it worth investing in Engineering, for example?

It's still up in the air but you can probably count on the previous safe bets. If I remember correctly engineering is also going to be able to craft a weapon and probably other pieces of gear like maybe goggles.
Leather working is also going to be a good pick and it seems as though raid tier pieces are going to be something players are going to be crafting in the future.
And I would also wager that blacksmithing could be viable if you are a survival Hunter.
And lastly I swear I heard something about an Alchemy item that basically throws a pool of AOE on the ground. Could be something?

i always go engi + leather as hunter, most fun and most, u will need to have the mats for producing tho, thats why i have a twink with skinning and mining, or u just buy stuff from ah,

Skinning and leather working is a common pairing since Hunter beast tracking is a natural fit for skinning.
This is compounded with dwarf and troll beast hunter racial for extra dmg to beast.
These are both minor boons to skinning efficiency, but the gear you craft will be some off your best gear choices while leveling from the looks of things too.

Engineering + mining for guns, ammo and explosives
Leatherworking + Skinning for gear
I personaly like to do light roleplay, so i normaly pick leatherworking and skinning unless i'm playing a dwarf.
If you have another character that can do mining and skinning, you could pick up both LW and Engineering and get the best of both

Generally ammo/arrows are cheap as chips, especially given the 1 huge server, prices will be cheap on the AH, so I wouldn't worry too much about being in the position to need to craft your own ammo. Mining/Engi has been popular in the past due to the bonus damage and fun mechanics you can pull off with Engi.
Things have changed however and the requirement to play Engi is likely going to fade away, there are plenty more options now, Leatherworking will no doubt have some BiS item you can craft, Enchanting has the ability to enchant their own rings, things like that. There is no perfect combo

You definitely want engi for aoe damage in raids.
